CynthiaParticipantReport: Bobcats to interview Ewing for head coach position
Posted May 16 2012 7:13PMCHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Two people familiar with the situation say the Bobcats will interview Orlando assistant Patrick Ewing on Thursday in Charlotte for their vacant head coaching position.
The people say Charlotte will interview Memphis assistant Dave Joerger on Friday. The people spoke to The Associated Press Wednesday on condition of anonymity because the team hasn’t publicly announced its list of candidates.
Bobcats owner Michael Jordan is friends with Ewing, but is not expected to sit in on the interview. General manager Rich Cho and president of basketball operations Rod Higgins have handled interviews so far.
Charlotte has interviewed assistant coaches Michael Malone from Golden State, Cleveland’s Nate Tibbetts, St. John’s Mike Dunlap and expressed interest in Indiana’s Brian Shaw.

I know this has been discussed before, but here’s the official. Also shows who they’ve already interviewed and who’s still to come.
Personally I found it surprising Michael Jordan hasn’t been in on the interviews, nor is expected to be apart of Ewings. However given his track record maybe it’s best he let’s others handle it.

SpacegrassParticipantHell Yeah! Charlotte can’t get any worse , so good luck Pat.

JoeWolf1I think Ewing would be a good choice. He paid his dues as an assistant, was cruicial in the development of Dwight Howard and I think he deserves a shot.
That being said, I don’t know that he’d be a better choice than Brian Shaw. I’m a big Phil Jackson fan and Shaw is not only a more veteran assistant coach, but one who’s been on a staff that won titles, and worked under one of the best coaches in history.
I think Ewing is due, but I think Shaw would be a better choice.

UNCbasketballbumParticipantyeah, Brian Shaw really has paid his dues under Phil and deserves a head-coaching position. I think he would be a really good hire for Charlotte. You know how Jordan is in keeping his hires within his "inner circle" of friends though. I would expect Ewing to get the Bobcats head coaching job.

JunkYardDogParticipantI think jordan should stop hiring his friends all the time… it doesn’t work.
We could really see one day jud buechler as a bobcats cheerlader !

ILoveBismackBiyomboParticipantThat’s what the Bobcats need…….a self-entitled former star who has the IQ of a potato and would rather spend most of his nights at a stripclub (Ewing was epic in that department, even by NBA standards).
This seems like a good fit for the Bobcats.

kngojcParticipantAssuming they get the top pick and the prize of Anthony Davis, this could be a great hire though. Like Joe said, Ewing taught Howard to be effective in the offensive post. Lets name two guys on their roster potentially that are great on defense and not so much on offense. Hmm, Biyombo, Davis, Tyrus Thomas. Ewing would be an upgrade in helping those guys make huge developments over the summer.

HitsterParticipantBrian Shaw is an interesting choice and must be one of the very best Assistant Coaches not to have yet been an NBA Head Coach. He served his dues at the Lakers and has contributed to the Pacers success this year but with Coach Vogel going nowhere he could well have to look elsewhere for a number one job.
I’d be happy with either Shaw or Ewing for the Bobcats and whilst Harold Rambis another of Phil Jackson’s assistants didn’t work out for the T-Wolves, I wonder if the Jackson connection might appeal to MJ.
