reed4185ParticipantWhat does everyone think of him? If he enters the draft early where would he be drafted?

terrancebowerParticipantI’m pretty high on Portis. He’s got good size and had a fantastic freshman season (12.3ppg, 6.8rpg, 51%). These numbers would be better but I think it took him a little bit of time to get comfortable this year and see consistent playing time (only played 27 mpg).
He’s shown that he has a decent jumper. He’s not a stretch 4 at this point but I would say he has potential to be a good mid range shooter and knock down the odd baseline three (FT 73%, solid mechanics). He looks long as well, and was able to protect the rim a bit. I’m just guessing, but I think if a team doesn’t need an immediate impact, or has several 1st rounders and can therefore keep one on the shelf for a bit, he could go in the 20s to a team looking for a project big man with potential. If not, a high second rounder.
Having said that, I think he benefits greatly by returning as a sophomore and hopefully turns into a 1st round lock for next year. I think with him having a nice year, and Qualls emerging this year, they should be able to make a bit more noise next year and maybe Portis doesn’t fly under the radar so much.
