CameronCrazy11ParticipantWatching the Pacers-Bulls game right now and very impressed by Bobby Portis’s overall play. I’ve been a fan of his since his Arkansas days and thought the Bulls got an absolute steal when he fell to them. I could see him developing into a high level role player who isn’t great at any one thing (other than hustle) but is good at just about everything. If he continues progressing, it could make it much easier for the Bulls if and when they decide to part with Joakim Noah and/or Taj Gibson.
He hasn’t gotten much run this year, but when he has he’s delivered:
7.6 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 47.7 FG%, 42.9 3PT%, 16.9 PER in only 13.4 mpg (9 games played)

TripleDoubleScoutParticipantHis motor is what will make him successful, and what makes Gibson (who I love) expendable. Maybe shouldn’t have been a lotto pick, but definitely shouldn’t have been there for the Bulls…

PrecociousNeophyteParticipant“Been a fan since his Arkansas days” lol that was only 9 months ago. You make it sound like it was 5-10 years ago. I agree though he has been a nice player for them when he does get his chances. He looked really impressive against the Knicks at the garden a week or two ago.

CameronCrazy11ParticipantHaha yeah I probably should have worded that better. I pretty much meant that I liked him as a player in college as well and wasn’t just jumping on the bandwagon now.

FritzParticipantI have seen just about all his summer league, preason and regular season minutes and I am more than impressed.
So impressed that I think he is our most valuable front court asset. I think he has a brighter future than Mirotic, and because of age I would rather keep him than Noah, Taj and Pau.
It is hard to believe, but I am getting more and more comfortable saying Bobby is the best shooting big man on our team right now. His stroke is pure. He is fearless on the court, motor is incredible, and his post skills are quick, decisive, effective, and polished at his age.
I may be too optimistic but I think he has way more than just role player potential in his future. I dont see any holes in his game that limit his ability to become an All-Star caliber player for multiple seasons.
By his third season I expect no less than 18 PPG and 8 Rebounds from this guy, and keep in mind if he stayed in school his 3rd NBA season would be his senior year of college. When this draft is looked back at I think Bobby will fall somewhere between the 4-10 range for best players from this draft class.

aktripleParticipantIm annoyed that the wizards didnt pick him up in the draft instead of oubre jr as he would fit right into the starting four spot i think

OhCanada-ParticipantI remember making a Portis vs. Turner thread suggesting it maybe a good idea to select Port is. When he slipped past the Raptors on draft day I was so confused. Yes making a lot of team’s that passed on him look stupid right now.

ExumInfernoParticipantBulls can start fresh, with Butler, Mirotic and Portis, plus McDermott off the bench.
Rose, Gasol, Noah, Gibson, maybe not the future there.
Portis was a draft steal. He has a quick release on his shot, and is very accurate.
