Am I the only one who thinks Blake Griffin is a little overated. I live in Oklahoma, so I watched about all of his games. Even when they beat Syracuse after Devendorf had a bad shooting night. Anyway, I like Griffin’s strength, and fundamentals (which could carry him far) but athletically, he seems a tier below players such as Stoudamire, Garnett, etc.

I only see him as a 16 ppg and 8 rb player. Anyone else agree?

I agree. In 2008, he would have went between 6-10. I think he is not a superstar as everyone thinks.

I would’ve picked Griffin over Beasley in 2008. There was plenty of talk that he could’ve gone as high as two.

Griffin will average 16 and 8 his rookie season. He’ll be a double-double guy his 2nd season. He may not be in the same tier as Amare and KG athletically, but IDK what other four man is.

I think that he is going to be a very good player i would compare him to a slightly better version of Kenyon Martin but i dont see him being a superstar i think 16 points 8 rebounds is about right.

He is a little overrated… but u should expect that because he has a lot of buzz surrounding his name for being the number 1 overall pick in the draft, which is why they gave him MVP in the summer league that was rightfully Anthony Randolph’s… but for a rookie 16 ppg and 8 rpg aint bad… not a lock for ROY but i’ve seen that he can pass and that he is developing a jumpshot, so he is only going to get better

You’re right. He isn’t a lock for rookie of the year. That will go to Tyreke Evens. And everyone knows that I’m a Syracuse University and Jonny Flynn fan.

Who do the people on this site think ISNT overrated???…I mean yall have said Dwight Howard, Lebron, Cp3. What yall expect these players to do, take over the world? Blake Griffin isnt overrated, nobody really expects him to be an all-star or All-NBA performer immediately, everybody usually has said they expect him to perform at a high level in his 1st year and then be an all-star down the line. I agree with those assessments. Everybody isnt overrated now, especially when they put up good stats and get wins.

i see it. its easy to get talented power forwards on your team but, not one with a crazy work ethic like him, he should be an all-star by his 3rd or 4th year.

D Hamp, I think Blake Griffin is one of those elite players that comes along once every 2 or 3 years. I didn’t see him as often as you did which might be a plus. If you watch a guy every night, you will eventually get to see flaws in his game.

From my perspective, he’s a guy who was so much better than everyone else that you’d have to be blind to miss it. The only doubt I have about him is the fact that he’s playing with the Clippers. That’s been a dysfunctional team/organization for decades and Mike Dunleavy has added a new layer of dysfunctionality to the team.

But in the end, Griffin is so talented and has that extra drive great players need, so I believe he will become a perennial NBA All Star. I also predict he’ll have a much better rookie year than Michael Beasley did.

I don’t. if he would have entered the 2008 NBA draft, the highest he would have went is like 8. I think Blake will have a nice career with maybe a couple of all-star games but not a Superstar-HOF type career.

QGotham15 and I disagree so it will be very interesting to see how he does this season.

If you followed various threads on this website, you’ll know that I think Tyler Hansbrough will become an excellent player at the professional level. He won’t be a star but he will be consistent, a consummate team player, and a solid role player for many years.

As much as I like Hansbrough I was amazed when I watched Carolina vs Oklahoma. Blake Griffin performed at an extremely higher level than Hansbrough and he looked like a big time super star. I realize that was college and only one game, but you don’t see that too often.

As I said above, the only things that can hold him back are injuries and/or playing for the Clippers.

I think Hansbrough going 13th shows how weak this draft is. I think in a draft with some more talent, he would have been picked around 18-25

But I think Hansbrough will be solid if he gets the PT

I believe that Griffin is kind of overrated as well actually, He’ll be above average and maybe an all star a couple times, maybe. And I dont think he will win rookie of the year.
I think that will go to Flynn, Jennings or Evans (in no order)

I’m not sure how good he’s going to be, but I think he’s going to be a special player. He’s tall athletic and he has good hands. I think his defense and passing is better than what you may think. Not many college teams are going to let their best player be too aggressive unless they are really deep. I think people will really get to see how good he is once he’s playing beside actual NBA talent. Last year I think he would have been top 5 for sure.

The thing I do think that is overrated is rookie year. There will probably be a few guys that have really promising rookie years and never get any better. By the way, my early leader for ROY is Tyreke Evans. He should put up big numbers this year. He plays for a bad team, he’ll have the ball in his hands a ton and he should have a lot of freedom to score and go to the basket at will.

Dhamp is absolutely correct. He is definitely a step below Stoudemire, Bosh, Garnett, etc. He might not have even gone top 5 if he went out last year. In fact he might have gone around 7 or 8. He will be an upper tier PF for his career but not a franchise changer.
