IndianaBasketballParticipantIF not for Bird’s back injury, he would’ve had a chance at being the best player ever.
I don’t think Bird is given enough credit for just how great he was. He’s STILL the best small forward of all-time in my opinion.

omphalosParticipantYeah I’m with IB on this one, Bird is still a better player than Lebron in the grand scheme of things at the SF.

JoeWolf1Why don’t players have mid-range games anymore?

RUDEBOY_ParticipantWhen i was younger Dr. J was the guy i thought was the best small forward ever..But as i got older i realized Dr. J wasnt as good a player as Bird…..What surprised me most about Bird was his defense…Bird had no Limitations in his Game…

Bird_YearsParticipantHe was also the only player ever to have a 50-40-90 season while averaging more than 25 points per game (He actually had two, 87 and 88, and Dirk almost had one)

Mr. ChicagoParticipantI agree he is the greatest small forward of all time.
However, I wouldn’t put him ahead of Bill Russell or Jordan regardless. Who are your top 5 of all time? And why?

mercyman25ParticipantNow you guys are talking! Bird! Top 5 player of all time, Bird, Magic , Jordan, Russell, Chamberlain. For me it is nearly impossible to say who was the best. Any of those players would have embarrassed the Kobe’s and Lebron’s. The best then and now. You can tell someone is a novice when they try to compare players to these.

IndianaBasketballParticipantYea, Michael Jordan is at the top for me. I was saying that if Larry Bird didn’t hurt his back, I think he’d at least be getting consideration.
I’d have to think about my top five and get back with you. Other than Jordan, I can’t come to a decision. It’s tough… Especially ranking bigs and wings together.

HaleParticipantI was watching clips of him about 2 months ago and just blown away. Everyone always talks about Magic vs. Bird, but we still overlook how good he actually was, and he was amazing.

rileymcshea3ParticipantThing that make him amazing is that he was basketball quick .He did stuff before people could even think about doing it
