I have read up on Billy King after he was degraded from GM of the Brooklyn Nets and i wonder how he got the job from the beginning? He made bad decision after bad decision in Philadelphia, and it seems as if he has made similar mistakes in Brooklyn… I know hindsight is 20/20… but it is quite remarkable that he still has a job in the NBA.

A very bad GM.  Much worse for the Nets than the 76ers, so if this continues imagine the destruction he will cause the next team to hire him.

Why did the Nets get him, that is something that should be investigated.  While he had a few good moves with the 76ers, everyone knew he wasn’t very good at his job.

Maybe it’s not what you know, but who you know.  Billy King had his Duke connections, so even if he was someone who would trade the Lillard pick for a broken Gerald Wallace or at his previous team draft Larry Hughes over Pierce and Nowitzki with input from Larry Brown, and maybe that got him the GM spots.

Brooklyn’s problems were bigger than just Billy King.  Ownership pushed him to put together a team that would win a championship in 5 years.  The moves King made were signed off on by ownership.  One thing I would say is King must have forgotten that he could put protections on draft picks.

Forsight was 20/20 with everyone outside of the Nets organization about King.

The guy did build a team that may appear in the finals multiple times. He just built it in Boston.

Does Brooklyn actually have a fanbase?

Or are they just a team that gives tourists and opposition fans an opportunity to watch an NBA game in New York.

The atmosphere at Brooklyn games seems so phoney.

Ive never actually met a Brooklyn Nets fan.

how absolutely insane some of these crazy rich owners truly are……. & the degree to which people who have immense wealth equate that with the belief that they are Much smarter then Everyone else……..

I remember when King was in Phila w/ a new ownership group who was going to reinvent the wheel, he was basically forced to trade for a broken down Chris Webber to be paired w/ a past his prime Allen Iverson…… On fan appreciation night…… the ONE game a year where season ticket holders can bring their kids early & the players interact w/ Mostly kids for an hour before the game……

Neither Webber or Iverson showed up…… Video of both men entering just before game time surfaced, laughing & joking as they entered the building….. of course it became a big story locally & a disgusted Billy King made No attempt to protect the two players…… King – in the classy way that he always does – did not criticize but he was visibly upset & promised the fans that "it was unacceptable behavior" & that the players would be "dealt with….."

King, reportedly was ready to dump both players in trades just to get them off the team…… But the owner stepped in & overruled King & both players were back in the line up for the next game…..

King was known as a pragmatic, bright GM & by all accounts King was doing a good job before the latest owner arrived, but as soon as the Russian Billionaire Prokorov took over, he acted like the smartest guy in the room, made no attempt to understand the unique NBA system, & began ordering his management team to Win Now….. Another owner ready to reinvent the wheel…..

We all know what "Win Now!" means… It’s happening right now in Sacramento & it Never works…. So I know Billy King is far from Red Aurbach but I also don’t think he’s had an opportunity in a good situation w/ entrenched, long term ownership that understand that Great teams are built through the Draft & even if you land great players it takes time…..

I remember watching that game and thinking “Why does Chris Webber keep shooting from there?”…It was a weird time for the 76ers.
