So it’s apparent that the big man is and has been fading from the NBA as a primary importance. There are only a few NBA teams now that go with 2 bigs in crunch time i.e. Laker with Gasol and Bynum.

So I was wondering if what people think the role of big men is going to be in the near future. The trend is that you play 1 good big and then surround him with perimeter players.

But with all the big men in this coming draft do you think teams playing 2 bigs is going to return? I love to see traditional big NBA line ups and I think if this crop of rookies turn out how they should a lot of teams will have some talented bigs for the near future

I believe teams will start to build with big men because I believe the way to beat the Heat is with a good pair at the 4 and 5. Since Wade and Lebron rely more on the drive then their shot.

I can see with the Raptors that what they’re trying with Andrea Bargnani and Jonas Valanciunas

I agree with you but it will require a lot of development in the bigs for this to happen. I am still holding out hope that Ed Davis can develop and him and Jonas will make a solid duo bc Bargnani cant defend well enough. But look at a team like the Clippers who have two freak bigs that have yet to develop enough to have them both on the floor for extended periods of time

I think its more than the teams fading away from using big men as their primary importance, it’s more like there aren’t enough talented big men to fit that bill.  I mean look at the make up of the league today, there are only a handful of real talented bigs and so many talented wing players.  Honestly in this draft too, there just aren’t that many sure-fire talented bigs either. Outside of A.Davis  and MAYBE Drummond if he pans out, and thats a big if.

and NO with anthony davis and okafor so big men are really important in the league today and they are definilty not fading in terms of importance to teams
