nrm210ParticipantFirst time posting but have been lurking since the days Lebron was still in high school. For all the NBAdraft.net veterans/historians, I have a question for y’all. What are some of the biggest NBAdraft.net player prediction busts you can remember since you’ve been affiliated with this site?
I’ll start with a few off the top of my head:
- DeShawn Stevenson having a player comparison of Michael Jordan coming out of high school.
- With the Euro craze in the mid-2000s, Nemanja Aleksandrov was heralded as the next big thing and was at one point mocked to go number 1 overall.
- I recall Chris Taft from Pitt being a top 3 pick in early mocks after his Freshman year
Just a few examples, but what are some other prediction busts over the last decade or so that you can recall?

SantaTheClauseParticipantMichael Beasley, 103 rating, comparison Carmelo Anthony.

CameronCrazy11ParticipantI gave you at +1, but to be fair, Beasley looked like a sure thing after his freshman year at Kansas State. He averaged 26.2 ppg, 12.4 rpg, 1.6 bpg, 1.3 spg, 1.2 apg and shot 53.2% from the field and 37.9% from 3. Consensus First Team All-American too. He had the talent to be a top 5 player in the league. That Carmelo comparison was definitely warranted at the time.

HobbyOGParticipantYou sound mad bro..but I agree with you. I’m tired of foreign players being over hyped. I can’t remember the last one going in the top 10 that was good as advertised.

Bencelticsfan2346Participantumm Porzingis has been playin in the top tier in Spain which some say is better than college here(not quite sold on that but still) He’s been playing pro for a long time and he is only 19, but he doesn’t play in the U.S. so he has no work ethic and he just can’t handle the work? is that what you’re saying?

ChewyParticipantfollowing for Anthony Randolph. No matter how many years he sat on the bench or underperformed people here still believed he was one year/one new team away from being great.
Full disclosure: I was on that bandwagon for about 4 years… never went anywhere, but I was on it.

HitsterParticipantDarko immediately sprang to mind also Hasheem Thabeet.
I once compared Hasheem to Hakeem the Dream on another site many years back.

BEARDED-DRAGONParticipantAlright, you stopped me lurking and got me to register, because i was just randomly researching what happened to this guy today for no reason (not alot of works getting done on draft week). But anybody remember Renardo Sidney? this site was all over his dick at one point, as apparently he was zach randolf incarnant. maybe better, because apparently he could shoot threes. i may have this a little mixed up but i think he was a top ten or lottery pick (granted a lot of other sites predicted this too) and then he fell down the draft boards and eventually off completely after several incidents while at mississipi state. anyways, hes attempting a comeback, after going undrafted, playing in costa rica and canada, and having some dark days. dude is "only" 25, and has recently lost 30-40 lbs, but i doubt he’ll get a chance to ever hit an nba hardwood.

mgreener_34ParticipantIt’s amazing how many people lurk this site and don’t post, glad to see some people finally commit, and hope they add to the community!
For me, I’ll go a little off of the thread of player comparisons, and go more towards people who the entire site were deadlocked on, or didn’t want to give up on.
Demar Derozen- This site had him at #1 forever, and people thought he would be Vince Carter. Demar is a fine player, but people thought he would be what Harden is today
Tiny Gallon- I’ve never seen a player so bad have such a huge following in my life
Jerred Bayless- This site had him going 5th, and I remember people thought it was outrageous that he ended up sliding to 11th
Marshon Brooks- Most people thought he would be an electric scorer in the league
Ricky Ledo- Again, people thought he had point forward skills and would be a great scorer
For the most part, as this site has gotten more popular over the years, I feel like Aran has toned down his player comparisons, and is actually spot on with a lot of them.

CynthiaParticipantI used to lurk a lot myself. I officially registered in 2011 but I had been lurking the site since 2007 or 2008. I think it’s pretty common, I wish a lot more people would just register and chip-in though. I’m glad I did.
Welcome to all the new guys!

apb540ParticipantIdk if the site had him rated too high or not but I know I did. I was certain he was a 20 ppg scorer but that hasn’t materialized for a reason: he’s a great NBA role player. Which makes him one of the top 150-200 basketball players on the planet, but I thought he was going to be a top 50 player.

BKGingerSnapParticipantWhile not the biggest bust ever, Joe Alexander had a 97 rating and seemed like he was out of the league by the end of second season

King MellowParticipantI’ve been lurking for years in this awesome site and decided to register.
Shabazz Muhammed – Dubbed to be the next Kobe Bryant and once considered as the 1st pick.
Josh Selby – He’s a great high school player but his talent didn’t materialized in college and in the NBA. Where is he now?
DeAndre Jordan – I remember this site had him projected to be picked at 10 or 11, correct me if I’m wrong. He has a decent career though.

cycloParticipantYeah, Aran compared DeAndre Jordan to Dwight Howard prior to Jordan being drafted then Jordan was drafted in the second round and for a few years the comparison seemed silly. Then Jordan put it together, became one of the most explosive dunkers in the league, a consistent double double guy, one of the best defensive centers in the NBA, leads the entire NBA in rebounding, goes head to head against Dwight in the playoffs, plays Dwight to a near standstill and finally… the comparison looks accurate. At least as accurate as a comparison between two different players can be.
