Johnson by a mile. He’s a very underrated shooter.

And while Winslow used to have a clear quickness/athleticism advantage on Johnson, Winslow has lost that advantage as he continues to fill out into the 230 lb range.

I’ll go with Johnson, only because I see him getting more pt right off the bat. I still like Winslow’s potential more though, and see him having the better career overall.

I’ve got Winslow and Mudiay as the two most overrated dudes in the draft. I live less than 3 miles from where Winslow played hs ball and have seen him countless times and have never understood the hype. Felt the same about the Harrison twins [who were 30 miles from my spot]. He was just more physically developed than 95% of the kids he played against. He’s not near as quick or athletic as people thought, can’t finish in traffic, can’t blow by or finish over the top of defenders, can’t shoot or create his own shot….. His saving grace in the SL was his LeBron like ability to get phantom calls that sent him to the line. Other than that, he looked pretty bad. He’s a guy that if he stayed two more years he might not have gotten drafted.

I could not agree more on Winslow. I personally wouldn’t have touched him in the lottery.

LOL. This one of the most ridiculous statements I’ve seen on here.

You’re saying that because of what you saw in high school. LOL. And you justifying it based on the Harrison Twis/

And now you judging him off summer league when most part he played little minutes and he was injured. LOL. You must believe D’Angelo Russell is the worst then.

No, I’m basing it off of years of evaluation. I played in college, had some pro chances that I blew due to being an idiot and getting injured [two seperate things, haha], and now coach at a private HS here in Houston. I’ve been around the game a long time, and I’m seldom wrong in evaluating ballplayers. Actually, Winslow played huge minutes and wasn’t injured ’til the end of of Orlando/beginning of Vegas. He looked awful, and all of his flaws [bad shot, shaky handle, inability to create and convert] were exposed while his supposed strenths [athletic ability, getting to the rack, ability to finish] turned out to be not that strong. The kid’s gonna be in way over his head for awhile, and I’d be surprised if he isn’t sent to the D-League this year.

johnson looked better in summer league and has an nba ready body and is a better shooter. Defensively i would say they are about equals. Only real advantage winslow has is ball handling and speed. he can really get into the lane when he wants. I think johnson is also in a better situation with the pistons to contribute right away. Im going with stanley johnson both rookie year and long term.

I’m an Arizona fan but I was leaning towards Winslow going into the draft. We didn’t get to see much of Winslow during SL due to injury so I don’t think it’s fair to go off that alone. I think Johnson is an overrated athlete and underrated shooter, but I still want to see a little more arch on that shot . Winslow is much more fluid but more predictable on offense. Both will be able to contribute on defense right away and I think both were put into great situations but I’m sticking with Winslow as of now.

I thought Stanley Johnson looked pretty good. I would say that he’s a solid athlete with decent quickness and has a pretty good jumpshot. His ball handling seemed good enough to help create his own offense. Justise Winslow clearly has the athletic advantages and has a good amount of skills. The problem is that he kind of reminds me of Terrance Williams. granted Williams was about 3 years older than Winslow when he was drafted but they had similar skillsets. They both had a plethora of skills but weren’t very good at any one thing on the court. You’re hoping that he’ll put all of those skills together along with the athletic advantages so that they will become a great player when that often doesn’t happen. I’ll say that Winslow is going to a pretty good basketball situation with a good amount of vets and getting a great teacher like D-Wade is going to help him big time.

Also to answer the question I think that Stanley Johnson will have the better rookie season. But Justise Winslow is the more talented of the 2. I would compare Stanley Johnson to Kawhi Leonard, Caron Butler, and Jimmy Butler. I compare Winslow to James Harden (not saying he’ll be that good.) and Terrance Williams.

Stanley Johnson will have the better rookie season because he gets playing time right away unlike Winslow who comes off the bench behind Wade and Deng but Winslow will be the better player when its all said and done.

Winslow will be a very good pro, I don’t like his upside as much as Stanley Johnson, But that all depends on Johnsons IQ and work ethic is there to put it all together…  Johnson has the tools to be great, great length and with the prior coaching from Sean Miller, he knows how to defend and play tired on the defensive end.. which most rookies don’t know how to do.

Winslow to me, doesn’t have nearly the upside as Johnson, but he’s more NBA ready. Winslow coming out of the draft, outside of Okafor and Mudiay was in my opinion  a pretty safe bet to contribute from the start of the season..  He has great confidence and has a strong frame. He won’t be nearly as good in transition as Johnson, but he will be decent. He’s a little clunky when he plays but gets the job done.. his potential is a bit capped.. but he’s more ready than Johnson

I think that Stanley Johnson’s upside probably isn’t as high as Winslow’s in my opinion. I do like both players though. If anything I thought there were a lot of people sleeping on Johnson and maybe overrating Winslow just a bit initially before the draft. After Summer League though I would say that Johnson could be a really good player in the NBA. Granted it was just Summer League but I think he may have opened some eyes with his play. With Winslow I see the physical talent and the versatility. His Summer League was really up and down though. He made a huge amount of boneheaded plays but then would follow them up with great athletic plays. I just think it may take him a bit longer to put it together but, he does have the higher upside. I think the comparisons to Ron Artest or Jimmy Butler for Stanley Johnson were pretty spot on though.
