Seamo15ParticipantWith talk of New Orleans having their name changed to something better suited, is this a good time for other teams to follow the example?
I would love to see Utah change its name, maybe give new Orleans the jazz .

dmo21Participantlots of team names are irrelevant to their cities nowadays as teams have moved all over the place but kept the name. Like Utah, New Orleans, the Lakers, Memphis, and others, they kept the teams name after the move, which I find dumb.

Seamo15ParticipantYeah it doesn’t make a lot of sense. I suppose they want to maintain legacy and their team as a bran. I’m all for that but newer teams like the grizz are certainly in a position to make a name change given their recent success, start fresh .

dmo21ParticipantWell I just looked some stuff up and there are 7 teams with names that are no longer relevant to where the team is (not counting generic names). You have:
Atlanta Hawks
Golden State Warriors
Los Angeles Clippers
Los Angeles Lakers
Memphis Grizzlies
New Orleans Hornets
Utah Jazz
what types of new names would fit with these teams? (I know they won’t change them due to history and stuff, but we can make this a game lol)

Seamo15ParticipantAh I’m no good at these haha. Not being from America makes it harder to think of landmark based names

omphalosParticipantWas thinking about all these name changing shenanigans, and here is what should happen in my opinion.
– Utah Jazz become the Utah Raptors.
– New Orleans Hornets become the New Orleans Jazz again.
– Toronto Raptors become the Toronto Huskies again.
– Charlotte Bobcats become the Charlotte Hornets again. Those names not only sound better in every case, but make a lot more sense geographically. The Toronto Raptors is obviously a cool name, but Raptors was the only other name that made sense for Utah which wasn’t Mormon related, and I’ve always thought Raptors are on odd mascot for Toronto.
What do you guys think?

The White MambaParticipant^ I like the Huskies for Toronto but i dont think the Raptors would be good for the Jazz i think something a little more simple would be alot better.

frogmanParticipantI’m sure the people of New Orleans would just be thrilled for their team to be called the Hurricanes…
And I don’t know if your serious or not flybobbyfly but those are some dreadful names

Ahkasi ClayParticipantThe Jazz could change the name of the delta, oops i mean energy solutions building to the Second Salt Palace, then change there name to he Salt Lake Sting
It ties in both the Great Salt Lake, and the Beehive State.

Seamo15ParticipantToronto Huskies is cool. There was talk that they also wanted to steam line the hornets with the saints, change their name and colors to black and gold.

fennisdemboParticipantNew Orleans Blues- Utah loves their name so this is a natural choice

HitsterParticipantI doubt that any long established team would want to change their name but giving the Hornets back to Charlotte and getting New Orleans a new monikor as their new owners are discussing would make sense.
The Wizards going bck to the Bullets name would be quite appealing but with the Arenas incident in recent yearsgun crime etc would it be seen as being in good taste.
Also with all the NFLMLBNHL teams plus the college nicknames and various trademark issues coming up with a suitable tag always gets a harder.
