Which combo do you think will be better.  The Cavs’ likely duo of Kyrie and Jonas or a potential Jazz duo of Enes Kanter and Jimmer Fredette?

I think that a 1 & 4 combo should be vastly better than a 3 & 12 combo but I am just not seeing it.  Both big men are question marks but Enes Kanter looks pretty good offensively judging by the Nike Hoops Summit Game.  You kind of know what you will get with Jimmer, great shooter with NBA range and the Finals saw a guy like him who torched the Heat and Lakers (JJ Barea).  Kyrie Irving will probably be an above-average point guard but will he be an elite superstar?  I am really not sure, and I would have to say no.

Superstars win in this league.  That’s the only consistent thing really.  Outside Pistons’ title teams, players who go by one name have won the title (Magic, Larry, Michael aka Jordan aka MJ, Hakeem, Duncan, Shaq, Kobe, and Dirk with guys named Moses, the Doctor, and the Admiral in there too).  Kyrie and Jonas sound good but I think the Cavs STILL would need a guy with superstar potential.  A superstar wing player who can do it all, shoot from anywhere, and jump out of the gym.  Maybe the Cavs can find that guy next year.  Maybe a safer bet would be to take Derrick Williams and hope he is that guy, knowing that they can get a good point guard at 4 to run the team.  Then pick a big man next year.  Or pick Williams at 1 and take Jonas at 4 giving you a front line for the future of Derrick Williams, JJ Hickson, and Jonas with Varejao coming off the bench.  Then go after a pass-first point guard next year like Myck Kabongo or Kendall Marshall.

As a BASKETBALL FAN I would be excited about Kanter and Jimmer, and the other exciting young rookie combo of (possibly) Rubio and Derrick Williams in Minnesota.  I would buy tickets to see those two teams play?  But what about Kyrie (Jonas will still be overseas)? Would I pay to see him play?  I am not too sure.  He sounds pretty good, but I would rather spend my money watching guys like Dirk, Rose, LeBron/Wade, Howard, Durant, Kobe, and Blake Griffin, the Rubio/Williams and Kanter/Jimmer (big Jimmer fan), and even other rookies like Kemba Walker and Jan Vesely (if the Wiz grab Vesely then the Wall, McGee, Vesely trio will be MUST SEE.).

Great, captivating players not only help sell out HOME games but also AWAY games.  Will Kyrie reach that level?  It’s a stretch…

I like the duo of Jimmer and Kanter..

But Utah would have to get lucky and hope the Kings don’t pick him at 10.

I think Utah made a smart decision. I think they put Knight up as a smokescreen so that other teams wouldn’t work out Jimmer + Kemba as much.

Now they’ve changed the draft… I think they’ll be happy with either Jimmer or Kemba. If both guys are gone, someone reallly good is likely to fall… Leonard perhaps?

I like Jimmer more than many on this site, but I think Kyrie is easily better than him.  Also, I think Valanciunas is a much less risky pick than Kanter, and Valanciunas may have a higher ceiling as well.  I think getting Kanter/Jimmer would be great for the Jazz, but the Kyrie/Valanciunas combo will be even better.

Irving and Jonas. Both bigs are fairly unknown, but I think Irving puts them over the top. A lot of people are discounting Irving because he’s one of many good point guards to come out lately, but I like his game and think he could thrive anywhere. I’m not a Jimmer fan, but the guy does have some real NBA skills, I just think that Jimmer is really going to have to be in the right situation to thrive. People are saying Jimmer should go to NY if NY can move up, but I don’t see how that is a good fit. Statistically it’s perfect, but as far as Winning I’m not sure I like the idea of play Jimmer with Melo and Amare, unless I could get a hold of a 2 guard with good size that is going to be the primary facilitator.

I like Kanter and Jimmer. I would also like Kanter and Knight more then any possible draft combo (maybe aside from Williams Irving) which is something Cleveland can obtain. They wanna go with the marketing route. Irving and whatever.

Since OhCanada mentioned Knight I am wondering why so many people are high on him. I think he has good potential, but I really think his ceiling is Chauncey Billups. It’s not bad, but that’s not even a perenial all star. He’s obviously a smart kid academic wise, but I don’t see the basketball IQ on the court and I don’t see much as far as ball handling or attacking the rim. Hopefully he proves me wrong, but I think he is the most likely to be bust out of the top picks in the draft. I think he will end up having a solid and long career which isn’t the worst thing in this draft, I just don’t see the star potential.
