best-(Memphis and Oklahoma City) College-like atmospheres in the arena, very energetic passionate fans.  Smaller market teams make for better fans, blue-collar, no glitz and glamour

worst-(Miami and Los Angeles) Exact opposite of Memphis and OKC.  All the glitz and glamour, show up late leave early, celebrities texting and showing up to be seen rather than watching basketball.

    Who else?

I’ve heard at Energy Solutions Arena, home of the Utah Jazz, it can be hard to hear the whistle because the fans are cheering so loudly.

Best- Golden State have really dedicated fans, I mean they still go to games even though they tank

Worst- Miami, for how great their team is and a good portion of their fans don’t show up until after the first quarter

Miami are the worst…watching their games annoys me seeing so many empty seats in the lower bowl to start games. Laker fans are bad too

back when utah played the bulls in the nba finalsin 97 and 98, the delta center as it ws called then, was the loudest arena in the nba,  i remember them doing decibal level checks pregame and the noise neared jet engine levels,

although theyre leaving new jersey. the nets had the worst fans simply because they barely had any in either the meadowlands and the prudential center. best fans i think are OKC fans. every single game from the opening tip they seem to be making a lot of noise

Gotta love the "Minnesota nice"!.. I think the 76ers have some great fans too, cheering Rose was a pretty classy move the other night… I don’t really tend to trust any fans of NBA teams that are winning… Such as Miami fans right now.. I think it’s worth mentioning that there are a lot of "bandwagon" NBA fans (more so than in MLB perhaps, where people seem to almost never cross lines)… This might just be because I am a wolves fan though, and we are always bitter toward fans of winning fans (we just don’t tell anyone, oops)…

Memphis fans are average at best.  They show up when the team is good and appear to ahve a decent understanding of the game.  I know they aren’t that good of fans because I had a season ticket plan at one point and they didn’t resell for dirt.  Memphis University was averaging more fans than them.

Best: GS Warriors: Rarely get to show it but when they do it’s unreal

Worst: Miami Heat: I’m not even saying this because I hate the team; it’s because I’ve been to miami and I know see why no one cares about sports down there.  It’s just too dam nice.  Or maybe I am just making excuses for why they show up late, leave early, take long ass breaks at halftime, are quiet, and sometimes clearly display minimal basketball knowledge.

Lakers fans piss me off. And this is coming froma guy who lives in LA and has heard it from Lakers fans(I’m a Clips fan) all his life. They know nothing about basketball, everyone thought Deerek Fisher was the best pg in the NBA. They literally don’t know shit about anything but the Lakers, and even then thats pushing it. I even got into a fight with a guy on facebook who thought Luke walton for Ramon Sessions was a BAD trade. Seriously they are so annoying.

Yeh when Golden State was playing Dallas in that 1 v 8 matchup a few years back we got to see those fans in a playoff atmosphere for as long as I can remember.  I nearly went deaf when Baron Davis dunked on Kirilenko (Still one of my favorite dunks ever and the crowd was a big reason why)

PS. FireKahn you claim you are a Wolves fan but you only appear on here to tell everyone how shiit they are.  You really don’t sound like a fan at all.

Philadelphia Sports fans are the BEST and WORST fans in The Sports Universe(next to International Football Fans)

Philly fans not only show insane support to their franchises, but they completely Loath their rivals and have a worldwide reputation for being the harshest fans to opponents

I could give a few examples of Philly fans being complete A-Holes

    1. Boooing and then Snowballing Santa during Christmas season

    2. Cheering for Micheal Irving’s carrer ending injury

    3. Chanting "O.D, O.D ,O.D" during a Cowboys Vs. Eagles game shortly after T.O almost overdosed himself a few years back

BUT…Philly fans are also some of the most loyal fans on The Planet, former stars have been adopted by the City, they live and work in the area after their carrers are done, many of them are involved with the Teams post NBA/NFL/MLB

We make sure our Players are held in the highest regard, we recently signed Brian Dawkins to a 1 Day contract so that he could retire an E.A.G.L.E, he was not only a first rate Philadelphia superstar he was an NFL Hall of Famer

Local College athletes are given that same extension of love and support

Philly fans can be the roughest, toughest &$#%#&@!s in the sports world, but we Live and Die for our Phillies, Eagles, 76ers and Flyers

The best gotta b GS they have die hard fans and make plenty of noise. Knicks have great fans also cuz they no bball so well and respect greatness whether it’s one of there own players balling or an opponent they still show love. Also like grizzles and OKC bcuz of the college feel they bring.

Worst has to be the hawks when they play a good or historic team (Boston,NY,Heat,Lakers) u can hear fans cheering for them just as much as hawks. Also the nets nobody really goes to the games plus there energy isn’t the best.

I’ve had a weird thing for them ever since the Mitch Richmond/Chris Mullin days, but I don’t get why everybody claims their fans are such die hard supporters…

Is this all based off of 1 playoff upset and great highlight dunk???

There fans are wishy washy sometimes, and most game attending Warriors fans are jaded Lakers/Clippers castaways…I believe Jessica Alba was one of their biggest supporters during that playoff run and I’m not sure if she’s been involved since…She’s certainly no Ashley Judd @ Kentucky, she’s a real fan…

NY Knicks/LA Lakers fans are carbon copies of each other, The Rich and Famous populate the front row and act as the faces of their fanbases, but the true fans are The Locals …In Cali the Lakers can actually be the 1 common bond in a state torn apart by gangs, In NY the lower, middle and upper class all cheer for the Knickerbockers too…

Boston/NE area fans are also some of the loudest/greatest/most annoying fans in the world too, they are a very spoiled bunch but they are hard to argue with…The Celtics are a legendary franchise, as a 76er fan I can’t help but show respect for my sworn Enemy…again LA and NY are my natural Enemies too…But those 3 Cities need to get their credit in this Thread…

Also Chicago not being mentioned is a travesty, they support all their Teams equally and have been some of the most successful Sports cities in recent memory, The Bulls 6 Ring run alone should put them up here…Also Detroit has seen it’s hardships but they are still in it for the long haul, I commend that fanbase for holding it together…

It’s tough being such a big basketball fan living in LA and having to deal with morons that know nothing about basketball and only about Kobe and Bynum. Lakers fans are so dumb they wanted to trade Pau so bad thinking he was garbage.  I had to stop listening to sports radio here because it was taking years off my life with the idiocy.

I’ve heard Atlanta has easily the worst fans in the NBA as well, but I don’t know what that’s based off.

    Miami fans obviously suck.

I’m from Phoenix and we have mediocre fans.

Portland has a very very strong fan base, and so did Seattle RIP.

I don’t think you can even really consider the people at Heat games fans. When you don’t come till the 2nd quarter, you are not a fan. They are just off the chart of awfulness. But Lakers fans are terrible. SuperNova said it best when he said they really don’t know much about other teams. I always see this on forums. Lakers fans are sooo biased it is discusting. Other fans usually have a better understanding of other teams and aren’t as ignorant. But LA is so superficial and materialistic and fake, that kind of explains it. That being said, I think Sacramento has some pretty good fans. I went to a game there not long ago and was blown away at how die hard the Kings fans were for the shitty Kings this year. But they were also sooo annoying. Begginning of the game I hear how DMC is the next Shaq. End of the game everyone is saying Cousins sucks take him out for Chuck Hayes. Like come on people? I guess you get good and bad anywhere, but the majority of fans have no idea about the NBA, or even there team for that matter. Not saying the average fan on this site, because we all clearly know a lot about basketball, but the average fan at a game does not know that much.

What I don’t get is how the Miami arena isn’t filled to the brim an hour before each game?

Two of the most exciting players in the WHOLE WORLD on one team and they can’t bother to show up at tip off????

They don’t derserve Lebron and Wade and it’s kind of pathetic that there is better attendance at the Miami Heat away games than there is at Miami home games.

    Despicable.

Im gonna go with Portland on this one. They didnt have a great season this year but they still had the 2nd highest average attendance in the NBA. That shows committment to the team and fans come out to games whether the teams winning or losing.

I was also surprised by how low the Pacers average attendance was. One of the worst average attendance even though their team was pretty awesome this season.

yea Hawks fans suck. im sure every city has fans of teams other than the home team but there’s so many people who arent orinally from here that it gets rediculous. been more than a few games where an opposing player has recieved MVP chants at phillips arena…on national freakin television.
    like in the playoffs:
Atlanta scores late in the 4th in Boston = dead fucking quiet.
Boston scores late in the 4th in Atlanta = i’d swear half the arena is cheering.

I would say as far as playoff atmospheres go, 2007 Golden State, 2002 Sacramento, and 90s Utah come to mind. Right now, Memphis easily has the loudest crowd ahead of OKC.

I’m not crazy about our typical fans and I personaly like more something like Portland fans type aproch then what I see here in Europe, but they are not close to be called "bad" or know for anything around world. I can tell you that only fans in US that get some respect from most people in Europe are NCAA fans. Boooing, chanting insults and stuff like that is considerd polite and normal welcome for oponets. Basketball clubs like Partizan, Zvezda, Olympiacos, Panathinaikos, Zadar, Maccabi, Galatasaray, Fenerbahce etc. have football like fans. Even some unknown small clubs like Alkar or Sinj have fans like that. i see in NBA fans with guest shirts all time mixed with home fans (wich is why I like US fans more). In europe before greek federation baned guest fans they had to be separateded by 3000-4000 man dresed as robocop in 1800 arena in wich hey alowed only 9000 total fans number

My boy Bismack Biyombo gets the love he deserves in Charlotte. The fact that anybody shows up to Bobcat games is impressive.

@LLPEREZ – Another Laker fan that can’t take any criticism. Most fans will say yeah our fans who dont know anything suck, but I am a good fan, but Lakers fans embrace their  fans who don’t know anything. If you call someone a hater instead of attempting to defend your opinion, than you are not a good fan. Just being ignorant. Lakers fans remind me of Knicks fans, except they don’t have to suffer as much. But when Kobe was getting 35 PPG and they were winning 35 games per year, the fans were saying they were gonna win the championship just like Knicks fans do every year, when they really had no shot. I like fan bases who are more realistic and support their team for the long haul and don’t change their opinion overnight because of a loss. Fanbases with patience, who aren’t going to want their best player traded after a sub-par night. I think the Timberwolves aren’t bad as they have supported their team’s rebuilding effort through a lot of losses. Portland, Memphis, OKC also come to mind. People question, myself included, if OKC would be as great of a fan base if they weren’t winning all these games. But I think that they would be. Obviously not quite as good, but remember how great of a fanbase they were during Katrina to the Hornets?

Obviously not everyone is a laker fan or a good fan, but to summarize laker fans as being poor fans is no different then someone from another country watching Jerry springer and saying “those crazy Americans”

Being in Memphis, Grizzlies fans are not the best in the NBA, no where close really. There not the worst either, but really they are only the second biggest basketball team in Memphis. The Memphis Tigers have a bigger fan base in Memphis than the Grizzlies do. Don’t get me wrong though, when the playoffs have started the past couple of years, everyone has gotten really excited about the Grizzlies. Which is why it it has been one of the best atmospheres in the playoffs.

    Worst- Miami(bandwagon haven) and Atlanta

As for New York, I’m a Knick fan

When the Knicks win, they’re the greatest, when they lose, they’re the worst

When Melo or STAT play well they’re top tier elite players, after a bad game, blow it up

I hate it, just how everyone is blaming Melo for not beating the Heat by himself, its a shame the way they treat him and every other high salary player

So Knicks fans can be the best and also the worst
