sixersman111ParticipantJimmy Bulter has been really impressive this season and I’m starting to think he might be the best sg in the NBA right now. He plays way better defense then James Harden and has been playing great offensive this season. I know he has Gasol, Noah and Rose to help keep the defense off him but still averaging 22 points per game on 49% is pretty impressive for a sg.

festar35ParticipantHe is joining the conversation no doubt, but he isn’t quite there.
I don’t like Harden, but he is still the best in the league at this point. I would also take Klay Thompson over Butler just by a little bit.
To me Butler is #3 just ahead of Wade and Kobe due to no other fact than he is playing this incredible ball on a winning team.

he_gets_bucketsParticipantHarden’s defense is still getting knocked, meanwhile he is #5 in the league in defensive efficiency rating and is top 10 in the league in steals and the only guard averaging 1.6+ steals and a block per. Yeah there will always be gifs being made of him letting a guy run past him and he will take plays off every now and again, but people need to stop acting like he is this huge black hole on defense.

he_gets_bucketsParticipantMy bad misread the chart I was looking at, he’s number 14 in def. efficiency, #2 in defensive win shares.

SmooveKRYPTParticipantHarden by far. He carried the Rockets for weeks with no Dwight as well as key players like T. Jones, Beverly, and JET missing time. Leading scorer in the league, and playing with much more effort and consistency in half court defense.
The only question is who’s 2nd Jimmy or Klay?

For_Never_EverParticipantMy fault. I thought in the league would consider Demar top 3.

he_gets_bucketsParticipantSince he’s only played half his teams games, I don’t think we can really be considering him just yet for best shooting guard THIS season. Obviously if he had been healthy he’d be well in the conversation.

benny15Participantit would have been nice to judge DeRozan’s game next to Klay and Jimmy B this season. in no order these are their stat line averages:
A: 21-3-3-1-0-2 with 45% FG and 86% FT
B: 19-4-2-1-0-2 with 39% FG and 82% FT
C: 21-6-3-1-0-1 with 48% FG and 83% FT
now i rounded down with all their averages, so some might even have better numbers than i posted, but all of them are close to each other. give or take a rebound here or a basket there, they are all within reach of one another. so stat wise, they make for a good discussion. their actual game with how they bring strengths in different areas of the game, it should even be better.

kazamParticipantRight now I have to say Harden is the best. Klay is a close second. Jimmy and Kobe are 3A and 3B respectively.
Though he isnt in the conversation yet, next year I expect this conversation to be a tougher one with guys like Beal and DeRozan being included

ItsVictorOladipoParticipantYeah I’d put Harden at #1 right now as well and Butler should probably be top 3 as well but I’m surprised there’s no love for Wade, he’s played real well for Miami this year even though he’s on the downside of his career and is often banged up. I’d probably have Monta Ellis in my top 5 as well.
As of right now I’d probably have it:
1 James Harden: 27.4 PPG, 6.9 APG, 6.1 RPG, one of the front runners for MVP this season
2 Jimmy Butler: 22.2 PPG, 6.2 RPG, 1.6 SPG, fantastic 2 way player who has really blossomed this year
3 Klay Thompson: 21.3 PPG, 3.3 APG, 43 3PT%, one of the shooters in the league is also an underrated defender
4 Dwyane Wade: 23.3 PPG, 5.5 APG, 51 FG%, not elite anymore but still an All-Star talent when healthy
5 Monta Ellis: 20.6 PPG, 4.6 APG, 1.7 SPG, finally filling the basket while on a contender
I realize that Kobe is averaging 24/5/5 this year but I would probably put him at #6. A FG% of .372 and a three point % of .275 are paltry. He’s really only scoring so much because he’s averaging 22 shots a game.

druneave3ParticipantWhile I prefer the play style of Jimmy Butler and what he brings to a team, Harden is the more skilled player.
Beal already ranks extremely high in my books.
Hope Oladipo takes that next step and enters in this debate also.
Kobe and Wade should probably still rank 1 and 2 respectively.
Lastly, what would Klay’s numbers be if he didn’t play alongside Steph?

IndianaBasketballParticipantI’d go with Jimmy Butler over Klay Thompson.
Thompson is a better shooter, but he doesn’t play as physical around the rim. Jump shots don’t always fall, so you need to be able to get to the line. Butler is relentless and shows no fear going to the basket.
Butler just has a better all-around game in my opinion. Both are very good defenders, but I just feel Butler is more active.
I watched Butler up close vs the Pacers recently and he’s just a workhorse out there. He’s all business. He’s the real deal and I only see him getting better. He’s going to develop into a guy with little to no holes in his game.

ExumInfernoParticipantHarden out in front as best shooting guard by a big margin. He has to do a lot of the work by himself, as Beverley and Ariza are spot-up shooters and Howard is someone who scores only inside. Harden takes a lot of shots but scores well, he gets around 2 steals and a block a game so he does put in effort on the defensive end.
Butler is in the mix for 2nd spot among shooting guards. Klay’s outside shooting may give him an edge, Wade isn’t out of the running although outside and free throw percentage are never good for him. Hayward could nearly be mentioned, although he has many small forward minutes. Pacers should bring back P George as a shooting guard next year, then there would be a challenger to Harden.

benny15Participanti really like the argument that I-bball pointed out earlier. Klay’s edge with outside shooting could be paired with Jimmy’s edge of getting to the line more. Klay is actually making almost 3 times as much 3’s as butler, but jimmy is getting more than double the free throw attempts thompson does.

CynthiaParticipantKobe is, and will be, the best SG until he retires. He’s 36, survived through a ridiculous amount of injuries and he’s still putting up 24/5/5? Sure his percentages are low, but if you seriously think any of the other SG’s listed already can put up those stats at 36 then you’re delusional.
0- Posted on: Fri, 01/02/2015 - 4:44am #960816

rich.homie.mitchParticipantThey probably can’t put up those numbers at 36, but that’s not what we’re looking at. We’re looking at who is the best SG right now in this season, not past records or future. The best sg right now is James Harden, he’s the league leader in ppg, and carried Houston when dwight was out. Kobe is also shooting 38% fg compared to Harden’s 44%. Jame’s PER is also a lot better than Kobe’s too. Kobe is a great player but he’s not the best sg right now.

Ghost01ParticipantWho cares if no one up can put up those stats at 36?
No one would question that Kobe Bryant at his peak was better than any SG currently going, by a wide margin. But counting stats are extremely unimportant on a terrible lottery team, especially seeing as he’s having one of the least efficient seasons of all time.
Kobe hasn’t been close to the best SG in the league this year.
