high floorParticipantBelow are my top 5 offseason rankings for the Eastern Conference front courts:
1. (Heat) Hassan Whiteside – Chris Bosh
2. (Hawks) Dwight Howard – Paul Millsap
3. (Cavs) Tristan Thompson – Kevin Love
4.) (Magic) Nik Vucevic – Serge Ibaka
5.) (Knicks) J Noah – K Porzingis
*Honorable Mention: Detroit (Drummond – Harris), Indiana (Turner – Thad Young)
- Chis Bosh’s health is paramount for this ranking. But their strengths compliment each other greatly.
- I’m betting on Dwight having a mini-bounce back year. He’ll get more touches and offensive rebounding opportunities in Coach Bud’s half court offense. Millsap is a stud.
- They are the champs, and anyone else considered for #3 is less proven.. thus the reasoning for this ranking.
- Vuc & Serge are an interesting combo. The frontcourt is clearly Orlando’s strength.
- Noah was paid a lot this offseason.. but if healthy has a nice opportunity to bounce back with Kristaps. Noah was a very interesting high risk/high reward signing for NY.

festar35ParticipantI take it we aren’t including the SF position in these rankings.
I’m really excited about Indiana’s front-court not only because of Turner’s potential and Thad joining, but Al Jefferson joins in as well.
This really allows Indiana to go against all sort of front-courts with Turner/Young to run, Jefferson/Young for some experience and Jefferson/Turner to match-up with some of the bigger front-courts as well. Not too mention Niang really has the makings of an extremely versatile 4-man on offence.
Orlando also has the luxury of mixing things up with Biyombo, Vucevic, Ibaka and Gordon that is a very diverse group that Vogel could create match-up problem with if used correctly. Personally I would start Ibaka and Gordon to be totally honest I have really started to like the idea of a scoring big man like Kanter (OKC), Jefferson (Indiana) and potentially Vucevic in Orladno off the bench.

OhCanada-ParticipantGood list but as you said Bosh’s health is paramount for this list. Without Bosh they drastically drop. Whiteside is a good player but when matched up with players more physical he tends to shut down a bit. Valanciunas bullied him in the playoffs.

NBAjunkie81ParticipantHoward…… Milsap is a Beast & w/ Howard who is a Legit Rim protector & Rebounder that’s a Nice upgrade for Atlanta
I like what Atlanta did in the Draft also landing Prince & Bembry — but handing the reigns to Schoeder Full time is a lot to ask of a young guy…..
But I think Atlanta has a Great chance to be the #2 team in the Eastern Conference behind the Cavs

Memphis MadnessParticipantDwight Howard is still good, but a bit older. Jury is out on that combo until we see them play.
I like the Porzingas-Noah combo when they are on their game. If both are on top of things, I don’t see many better front court pairings.
Night in and night out, consistently, if they can fit together a bit better, I like Love and Thompson. They both give you a TON of rebounding, with TT being an athletic finisher and shot blocker, and Love being a better all-around scorer, and perimeter shooter. Sure, they lack a ton of size, but the Cavs’ front court duo really, really, really helped the Cavs against the Warriors.
UPSIDE for fun potential, I am gonna go with Embiid and Ben Simmons aka The Pick And Roll of Death.

NBAjunkie81Participantbut Noah is Really broken down….. I have So much respect for Noah — all the way back to college at Florida where Ironically he played w/ Al Horford & just like Paul Milspsp in Atlanta, Noah did All the dirty work, buckled down on Defense, dived for loose balls, Locked down the opposing Big Man, Rebounded like a Demon…….
But all that has really taken a Toll Physically – only 1 full season in 7 years — & Porzingus is Not a Force on the Block…. Porzingus is a Perimeter scorer who will get blocks from behind w/ his crazy length — I Luv Porzingus – don’t misunderstand me — but if Noah can Not stay healthy, the Knicks will have a Hole in the paint b/c that’s just Not Porzingus’ game
& Horford in Boston could be a disaster —- He had Noah at Center at University of Florida & he had Paul Milsap in Atlanta……. Horford was listed at Center but Milsap was the guy in the paint going to War…… Horford really drifted even further out on the perimeter & began shooting 3’s – I give him credit for making a lot of them……
but Atlanta had No Rim Protector — Dwight has Def aged – but even last year he Doubled Al Horford’s Rebound per game total & Dwight is Still a Legit Shot blocker / alterer…… W/ Milsap there to BEast in the middle, that takes So much pressure off Dwight
But what is Horford gonna do in Boston — Boston needed 3 things Badl: 1) 3 pt shooting; 2) Rim Protection; & 3) a scorer IN the paint….. Horford really gives them None of those things….. I thought the C’s should have Signed Sullinger b/c he could have taken the heat off Horford to get down & dirty in the paint…… Ironically, Al Horford Might be Boston’s Best 3-point shooter next year
