Which lottery or mid-first round team do you think is the best fit for Austin Rivers?

I think it might be the Phoenix Suns with their offensive minded uptempo style but if he gets selected before that, maybe New Orleans if they dont re-sign Eric Gordon. I was thinking maybe Utah too. Even though they drafted Alec Burks last year, I think Rivers would be an upgrade at the SG. But I think the Jazz need a PG more and I think they’ll draft Kendall Marshall and I dont think Rivers would be available at their other pick.

Cleveland and Toronto need SG’s too (if Toronto moves Demar DeRozan to SF) but I think they’d take Brad Beal and Jeremy Lamb so I dont think he’d go to one of those two teams either.

Portland Trail Blazers selects Austin Rivers SG Duke

I believe Austin is in the best situation all around even for marketing purposes. For starters Oregon is Nike Mecca. Austin played for Duke who so happens to come out of the Nike factory. Signature shoes all over the state of Oregon, which will fly to the Sunshine state to blossom elsewhere around the country. Brandon Roy NEEDS an heir apparent to carry on his legacy from the SG spot. Jamal Crawford is still there as the 6th man who would not mind at all, to pass on the torch to become the package as the man off the bench, to become a full time starter for the organization after he takes the tutelage. "The curse of knees" will not become a problem for Austin, because I am sure he will be strapped up like car seats with any type of leg equipment, ala Derrick Rose to keep himself fresh.

Playing at Duke under coach K,helped taught Rivers how to play the game the right way..But it didnt allow him to truly display his nba ready game…I think after all the workouts are done, Rivers will be among the Top 5 most sought after prospects…..

for him, primarily for the reasons that Cheyenne listed above.  I think he’d also be a good fit with the Bobcats, because they have absolutely no offense.  That being said, he’s not going to go that high, but maybe if they traded down for two picks, I think he’d be a good fit there.

I think if utah selects him and dosen’t get a PG a Rivers and Burks backcourt could work at times, they both can handle the ball very good.  It would’t be your starters Devin Harris would still start, but you could play these 2 together at times during the game.

If I were Rivers, I can’t think of any lottery team I would rather be on than the Suns. First, of all the current lottery teams, Phoenix has the largest population and thus, the best situation in terms of marketing (Rivers seems like the type of guy who wants to be a household name). Second, Phoenix may not be the  up-tempo team they once were, but Rivers’ game will fit in with Alvin Gentry and the Suns, something I can’t say for the other lottery teams (if Nash decides to stay, then he fits in even more). Finally, on the Suns, Rivers is an instant upgrade at the SG position as he is better than Shannon Brown and what remains of Michael Redd.

I would take him at #7, Austin is a package all by himself. Take Austin at #7 and Perry Jones III at #11.

I forgot to add Portland to the list. Wesley Matthews has been a bit of a disappointment this year and besides LaMarcus Aldridge and Jamal Crawford, they dont really have anyone that can score.

So since they have two picks, and say the draft order stays like it is now, Do you think they’ll select Rivers with their #7 pick or hope he’s still available at the #11 pick?

i have him going to Utah.

think he’s their best pick at their first selection. do i expect him to make the transition to point guard, which is their real need, No. but i do feel that he Alec Burks is better than him in handling the tempo of the game and could play next to him very well. the same could be said about gordon hayward. worst case scenario, they bolster their back-court bench which im expecting to be loosing CJ Miles to free agency this up comming season. I have a feeling Chicago will make a play for him and they could land him by offering the starting 2 position.

the Jazz can also select Marshal at their other lotto pick to get a real point guard and creator.

I like this, but what does Chicago have to offer to get in the top 10 picks of the draft?

those Jazz rejects are contributers to the number one team in the east who dint have their best player at chunks at a time this season.

what kind of player he wants to be… a lot of people thought he was going to develop into a pg at duke but he was more of a scorer there than a distributer…. personally, I think he is still young enough to pick up some of PG skills he would need to play PG in the league and if that is the case then he should go to a young team where he can play lots of minutes like Utah… If he is going to be a scorer then he should go to Portland where he has someone to back him up in crawford and a big man to pass to in LMA…
