I was arguing with my friend about who is the best back up point guard.
You have the obvious candidates like Andre miller , CJ Watson and Goran dragic.
Who do you guys have as the best ?

like i’ve said before, nash and amare are fave players and i always watched the suns. when he backed up nash, he was just as good as he’s this year

Dragic by a mile. He’s a great player and can really fill it up. The only reason why he doesn’t start is because Kyle Lowry is also having a great year. Other great reserves would have to be Mo Williams who can come in and score 20 on any random night with all the open looks he gets. Another is Nate Robinson, yeah he’s playing for the Warriors but he’s been straight ballin this year.

it depends on if you consider jason terry and lou williams back up pg’s. if not then dragic for sure, cj watson’s 37% fg percentage is just too low, even if he does step up in big games. a good way to look at it is to look at their stats per 36 min.

I’m w/ you on Dragic but you lost me…Mo Williams and Jason Terry? They’d be more relevant in a 6th man convo. I wouldn’t want either running my team for an extended period of time.

George Hill? He isn’t a full time PG, but surely he would be up in the conversation.

George Hill was much better in San Antonio, he was a good change of pace player whose game differed from Tony Parker’s but at the same time complimented it so that his abilities were on full display. I would also say about half of the Mav’s bench because they have 2 or 3 guys that CAN play PG but usually fill in at SG instead such as Roddy B, Delonte, Jason Terry, etc.

     Andre Miller

He plays behind a great up and coming point guard in Ty Lawson and still finds some great scoring games

I’m going to consider as a backup point guard you are going to have to play good off the bench, and not just shine when the starters out and they get the chance to shine. So with that, I’d have to go with Andre Miller. He comes off the bench all the time as the 2nd point guard and averages 9 and 6 off the bench. Dragic only averages 7 and 3 when coming off the bench, but just does better when he starts and given the minutes. Focusing on this being a role, you gotta go with Miller. But overall and who I would take as a starter on my team, I’d say Dragic.

very agree with Charlie Sheen :

maynor is the perfect back up pg cause he never minds being sub’ and he always contributes…. helping his team the best and bringing exactly what his team needs. I really like the way he plays : nothing spectacular but very solid (underrated defender, give the ball on the right hands, make the shoot you need)

dragic is a great pg (able to start for lots of team) but will ask for playing time : in my mind he’s not a back up pg.

Watson has been the most important back-up PG this year. Like Van Gundy said the other night, when Rose plays, CJ plays like 9 minutes a game. When Rose is out, he plays like 30-35 a game. He has to be mentally prepared every game since Rose always seems to listed as day-to-day. He has played huge for the Bulls this season.

He has played very well this year.  Well enough, he will earn himself a nice contract (most likely with someone other than the Bulls) this offseason.  He is also playing with a very serious left elbow injury.
