Could I get a scouting report on this guy? He has the size of SG but does he have the skill to play it in the NBA? How is his ball handling? He’s not much of 3pt shooter from what I know. Is he a Tony Allen that will play for +10 yrs or is he just another Fred Jones/Hassan Adams/Jeff Trapagne that will only last a couple of seasons due to great athleticism but lack of proper skills to be a NBA SG?

I wouldn’t go as far as to say Rodney Williams is in the same level as Leslie. Rodney has no skills at all and doesn’t even score in double figures.

Leslie is one of my favorite players to watch, but he’s just one of those college players that is a guard who plays more like a forward.  He might be able to make a squad, because of his freak athleticism, and he reminds me of Stephen and Joey Graham, but the they’re both 6’6” and can play a little SF, Leslie is only 6’4”.

Leslie reminds me more of Shannon Brown or Ruben Patterson minus an inch, but makes up for it with good length and amazing athleticism. I like him but could definitely see him not making it in the league. The Hassan Adams comparison wasn’t a bad one either.  He really needs to extend his range if he plans on lasting though.

    Travis Leslie=Desmond Mason.

And yes, he’s the most athletic player in the draft. He’s one of the best athletes I’ve ever seen too though. And he possesses monster length to top it all off.

Desmond Mason was a very good player at one point I dont know if we can give Leslie that kind of recognition yet but if he reaches his potential then it seems like a great comparison. He will be in the league, athletes like that always get a chance.

I see Travis Leslie as a smaller version of Isma’il Muhammad.

I thought Fred Jones was the perfect comparison because Fred Jones was a freak athlete who also was only 6’4 but he had better ball handling, and shooting ability.

But Leslie does have a feel for the game, and tho he don’t shoot that well he got a nice looking shot.  It wouldn’t surprise me to see him become the next Tony Allen.  I think Leslie is a better athlete then all them players too.

Fred Jones was a player with all the talent in the world, he just never had a take over mentality. It’s honestly quite surprising that he isn’t still in the L. Haven’t heard much from him, but knowing his athleticsim and skill level, he must be doing quite well over there to not have gotten any offers to come back.

As or Mason, I think that would probably be his peak. Des was at one point at the same level as J-Rich, just never kept it together consistently. He was also a jumpshot away IMO.

Fred Jones had all the athletic aability in the world, not quite all the talent in the world although he had some talent. But if you are undersized( Fred was really 6’3 on his best day) and you aren’t a great shooter or defender or able to slide to the point then you are in trouble.

Fred Jones was 6’2 in socks with a 7 foot wingpsan bringing his true heigh value to 6’4.  He was a streaky shooter and turnover prone when he decided to over dribble.  And except the dunk contest i can never remember Mason ever being anywhere near J. Rich.  What makes Richardson, and has always made Richardson so dangerous is his ability to both shoot and slash.

It was reference to the level of players they were. Not quie All-Stars but had near AS numbers. Go back and look at Mason with the sonics when he was actually getting touches, I believe he was around 18 ppg. It’s not like J-Rich is some kind of star or something. I believe he was traded and his attitude killed him from then on.

As for Fred, he was quite the player. No he wasn’t the kind of guy who could go out and break defenses down, but he was the kind of guy who had he been given the touches and offensive responsibilty, could have scored 15-20 a game. His handle was actually pretty sufficient. Comparable to that of Derek Fisher. He just had low hoop I’Q. and a passive mentality. People seem to forget the overall player that Fred had become prior to leaving the L. You know there is a reason that Eric Pincus was always mentioning Fred Jones as Triangle PG. While the tri point doesn’t have to be able to create, he does have to be skilled enough to be a secondary/ or thrid ballhandler and primarily bring the ball up court and set the offense up. Though I do agree Fred had a tendancy to do a little too much sometimes causing for bad decisions.

My bad, 17 ppg. And it was Milwaukee, he was then traded to NOK. Not to mention at the time, J-Rich was still an inconsistent threat from downtown. I wasn’t trying to compare their games. Meerily saying they were both high number role players.

Kind of the way t one point Devean George was at the same level as Richard Jefferson. Doesn’t mean DG was better or even comparible to the player RJ became, just that they were comparable at one point.

    Your not making any sense.

And why do you give yourself a positive point for every post you make?

And you can’t say if this guy got this many touches he would have scored this many points. You can say that about any player in the NBA. theres a reason guys don’t get that many touchs and why they aren’t the focal point of the offense, the team would lose or the player wouldn’t score as much because then teams would focus on that player and game plan for him. A guy that could have put up points like that without being a head case doesn’t struggle to get NBA contracts

Mason’s year with the high scoring number were legit. He had become pretty good with his back to the basket skills and was quite the slasher.

And my point was that at that time, J-Rich, and Mason were at the same level of players. Just the way in 02′ devean George and Richard Jefferson looked like very similar players. Just happened that one made moe of his physical tools with good I.Q. and work ethic. Similar to  Mason who didn’t have the drive to maximize his potential that year showed whereas J-Rich worked his J and developed a knock down 3 ball. That same year he was shooting like 32% from 3, therefore they were similar numbers/impact. That is why I originally said he was at the same level as J-Rich. J wasn’t the 22ppg scorer yet, still around 17. Don’t really know why it was blown so out of proportion really.
