rhamnlacsonParticipantbernard who? the guy is a d leaguer or a bench player at best kind of guy he ahs reached his peak as a player

eazy_peachesParticipantI’m not sure if you realize it, but James served something like 6 years in the United States army. This included overseas tours including Iraq. Although he is certainly a late bloomer (didn’t even play high school ball), he has great size, length, athleticism and defensive instincts.
I see no reason why Bernard James can’t make the NBA as a depth defensive big. With the character and leadership that James is said to bring to the table, it wouldn’t surprise me at all.

surveParticipantWhile he has limited upside, he is a very mature player mentally and physically. He is a lot older than Taj Gibson when Gibson came in the league but I compare the two in the fact that a lot of people slept on Gibson because he was "older" (I believe he was 23) but being old has its advantages too. These are guys who can step in and immediately offer defensive help off the bench and can hit the boards.
James is a Joel Anthony type player who measured 6’10" in shoes with a 7’3" wingspan and 5% body fat. He is very athletic with a high motor. If he doesnt get drafted, which is a big IF…he will make a roster for sure. If you are saying he is a d-leaguer simply because he is 27, you really dont know what you are talking about.

SpacegrassParticipantHe has reached his potential , thats why someone will likely put him on their roster. He is long , athletic , strong , and defensively could help a team like the Heat. Though he has no upside , you don’t have to babysit him or wait for the light to go on for him to grow up. He already is a grown man who will bring character and leadership traits that will help a team along with his defense. Hope this guy gets a shot with someone because he can help someone and he deserves it for sure.

B-ball fanParticipantHis age is an asset, given that he is a 2nd rounder. When teams sign him, they aren’t going to look beyond what they expect to get out of his rookie contract. He is mature physically and will bring leadership, like spacegrass pointed out. I’d rather he came off my team’s bench than a guy like Lance Stephenson or Hassan Whiteside. Just because he likely won’t ever be a starter doesn’t mean he isn’t worthy of a draft pick.

kobyzParticipanti think he definitely will get picked somewhere in the second round, even if it just for the sake of his story!

JoeWolf1I think he’s a summer league player. I think his age will prevent him from being draft, although it’s not un heard of for older players to be draft.
I think he’s a long shot for the NBA, but he’ll get chances in the Summer. IMO he’s a player who will go overseas.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantAge shouldnt matter..I think Mutombo was said to have been 25 at the time he got drafted..But like alot of foreign players, there were rumors that he was older then that…While Bernard isnt on Mutombo’s talent level..I think he can come in and help a team, much quicker than guys that got drafted last year in the 2nd round like Solomon Alabi,Jerome Jordan & Whiteside…And i think he has the potential to be a double figure scorer in a few years…

surveParticipantHe started playing ball when he was 18. Akin to boxing to a certain degree, he is not going to quite have the skill level or IQ as others, but he has fresher legs and is a relatively "young" 27 years old. He also has a developing mid-range game. I am telling you, this guy is good though. He is another Joel Anthony, all he needs is the opportunity….which I believe he will get in the draft. Remember, Anthony didnt get drafted as James is projected to be on most mocks.

ProudGrandpaParticipantHe wasn’t GREAT in college, and that was when he was playing against players who hven’t reached their full potential. Bernard James has, though, so put him in the NBA with fully developed players, and he’s gonna be nothing! He’s only 6’10", anyways, and in 5 years, he will probably be significantly worse

surveParticipantJoel Anthony’s final year at UNLV – 5.2ppg, 4.1rpg, 2.9bpg (37 games)
Bernard James – 10.8ppg, 8.1rpg, 2.3bpg (35 games)
This is in the power ACC….and they won the tourney. FSU has been one of the nations top defensive teams, and James is a reason why.
I think Anthony was like 24 when he came out of college. Its not all about stats, but the Anthony comparison should prove that you cant count anyone out.

A Lil EnglishParticipantMiami could get a lot more use out of him than Dexter Pittman or benchwarmer Eddy.

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipant"Miami could get a lot more use out of him than Dexter Pittman or benchwarmer Eddy."
I could see Miami dealing back a few spots from 27 into the early 2nd and take him. They don’t need long-term prospects. Nobody they can take is going to change the totem pole of LeBron, Wade, and Bosh so the best someone can possibly do is 4th or 5th option. If they can get a good defender under salary control for 3-4 years, then who cares if he will be a 30-31 year old free agent when the rookie deal is up?

surveParticipantexactly…..this is why Miami would be a great fit for him. he is taller and more athletic that Anthony, and although Anthony’s work ethic and motive cant be questioned….James is a guy with a lot of desire to succeed. He is a really high character guy with athleticism and motor to boot. He will definitely have his opportunity….and I think he will make the best of it.
