     So…MIKEYV…you tellin’ me there’s a chance!!!

    http://www.zagsblog.com/2012/05/06/bennett-eliminates-kentucky-down-to-unlv-oregon/

Anthony Bennett is down to two schools.

    UNLV and Oregon.

The 6-foot-7 Findlay Prep forward has eliminated Kentucky and is expected to make a decision within a week or so.

“He really likes Kentucky,” CIA Bounce coaches Tony McIntyre and Mike Georgetold SNY.tv. “He loves what they’re doing there. But Anthony feels it would be a better fit at UNLV or Oregon.

“He likes Oregon and UNLV better. He has a chance to be an immediate impact” at those schools.

The coaches said Bennett is expected to announce by the “end of this week.”

Bennett on Friday eliminated Florida and cut his list to three, also indicating that he wanted a chance to play major minutes and that Bradley Beal’s departure for the NBA Draft played a role.

    Now, he’s down to two.

Bennett visited UNLV last week with his mother and thoroughly enjoyed the visit.

“He loved the staff,” Findlay assistant Todd Simon told SNY.tv. “He connected well with them. His friend Khem Birch is on the team.”

Bennett and Birch are both Canadian and would give UNLV a potential future pro frontcourt should they team up.

Bennett also took an unofficial to Oregon around the Nike Hoop Summit and the Ducks remain a strong option.

Oregon is also involved with Chris Obekpa, who is also considering Cincinnati, St. John’s, Providence and DePaul.

The Ducks hope they land at least one of these forwards soon.

Im very happy for Unlv. They have a great program and staff and have always been very involved with all levels of Baskedtball within Nevada. Unlv getting two top prospects is long overdue.

I hope he picks Oregon just so he makes me look smart because I predicted he’d go there over a month ago. With UNLV there is a better team and a better coach, but with the Ducks he’ll get more immediate playing time because won’t have to contend with Moser and Birch there. Should be interesting to see where he ends up going.

Don’t you guys think this only helps Kentucky with Amile Jefferson?

Also UNLV is slowly coming back and will have two McDonald’s All Americans on their roster next year (Khem Birch transferred there), and just imagine if they had gotten Shabazz too…

Been a very different type of recruitment. He really never showed his hand fully. For a while, people thought he was a Florida lean, than they are out. I always thought he had Kentucky written all over him, now they’re gone. You know what this means, right? He is torturing us Duck fans and going to UNLV, lol.

Seriously, both schools are fantastic choices for him. The Ducks have had guys in Anthony Bennett’s build over the years that have had fantastic early success. Altman will love his size and ability to stretch the floor.

With that being said, we have seniors in the front court in Tony Woods, Carlos Emory and EJ Singler. Sure, Bennett will get his minutes, but UNLV seems to have a spot waiting for him with Mike Moser and Khem Birch (who is a fellow Canadian) when he becomes eligible.

Every time Bennett talked about Oregon, he seemed to light up. Dominic Artis was his PG this past season and they would both be immediate impact guys for the Ducks. Nonetheless, when I look at the roster breakdown, I can’t help but feel he might choose the Runnin’ Rebels. Will say one more thing, if he does choose UNLV, he passes the look test for Larry Johnson. May not be the same type of talent, but he will make an immediate impact at either school.

Anthony’s grades might indeed be an issue and that UNLV has the lower qualification standards. Do not know if this is true, but I remember people buzzing about this at the Hoop Summit. Bennett has taken no official visits and his recruitment has been very different. He is not the only one in this situation, as I believe that a number of uncommitted recruits are considering prep years or may be in a similar state to Bennett. Again, don’t know if this is absolutely the case, but it seems like one highly possible scenario. Not to mention one that would make UNLV the likely landing spot.

As far as Chris Obekpa is concerned, have heard that Cinci and Mick Cronin are all over him. He was supposed to come to Eugene, but never made the trip. Heard he looked pretty good playing at some AAU showcases, know he is a raw offensive player who has definite shot blocking ability. Would be a great grab for the Ducks, but it seems he is likely to stay in Big East territory.

I hope he goes to UNLV. Its killed me when they lost to Duke in 92, I would love to see them comeback to high profile status. LJ was a great player he always seemed like until he injured his back anyway, that he was really having fun. He talked trash and all those UNLV boys had a swagger. Its too bad that he hurt his back in NBA. Bennet would really have to polish his post moves to LJ but he has similar body and explosivness. I think he will be a one and done wherever he goes. I know his cousin I know he wants to take care of moms. Bennett, Birch, and Moser can match up with any frontline in America.

I really don’t like what I see Kentucky fans doing to Bennett on twitter.  It’s beyond childish and ignorant…

Kid RT’d every statement.  This definitely puts Kentucky fans in a different light.

That is really sad, feel bad for Anthony Bennett with having to put up with this garbage. This reflects badly on all fans, though I am guessing that UK players, coaches and fans with any dignity would not approve of this. Twitter is getting out of control with all of this trash talking, it just makes the people doing it look ridiculous.

Kentucky just won a national championship! They are doing well! Just because this kid decides not to go there, he is making a mistake? Not everyone can go to your school, deal with it. Wish them the best and be happy with the recruits you have.

The sad thing is, it is not only Kentucky fans that do this. It is every school that loses out on a huge recruit. I am sure Oregon fans have done the same thing and I just think it is a terrible reflection on the school. I make it a point to try and leave kids alone. As a Duck fan, I was ecstatic to have Anthony Bennett make us one of his two finalists. If he does not choose us, so what? I wish him the best, regardless.

You do not have to love his choice, you can root against him, but why tell him the things these people on twitter are spouting? Stop following him and move on. You do not know this kid or his situation. You are not loving your school more by doing this.

Chances are, if Kentucky basketball players saw you or you told them about this, they would likely renounce you as a fan. Just freaking pathetic. I urge people to stop bashing recruits over the internet. It is incredibly petty and reflects badly on your school when you do so. I know not all Kentucky fans are like this, but my guess is that if this keeps up, more people will be promoting the stereotype of these Twittidiots.

Definitley true.  I am a big Kentucky fan, but I am not the least bit angered toward him. In a way I think it is good that he is not going to the school that everyone else goes to and he is making his own path. I don’t think i would even go to Kentucky even though they are my favorite just because everybody else goes there. Plus I think if you are that upset with him not joining us, I think it shows that you are doubting our current recruiting class and next years team. I do hope we do get Amile Jefferson, but either way i will be happy. We just won the damn championship. Be happy. Goodwin and Poythress are going to be HUGE next year. Trust me.
