Ben Gordon signed a contract to play in the D-League and the Legends acquired him off waivers. Gordon wants to return to the NBA.
I saw him play live this past summer in the EuroBasket Qualification tournament playing for England and he barely looked like a pro basketball player let alone NBA player. He was the worst player on the floor by a landslide. He was slow, couldn’t shoot or make it to the rim, made a lot of travels, offensive fouls and very bad decisions, not to mention his jaw dropping bad passes and low IQ plays, he looked like someone who plays the sport for the first time in his life. Somehow he managed to put up good assist numbers in the game (also in the tournament) – ended up with 7 or 8, which suprised me as I thought he had about 1 or 2, because those weren’t exactly assists just passes and his teammates made baskets fortuitously from those, thanks to his coach, who used him frequently, despite the fans chanting to bench him.
There is a reason he didn’t received a contract from even a low-tier overseas team (he waited for that until now), as he wasn’t much better on the other games either.
May he was still rusty – although it wasn’t his first game back in the action – but it was amazing to see a once 20 ppg NBA ‘star’ fall so deep. An amateur-senior team coach sitting next to me said Gordon wouldn’t even make his team…
At the end England advanced from an extremly weak group, but there’s a good chance Gordon wore that uniform for the last time.
