Name some guys in college that you thought would be really good NBA players but ended up the opposite.

Jelani McCoy– I thought he was surefire because of his shot blocking ability and the fact that he seemed to have a mean streak.

James Forrest– I think Forrest’s NBA stock was seriously hurt when GT got screwed out of making the tourney his last year.  Some may say he was undersized, for those who remember him, he was almost identical in height and weight to Paul Milsap.

I thought Jamareo Davidson would be at least a solid starter with some added polish, Yi Jianlian i thought would be a all-star caliber 4 with sum time, Also thought that David Harrison would be at least serviceable in the league. Oh and Lawrence Roberts i think led the SEC in scoring an didn’t stick around the league long.

I thought Jarvis Hayes would be a pretty solid NBA player, even an occasional all-star.

Childress was a great guard at Wake Forest. Tim Ducan was just a big guy running the floor when he played with Childress.Could not stick in the league. Great Handle and Good Shooter. Dont know what happened.

CHRIS JACKSON (LSU) Had a solid NBA career, could have be a star.  One the most unstoppable collegiate players ever. Tremendous Shooter. SHAQ was just a rebounder and shot blocker when he played with Jackson. Thats how good Jackson was.

Lawrence Moten- The Big East all-time leading Scorer. Mr. Smooth himself. Could not get off in the NBA. I definitely thought he would put in Work.

Iku Diagu was a guy who made a big impact the second he stepped on the college court.  I thought he would at the very least be a career starter, but a guy who had All-Star potential.

Moten and Childress both could put the ball in the hole.  In Moten’s case it was his athleticism.  In Childress’ case, he wasnt an explosive athlete either but probably what hurt him most was injuries and the fact that he was a 6’2" shoot-first PG.

I don’t think the book should be closed on James Johnson just quite yet.  He showed some promise when he got some time at Toronto dropping about 9 pts 5 rbs 1 blk 1stl per game.  I think he has defensive potential, he’s not really polished offensively, but he’s long athletic and is a really good shot blocker for a forward. I bet he starts all year for the Raptors next season.

You can’t count Laettner, he was an All-Star and despite a drop off of production due to injury he still had over 10,000 career points and a career scoring average of almost 13 ppg.

I thought that Miles Simon would at least make the NBA.  He was great on that Arizona title team and I thought should have been a solid NBA player for several years at least.  Bibby and Jason Terry made it, but Miles Simon didn’t for some reason.

I used to love Salim Stoudamire, at Arizona and for the Hawks. Mike Woodson hated him and I don’t think anyone on the Hawks liked playing with him though lol. He was weird, cocky, and introverted. But you talk about a PURE jump shot? WHAT? I went to a bunch of Hawks games during his time there, and I literally saw him miss 2 times during shootarounds before games and during halftime. TWICE! His jump shot was a thing of beauty, I used to try and shoot like him in middle school. He had a ridiculously quick release, CRAZY range, he was a lefty, AND he got great elevation. And he was fearless, and more quick and athletic than I thought. He had some nice dunks when he got to the pros and slimmed down. I miss watching that guy play, he was fun to watch as a shooter.

Also, who remembers Eddie Robinson?? That guy was a freak athlete, and he had great size on the wing.

Eddie Griffin – Averaged 17.8 PPG, 10.8 RPG and 4.4 BPG as an 18 year old freshman at Seton Hall. I thought he would be an all-star.

Bryant Reeves – Three straight very good seasons for the Sooners ended in 1995 with him averaging over 21 PPG and leading OSU to a final four appearance. Did very little in the NBA though despite showing some promise in his first few years.
