Time to face the facts…the Hype Machine’s getting old and is no longer up to date with all the best basketball kicks.

And since half this forum is old-school, and half is new-school I was hoping to get some advice on the best pair of kicks going around now, in addition to your favourite pair of retro-sneakers since you can still buy most of them online.

If you’ve got any other advice – eg the best website to buy them, or your favourite sneaker store, best colorway, brands to avoid etc… feel free to pitch in.

For what it’s worth, my favourite oldschool sneakers are: Reebok Blast

    Currently wearing; Melo’s M10s

Favorite shoes back when I was a kid are the Air Jordan XX and adidas T-Mac shoes. Right now, I’m alternating from Lebron XI and Adidas Rose 3. I haven’t bought a new one in the last 2 years or so but I’m planning to go back to adidas when I do plan to buy one. I usually buy shoes in Adidas or Nike store nearby since I don’t really buy stuff online. As said above, If you live outside US, like myself, never buy shoes online.

I’m fairly young, the first bball shoes I can really remember playing in back in middle school were the Nike Hurache 2k4 and 5’s, I loved those shoes back then, I even bought a pair of the 2k5 a few years back but was really a fan since I had become a low top shoe guy.

The Kobe line is one of my favorites, I can remember when the Kobe 4 was coming out they were the first major lowtop basketball shoe and they were for the top brand for their top signature athlete, a major risk at the time, but give Kobe credit, he knew that low tops in basketball could work. I got a pair just to wear casually because we already had team shoes, but I really loved them and played in them one day and from there I stick mainly to low tops. The Kobe 4-6’s are probably my favorite shoes, I wore the hell out of those, I wish I still had them. I had the 4’s in the team USA with gold, the 5’s in black with white and yellow and the 6’s in just a blue with white. I’ve not really liked the main Kobe shoes lately like the 9-11’s but his other non signature shoes, the mentality and venomon are also pretty good. However, Nike just released the 11’s with and upper mesh material so I’m probably going to get those and they’re also already fairly cheaper.

I haven’t tried any of the other top line Nike shoes from LeBron, Durant or Kyrie, and I’ve heard mixed things about those lines. I have a couple pair of hyperdunks, which are your standard team shoe. The 2014 and 2013 are both solid shoes. The 2014’s in the Kyrie PE colorway are maybe my best looking shoes currently. I didn’t get the 2015 since I didn’t like what they did with it, I couldn’t tell ya if they are any good, but I haven’t heard great thing, but am considering getting the low top versions. I think you can still find the 2013 and 14 online at retail stores or ebay for fairly cheap.

Currently my favorite shoe I’m using is the nike hyperrev 2015 in the allstar colorway, great great shoe, still available, I would recomend big time. I don’t like the new 2016 hyperrev’s since they are a hightop. But yea I would say get Nike hyperrev 2015. I have 4 other shoes I’m currently playing in and rotating through.

I just ordered a pair of the Way of Wade 4’s from ling nig, it’s my 2nd non nike basketball shoe I’ve had. I’m really excited to try them out. They’re not for sale at regular retailers, but you can find them at like the nba store or fanatics online plus some other online non us stores that will ship. They’re also pretty pricey, but I’ve heard only good things about them, plus I’ve never seen anyone in them in person.

My other non nike shoe I got were the Curry 1’s from Under Armour in the low top. I HATED them, just not a fan of the matiriels used, no flexability, killed my feet. I was lucky I was able to return them and get my money back.

I’ve never owned a pair of Jordan’s, but the 29 lows really have my interest and I might buy a pair soon. I’m white, so I would just feel wierd in Jordan’s as I don’t really fit that kinda style.

I’ve had some interest in getting some retro 90’s shoes like the Penny’s or the nike zoom flights but I’m afraid they’re just not as good performers as the current shoes are. Some look pretty cool, but I don’t usually wear basketball shoes outside of playing.

I think in generall the higer priced Nike signature shoes aren’t as great as their more budget friendly shoes, that’s what I’ve heard.

All-time the black on black suede hurrache 2k4 is the best shoe I’ve hooped in…nothing else has really come close

Currently running in the KD trey five III nerf colorway or the Jordan super.fly 4 (Blake Griffin’s) both are really good shoes

Kobe 8’s are my favorite hoop sneaker of all-time. Very light, little to no break-in time, low to the ground (less likely to sprain ankle), great support, great traction, breathable, . Hard to find good deals now that they are a few years old…

The only pair I have is a pair of Jordan Melo M11s but I would love to have any pair of Nike Foamposites. Big Penny Hardaway fan here.
