in all the Linsanity no one is talking about how baron Davis was supposed to have been back. Also he was the Knicks original savior at pg. Now it seems like he doesnt even want to return to play.

Yeah thats a good point you bring up.  If he does come back is he really going to be happy playing 10-12 mins a game.  And with JR coming on board thats even more of a logjam in the backcourt even though JR is at the 2.

BDiddy is a shell of what he once was… Although he did have some great years with the Hornets/Clippers… For some reason (maybe the multiply knee surgeries) he never really reached his full potential… Now with Super Lintendo at PG, I’d say the writing is on the wall for BD, and unfortunately it says RETIRE!

BD’s return is why I think JR should start.  The Knicks have an interesting enough team to not go just starters unit/bench unit now.  I’d love to see the Chandler/Fields/Lin/Novak unit with any of Melo, Amare or JR get some major run, and I think Baron would go well with Amare/Jefferson/Shumpert/JR.  Obviously this would be fluid, but I like the way those guys games go together in theory.

Watching Baron Davis play with the Cavs last year, even for just 15 games was the highlight of the year. Although he is not the palyer he once was, it was clear that his play made the other players on the team better. The Cavs only won 19 games all season, but behind Baron Davis’ strong play we were 5-6 in his last 11 games with us.

Baron is not a washed up scrub, he is a declining "has been".

I don’t think he is done, and I feel that in D’Antoni’s offense, had he gotten a chance, he would have had 15 and 7.

With that being said, he is a fringe starter on most other teams, but I have no clue why the Lakers aren’t making any effort what so ever to get ANY other point guard. I would much rather have BDiddy back there than Fish, even if Davis puts up 10 and 4 while shooting 40% from the field. If Baron can play the way he did last season, which is still at a stater’s level, than the Knicks would be imensly deep in the back court, however I feel really weary if the Knicks are going into Miami with Jared Jeffries, and Steve Novak at the 3 and 4 with Chandler. Their best bet is to flip Douglas or Shumpert for some frontcourt help. Would say a Utah take a Millsap for Shumpert and Douglas trade? Probably not. But naybe Orlando might jump on a Shumpert for "Big Baby" deal. I don’t know, but the Knicks need to get just a bit more frontcourt depth while still maintaing the depth they have in the backcourt, and they’ll be fine. I feel great knowing that my depth looks sort of like this.

PG Lin 36 min, BD 12 min

SG Fields 24 min Smith 24 min

SF Anthony 36 min Fields/Smith 12 min(I would rather have Fields getting more of those minutes at the three, but we’ll see how Smith does.

    PF Amare 24 Novak/Jeffries 24

    C Chandler 36 Amare 12

This is just a rough sketch, but this is how it’ll probably look. If they really can move Shumpert and DOuglas for some frontcourt help, maybe a team might even want Novak in the deal also, than that would be great for them.

    I’ve got a little problem aamir…

how do you think you can build a TEAM if you move your roster every day ?You don’t necessarly need a trade to perform better.

you need to be steady and build on the strength of your players : schumpert, novak, fields, harrelson, jeffries, walker and lin ALL proved they can be valuable for their team IF you use their strengths correctly and teach them how to play as a team (chemistry, solidarity, devotion…).  They all can be complementary pieces to their chandler/amare/melo central trio.

but you need time to do that and don’t break your roster every day.

^I agree, and I really like Douglas’ and Shumpert’s potential(expecially Shumert’s defensive potential), and I agree it would be in their best interest to keep them both, I was just going through hypotheticals to make the team as good as it could be in the moment, like you would do in 2k12. I do understand that long term it would be wise to keep this core of young guys and try to develop them, but let’s just say that Utah started falling out of the playoff race, and realized that they will get Golden State’s mid-late lottery pick, so let’s say they have they predict that they’ll have the 11th and 9 or 8thth pick, and they’re eyeing a big, and Jared Sullinger is still there at 7or 8th, maybe they can get Sully and John Henson, but they have a logjam at the 4 and they need a point for the future, so they can flip Millsap for Douglas, Shumpert, and maybe Jeffries to make the Salaries work. It’s not the most longterm situation for the Knicks, but they get another solid stud in Millsap and still have great backcourt depth.

Wait, What the hell am I saying? Utah doesn’t need anymore frontcourt help, they have Favors, Kanter, and Jefferson, they need more wing players that can both Knock Down the shot and drive and penetrate, in addition to Guards

A second unit with Bill Walker, JR Smith, and Shumpert led by Baron Davis is explosive and athleic enough to remind Baron Davis of his Golden State Warriors days. I would use those 4 off the bench to go ultra small with Harrelson, Novak, or Jeffries at the other spot.

    chandler / jeffries / harrelson

    stoudamire / harrelson – novak

    anthony / smith – fields / walker

    fields / smith / schumpert – douglas

    lin / davis / schumpert – douglas / bibby

here is the roster…. if you really want to make a move, just a little one, you can try to land a defensive back up big man and free some space in your backcourt. Douglas seems to be the one without any possibility to get playing time IF (big if) davis can play the ball…. steimsma, gustavo ayon could be the kind of player you’d target.

But personaly I won’t make any move, cause we don’t know what davis can really bring (shape ? will to be behind lin ?….), bibby seems to be useless (to stay polite) and lin has LESS than 10 strating games behind him (what is his durability ?…).
