festar35ParticipantTo me Harrison Barnes is proving to be a very good stretch-4 in this new era of NBA basketball. He is OK at the 3 spot but is no doubt better as a 4. Now with that said I look at this Mavs teams and think losing maybe a blessing.
Dirk as all guys who have played forever in this league appears to be catching that injury bug and outside of that they dont really have any great talent outside of Barnes.I really think that Dallas with a poor season could be in for a quick rebuild with Barnes and potentially a top 5 pick in a draft with a lot of nice PG’ s and wings in Jackson, Tatum and Isaac.
How do you think DALLAS should look to play out the season?

festar35ParticipantI forgot too mention the other youngsters on the roster in Anderson who is showing awesome potential as a 3-D wing (Kind of like Matthews), Seth Curry who could be a nice scorer off the bench and Powell who has heaps of potential due in big part to his athleticism.
They also have another pick owed to them by via Nuggets/Grizz.0 - Posted on: Sun, 11/06/2016 - 10:09pm #1088101

Anton123ParticipantDO the Dallas Maverics actually have someone’s first round pick? All the info I can find just says the Nuggets get the Grizzlies pick and Dallas gets nothing.
This is a genuine question, I really want to know.

Andv1 WaitingParticipantbasketball.realgm.com/nba/drafts/future_drafts/detailed
copy and paste this where you type web addresses. It should bring up all the picks owed both incoming and outgoing.
Hope this helps.

Anton123ParticipantObviously I’ve chacked out RealGM.
So the original poster was just mistaken and there’s nothing I’ve missed, the Maverics don’t have anyone’s first round pick. I was confused because the site’s mock also has the Grizzlies pick going to Dallas for some reason.

Andv1 WaitingParticipantWhat to do:
Tank this year for as high a pick as possible and maybe the next…
Trade D-will for future first round pick or any slightly promising youth you can get.
Keep Bogut and Barnes. See if you can get bogut to re up for a reasonable price next season.
Wesley Matthews-Either keep him if there is nothing better on the market anytime soon or See what you can get for him as a contender may offer up something due to him only having two more seasons left after this one.. Or someone might offer either some youth or a pick. Philly would be someone to keep an eye on maybe Noel could be had…
Keep Justin Anderson,Curry and Powell
Rest Dirk as much as possible and try get him one last quality run next season or season after that if he doesn’t mind resting for the next one as well…
Then make a run at the best available PF,SF(if you move barnes to the PF),SG and PGs either via the draft or Free agency:
Players you could target realistically $ Wise: You could go after next offseason
Gordan Hayward and either play him at SF/SG and have Barnes play PF/SF ,
Jeff Teague-if he has a down year with pacers could be had for Cheap…
Danillo Gallinari-But I would like him on OKC if he could stay healthy personally lol
or
Ibaka if you don’t bring back Bogut..
This at least gets you back on the right path for either Dirks last run or a partial rebuild like Dallas seems to mainly do..

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantBarnes has actually looked really good to start the season. He is taking on a bigger offensive role than most anticipated he would. The mavs are actually running isolation plays for him and he looks comfortable creating his own shot, which is something he rarely ever did in golden state. Who knows if he’ll be able to remain consistent throughout the season but the early results are promising.
As far the mavs go, I really think there is too much pride on this team to straight up tank. Even though they got off to a terrible start, they are still a well-coached team with a lot of veteran players. I wouldn’t say it’s out of the question for them to get back into playoff contention. Barring a bunch of long-term injuries to key players or a complete roster blow-up, I don’t see this as a team that is designed to tank.

HitsterParticipantDallas have not had a high lottery pick for years and this could be the year that it might benefit them from going to lottery. They could have a lot of cap space next season if they don’t take up the option on Dirk and might look to rebuild around Barnes, Matthews and Powell. Dirk could easily play on another year or two and might even accept a new lesser deal to give the team extra cap space.
D-Will and Bogut both expire this season and could move on, Bogut would have trade value if Dallas were out of contention come deadline time. If Bogut sees out the year in Dallas, he could well resign, he has his title so doesn’t need to chase a ring and would be a good mentor for a young big. D-Will I’d assume would probably look to get on a contender as a top bench player.
Dallas have a decent core to rebuild around and have several title winners on the roster and a title winning coach so would be an interesting option for a good FA and a great landing spot for a top draft pick.
I could see Dallas taking one of the young PGs if they got a high pick and getting them in place and building from there.
Dallas own all their first rounders but don’t have any due to them, so Donnie Nelson has a fairly blank canvas if he wants to pull any deals.
Thanks to Andy1 for the great link about who owns what picks – Boston, Utah, Philly and Phoenix all have some nice first rounders due – Brooklyn and the Kings both could lose good picks in the next few years.
