It’s moves like that which make me scratch my head about him not playing the PF on a full-time basis. He’s much more effective when he’s a little lighter and quicker at the 4. Hopefully he gets to pair up with Valanciunas at some point, because once Jonas matures his playstyle will compliment Bargs quite well.

Really the reason he has been slotted in as playing there for most of the time he has been in Toronto. Honestly, even if he plays PF, the guy HAS to become at least some factor on the defensive glass. The truth is, Dirk is an equally bad rebounder, on the offensive glass. He and Andrea grab incredibly few offensive rebounds, more than likely due to them being more perimeter oriented. The key with Dirk was, he became a proficient defensive rebounder, to the point of being amongst the leagues top 10 in that category for 9 straight years (starting in 2000-01, his third year in the league). Dirk has dropped off slightly in that category, especially with the addition of Shawn Marion to take some of the load off, but he is still at least not a liability. Bargnani is, big time.

Andrea needs to step up his work on the boards to be considered anything you want at either Center or PF. As of right now, though, he has shown little hope at becoming a proficient rebounder or willing defender. I know he got rebounds against BYU, but that still does not give you much hope. His rebounding went down last year when given more responsibility and a role. Honestly, if Bargnani and Valanciunas played together, I think it would be a disaster. Valanciunas seems like a decent rebounder now, but wait until he gets to the NBA. He will be a better rebounder than Andrea on both ends, but I still think he will be pushed around on the glass in the early stages. Do the Raptors really want to stick around and wait for that, while still having Andrea as a defensive liability?

Optimally, he would go and play with Dwight Howard taking on the role of Rashard Lewis. You need to have him on a team with an established rebounder, and hopefully defender. Milwaukee would also not be a bad fit, a healthy Bogut and Bargnani would be interesting. But, I for one think the Raptors should trade Andrea before Valanciunas gets to town. While Ed Davis does not have Andrea’s talent as an offensive player, he makes up for it with his defensive potential and willingness to rebound. I would just cut our losses, try to get a few rotation guys and expiring contracts and hope to build on the future through the draft.
