doubledribblerParticipantI expect there to be a short list for this topic. Not that many guys are good with their back to the basket. Some of the better back to the basket guys really are not great players like Leon Powe. The best is probably Tim Duncan. Yao has a nice touch around the rim. I don’t think Shaq has enough post moves and he is not as dominant as he used to be around there.

JoeWolf1In the 95′ Finals Hakeem schooled a young Shaq in how to be a back to the basket post player, Shaq had the power, but Hakeem had the shake, fade away, and more back to the back post moves than I’ve seen in a post player, It’s kind of a lost art really. Yao has a variety of moves, but still has a lot of face up game and wouldn’t really be considered a back to the basket player, but a balanced post player. Hakeem gets my best vote of all-time, just because he had so many moves although he could face up and shoot. Current player is Tim Duncan, Shaq was always more powerful, but i’ve seen him miss too many point blank hooks(granted in his prime he got the rebound and dunked it back in) but from a skill level Duncan.

BadBoysParticipantJermaine O’Neal was and could still be solid with his back to the basket.
Kevin Garnett has some nice post moves and turn around jumper.
Al Jefferson…would have been nice to see how his back to the basket game would have improved with McHale as the coach.

OrangeJuiceJonesParticipantTim Duncan is the best back-to-the-basket power forward today. I wish more players would stay in school and develop their game like Duncan did. He was projected as a lottery pick after his sophomore year, but did he leave? No, he stayed and improved his draft stock, unlike Robin Lopez, Spencer Hawes, JaVale McGee and Patrick O’Bryant just to name a few.

OrangeJuiceJonesParticipantAnd why does this site keep deleting my Stephen A. Smith pictures? Totally unnecessary.
