Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantJust got done reading the ESPN articles where their analysts say who will win each award and wanted to get some feedback on the site. Who do you guys think will win each award?
MVP: Kevin Durant – I like LeBron James but I don’t see him winning three in a row. I think this is when Durant finally wins it. With Westbrook out on an unstable timetable and no Kevin Martin / James Harden off the bench, Durant is going to have full control of a team for a few months and he will continue to play big after Westbrook comes back. We saw KD average 32-10-6 after Westbrook went down with an injury, and that was against good defenders. (Parsons, TAllen, Prince). I think he can put up similar numbers throughout the regular season.
Rookie of the Year: Victor Oladipo – I think this one is pretty simple, what other talented player has this much control over a team? McLemore isn’t a top-4 player on his team, Noel is out for the year, Bennett might not even start. Porter and Zeller aren’t exactly ready to be ROYs and they are playing with pretty good players (Wall, Jefferson, Beal, Kemba).
Defensive Player of the Year: Dwight Howard – Is it really a question? Even when Marc Gasol won DPOY last season, he wasn’t on the All-Defensive 1st Team. This season, Dwight has a new team with a few defensive specialists (Asik, Beverley and Brewer) and a few players that are tough-nosed defenders (Garcia, Smith, Parsons). The Rockets team defense should shine as well as Howard’s healed back.
Coach of the Year: Doc Rivers – Rivers should lock up a #1 seed in the WC this season with a stacked roster, a deep bench, and, of course, a Top-3 player in the L and the best on-court coach. The Clippers are going to be much better than they have been and should be better defensively. If they make it to the Finals, it will be because of Rivers and if they don’t, it’s because of the players. No pressure at all.
Sixth Man: Jamal Crawford – As I mentioned, a deep bench for the Clippers and it is led by scoring spark-plug Jamal Crawford. With this newfound bench, there must be a scorer that tries to score at will to open up the game for the other players, and that man is Crawford. He’s going to have the greenest of green lights and he’s going to light up L.A. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up being their leading scorer.
Most Improved: Anthony Davis – What’s the difference between actually improving or getting more playing time? Well, we’re about to find out. It seems as if Anthony Davis and Eric Bledsoe are going to make this a two-man race but I think Davis take the cake. Not only will Davis put up better numbers, he will be on a team that is vying for a playoff seed, and might just get it.
Eastern Conference Champions: Miami Heat – I literally wrote a full analysis backing my stance that the Heat would win the Eastern crown. I then deleted it and wrote a few sentences on why the Pacers will win it. I then deleted that and wrote another full analysis on why the Bulls would take it. Now I’m back with the Heat. Injuries, old supporting cast, and the lack of defensive interior bigs made me change my mind of few times, but two words brought me back to point A. LeBron. James.
Western Conference Champions: L.A. Clippers – Tough call here. As I can see multiple teams coming out of the West. I wouldn’t mind seeing the Spurs, Thunder, Rockets, Grizzlies, or Warriors here though; I just think the bench, line-up, coaching, and stars have finally aligned for the Clippers to take that next step. They’ll be a much improved defensive team and Doc Rivers will have this team in great form to contend.
NBA Champions: Miami Heat – Okay, okay, I took the easy way out. I could have been bold and gone with another team but I didn’t. LeBron James is the best player in the world. Wade might be the best second option in the L. Bosh might just be a top-3 third option in the NBA. They also have a bolstered lineup that includes a former 2nd overall pick and 1st overall pick that are trying to put their careers together. Let’s not forget veterans like Andersen, Haslem, Battier, and Allen. Norris Cole has improved so much as a defensive specialist and shooter that we may see him become the starter mid-season and subsequently Chalmers’ option is not picked up. They have a special thing going. And three is the charm.

Chilbert arenasParticipantWanted to go out on a limb on most of these. Not saying these will happen but it’s possible and I’d love to see them happen.
MVP- Chris Paul, I think Clippers will have best record in the league and he’s going to average 20pts, 12, ast. Not mind blowing
ROY- Oladipo, he’s going to have all the opportunity in the world, Cavs will be regretting passing on him for Bennett. Zeller will be a closer second than people might think but in a weak rookie class it doesn’t mean that much.
DOP- Ibaka, OKC is going to be missing Westbrook and don’t have that 3rd option on offense that they’re accustom to so I believe they’re really going to have to lock down on a defense anchored by Serg. He’ll lead the league in blocks and top 3 in rebounds. I’m not saying I think he should win, but we all know it’s going to a big man.
Sixth man- Reggie Jackson, hear me out now.. At this point OKC doesn’t have a 3rd scoring option with Martin and Harden gone. Lamb isn’t quite ready yet to carry the load. Jackson can play either guard position due to his length size ball handling, and improving range . Stepped up in the playoffs when Russ went down and will have confidence boosted in the first few weeks Westbrook is out.
Coach- Marc Jackson, he’ll have the Warriors as a top 4 seed and could have won it last year so voters will give him the nod.
Most Improved: Deandre Jordan, This one is always the hardest because it has to come from left field. I think Jordan is going to benefit the most from having Doc running the show in Clipper land and will be much more effective defensively, rebounding, and he’s clearly in the best shape of his career.
East: Bulls, Rose is on a mission and I think Wade is finally going to run out of gas this year.
West: Clippers, the team is as deep as they come and Doc will have them clicking on all cylinders when it counts.Champs: Bulls

TomShoeParticipantMVP – LeBron James. Who else? Barring a ridiculous season for Derrick Rose or Kevin Durant, this award is basically his to lose. He’s the best player in the game no question.
ROY – Kelly Olynyk. Ok. I’ll admit, this is a REALLY bold prediction. These are just predictions, so why not go all out? As much as I love Home ‘Dipo, Kelly Olynyk’s combination of touch around the basket and size is going to make him difficult to guard in the NBA. A true Luis Scola 2.0, if we ever saw one. He’s still going to get torched on D and barely rebound, but who watches defensive highlights, anyway? Not like the Celtics are going to be that fun to watch, anyway.
DPOY – Dwight Howard. Again, just like LeBron, this title is Howard’s to lose. We’ll finally see some of his defense shine now that his back issues are gone, and he’s not playing with the equivalent of turnstiles on defense. Lin and Harden, while not great defenders, are competent in their own right, and Beverley can be downright ball-hawkish when he wants to. A chain is as strong as it’s weakest link, and Howard will be that much stronger.
6OY – What the hell, I’m feeling saucy today. Vince Carter. I’m sure everybody’s getting their torches and pitchforks ready by now, but Carter’s been an underrated sixth man on the Mavs for quite a while now. He’s deserves some recognition, although I’m sure either Jamal Crawford or Reggie Jackson will get it.
COY – Doc Rivers. Everybody hop on the hype train! While Pop is still the best coach in the game IMO, It’s been common thought that the Clippers haven’t gotten to the WCF because of their lack of a competent coach, hence the firing of VDN. It’s a win-win for Rivers, if they make the WCF, it’s because of Rivers. If they don’t, it’s because of the players.
Tank Job of the Year – Philadelphia 76ers. Yes, it already looks bad. You know they’re going to suck when Evan Turner of all people is their #1 option on offense. I know it’s going to get worse. Thaddeus Young is probably going to get traded sometime during the season, and Turner may be gone once they gauge his value as well. Believe me, we’ve still got a long way to go before we hit rock bottom.
East Champs: Indiana Pacers. It’s a close one, for sure. If the Heat draw the Bulls in the 2nd round, I think the Heat will win in 7, but it will be a VERY close affair. That means they’ll have to face Roy Hibbert, whom they had no answer for in the post. I doubt they’ll be able to survive that one even with Oden in tow. The role players, especially Wade have started to get old.
West Champs: San Antonio Spurs. Let’s be clear, the Western Conference is a freaking GAUNTLET this year. Whoever comes out of the West will have done so in incredibly brutal fashion. There are 5 or 6 teams that could potentially win the West this year. I had to pick the Spurs because they have the least amount of questions on their roster, and until someone proves me wrong, they’re still the best in the West.
NBA Champs: Spurs def. Pacers in 5 games in the most brutal and mind-numbingly boring Finals we’ve ever seen. Furious ABC execs pound on Silver’s door day and night, and threaten to cancel their big-money TV deal if we ever see a Finals like that again.

SuckerpunchParticipantMVP: Lebron James – he’ll be the best player on the number one seed in the east again. I think KD will put up big numbers, but i think the Thunder’s record will suffer without Westbrook early, and a weaker bench without Martin. Both LeBron and KD can do pretty much everything on the court, and the tie breaker will be the teams record.
Rookie of the Year: Victor Oladipo – this is probably the easiest award to pick. Not many rooks will get starters minutes this year. The only ones who might would be MCW or Zeller. Oladipo gets the keys to the Magic. Offensively, he’ll score but probably inefficiently. Defensively, he’ll be one of the better guards in the league.
Coach of the Year: Greg Poppovich – I just think he is the best coach. Year in year out the consistency his teams show is amazing. Just another lazy 60 odd win season for the Spurs……Again!
Sixth Man: Andrei Kirilenko – Should get starters minutes backing up Pierce & Garnett at the 3 and the 4. Should also get a lot of easy looks with Deron at the point and probably being the 4th or 5th option when he’s on the floor. The defence with AK and KG on the floor will be absolute lockdown.
Most Improved: Andre Drummond – His minutes should increase to around 28 – 30 per game. If he can maintain his preseason form he should compete with Dwight for the rebounding title, and could also lead the league in dunks. I’m thinking a line of 12pts 12 boards 2 blocks with a great FG% and a horrible FT% (if he can get his FT% above .500 then he deserves this award).
Eastern Conference – Miami
Western Conference – Oklahoma City
Champions – Hoping the Thunder but thinking the HeatTank of the Year (a new award specifically for this season): Phoenix Suns – This is the most competitive award this year. The main contenders include Phoenix, Boston and Philly. The early Gortat trade and the constant mentioning of Miles Plumlee getting big minutes has made me lean towards the Suns here. If Dragic gets traded then they’re all in! Philly will push them all the way though.

SuckerpunchParticipantDamn I missed defensive player of the year!
Dwight will be back to his best and reclaim his mantle as the best defensive player in the league. I’m hoping Dwight and Asik can learn to play together, scary defence/scary free throws = entertaining!

Chilbert arenasParticipantI might want to change my most improved award to Derrick Favors based off the minute increase he’s going to get and there won’t be many other options.

samosasParticipantI’m curious to see how the end of ‘lob city’ will be and how much Doc Rivers can coach the under-talented Blake Griffin if he isn’t dunking the ball.

druneave3Participant@OP – Two guys I have always been huge fans of and also think they have a chance at Most Improved are Derrick Favors and Jimmy Butler. Don’t you think Anthony Davis’s overall talent, being the #1 pick just last year, and the fact that he was hurt last year will hurt his chances a bit? He has a slight chance to be even make an all star appearance but I think people might say, this kid has always been extremely talented, been compared to KG and Duncan, how much did he really “improve?” He will win many other awards over the course of his career but I am going with Derrick Favors.
The East is going to be really fun this year with 5 great teams, and a toss up between MIA, IND, and CHI (in no particular order) who could come out on top. I am assuming Miami realizes that the winning streak last year ended up hurting them, especially Wade, in the long run. I don’t think they will put that must emphasis on the regular season, rest the big 3 and other vets, and be more than ready for the playoffs and yet another title run. While I am picking them to win it all again like most, I don’t think they will lead the East during the regular season. My guess is the Bulls with crazy ass Thibs leading the way win the most games and finish 1st. I mean dude was putting starters, including D Rose coming off his injury, back in the game during last game situations even in the preseason to get to 8-0! He really needs to take a lesson from Pops regarding rest and how the compilation of NBA minutes really takes a toll on players bodies.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantI definitely agree with Jimmy Butler having a shot at getting MIP. I’m a HUGE fan of him, especially what he did in the playoffs and how much he’s improved since he got drafted. I think he can easily put up 14-6 this year with 1.6 steals and 2 threes. The perfect 3-D player.

JoeWolf1MVP – Kevin Durant – leads the league in scoring on his normal sharp shooting clip to go with 8 boards, 4 assits
ROY – Victor Oladipo – I think he’ll have some challengers and may not be the top rookie scorer, but due to his role for the Magic, I think he fills up 4 + rebounds and 4 + assists and over a steal per game.
DPOY – LeBron James – A wing hasn’t won the award in a while, and I think Lebron takes his already stellar defensive play to the next level this year.
6th Man – Lance Stephenson – Lance moving to a 6th man role paired with his continued improvement result in his best pro season despite coming off the bench.
MIP – Enes Kanter – Kanter shows signs of a future star in Utah dropping 15 ppg to go with 8 rebounds per, and more than doubling his sophomore output.
COY – Rick Adleman – The Wolves finally stay healthy for the majority of the year, win 50 games and make the playoffs.
ECC – Chicago Bulls – They finally knock out the Heat in the ECF
WCC – L.A. Clippers – Doc pulls everyone together and dominates the Western bracket.
NBA Champs – Clippers in 7 ( Did I just type that? )
Finals MVP – Chris Paul – Finally gets his chip

Mr. HookShotParticipantMVP – LeBron James: he’s simply the best
ROY – Oladipo: I think this guy will put up the most impresive stats, and seeing his game expanding year after year this guy will improve the ball-handling stuff so he can become a full-time PG at the end of the year.
DPOY – Dwight Howard: he will make a horrible defense Rockets team of last year into one of the best defensive teams this year.
6th Man – Marco Belinelli: although unlikely, I really hope this guy gets some recognition with an award!
MIP – A. Davis: although he is a sophomore, he will take a gigantic leap this year to (super)star status which will bag him this trophy.
COY – Spoelstra: I think the Heat will win it all again and Coach Spo will finally get some credit for that.
ECC – Heat: still the team to beat.
WCC – Spurs: they improved their team compared to last year, having Belinelli and Pendergraph coming from the bench this year.
NBA Champs – Heat in 7
Finals MVP – LeBron James: boring choice? Could be, but also based on the last two years.
