montauriush4ParticipantAustin River is going to be POY next year cause he is going to carry the load next year. He have to score and be a playmaker. The ball will be in his hands alot. I see him being the Kemba Walker of next year by putting the team on his back each and every game.
I see him avg 22ppg 3a 3reb 1.5s
He will be a top 5 pick next year and if he was in the draft this year he would have been the #1 pick
What you all think

ilike.panochasParticipantRivers will not have to carry the load at Duke, they have plenty of talent. Kemba’s situation was much tougher because the 2nd player on his team (Jeremy Lamb) was a freshman and didn’t start coming along till the last 10 games of the season.

cward23ParticipantDoubt that he carry’s the load although he has the ability he has a nice amount of talent around him, established scorers unlike kemba at Uconn

NJHooper95ParticipantTo much talent at Duke for Austin Rivers to have a Kemba Walker type impact. Quin Cook, Seth Curry, and Andre Dawkins will all see minutes and have the ball. Austin will shine but I see him more as a 16-17ppg type guy on this team. He will have big nights but he will have tough nights as well.

Chilbert arenasParticipantI don’t see coach K planning the offense around him as he did for JJ Redick. That’s a lot to expect from a freshman especially at Duke with the players around him.

PlatypusParticipantI see J. Lamb being the POY, he can score and UCONN needs a scorer now that Kemba is gone

aamir543ParticipantThat’s a bit too optimistic. I see 16.5, 4 and 3 playing 31 minutes a night, and that I feel may be stretching it.

Chilbert arenasParticipantSullinger should be the preseason POY but we’ll see who emerges and if Barnes lives up to his hype as he started to do later in the season next year he could be in the running.

cward23ParticipantVery optimistic as far as Lamb. Maybe big east POY and thats pushing it. He is a good couple fo steps behind Sullinger (one of the leaders for POY and Barnes) lets remeber they were also freshmen and they also will be better as Soph’s.
Also don’t forget to add Tyler Thortan to the Duke rotation(several former players say he will most likely start this up coming season).
My bet would be Sullinger because he will have a legit scoring center next to him as well as dominating as a freshman as well as hearing how he has lost weight and is more explosive and has extended his range

StF616ParticipantI honestly think Austin Rivers is overrated. He will be a good player imo but he wont be special.
A solid starter, good scorer and all that and will do Pretty good in college, But i dont see him being more than a scorer in the NBA a starter but not near an all-star.0 - Posted on: Tue, 07/05/2011 - 10:45am #563686

OhCanada-ParticipantAndre Dawkins has NBA talent and I think he will step up big time in Singler and Smiths absence. Maybe one of the Plumlees actaully develops a post move this summer, although I doubt it.I see him averaging statlines along the same lines as Brandon Knight last year. If Quinn Coooks minutes are not that high and they dont share the duties of running the point I expect about 17-ppg with about 2-3 boards and 3-4 assists.

cward23ParticipantThats good but you have to put it in perspective. Thats not college regular season with defenses geared towards stopping him. Its still good though and at leats you admit you are biased towards him..lol
@ohCanada i think alot of people are sleeping on Dawkins. It would’t surprise me if he has a All ACC/Demarcus Nelson type year.

Memphis MadnessParticipantPerry Jones is a top talent with less help than Harrison Barnes. I think he could make a run at POY.
I was thinking about this last night, and I think Duke will get a guy on the 1st Team All-NCAA so my team would would be Barnes, Jones, Rivers, Sullinger, and Jeremy Lamb. … all 5 of those guys have a chance along with some of the Kentucky guys.

cward23ParticipantI just can’t see Jones over Sullinger. Jones has more potential because of his skill set but he just isn’t the beast that Sullinger is. He would have to make a very big jump to be POY and nothing in his past shows that he will make that jump. It does show inconsitantcy and the lack of mind set to dominate. Don’t be Surprised if Andre Dawkins make thats All NCAA team

cward23ParticipantHe shouldnt have gotten POY since its based on conference play. He played well but he had alot of bad shooting nights. Thats why they have tourney MVP and conference MVP

Memphis MadnessParticipantcward23,
I have Jones as a guy who can win the POY, but Sullinger has a chance too.
Sullinger is more likely to get 20 and 10 than Perry Jones is. Harrison Barnes is
probably the mainstream pick but I also think that Sullinger could be the POY. Perry Jones
and Jeremy Lamb are my two sleeper picks. I think Austin Rivers has a good chance of getting
Freshman of the Year (He will have less help than the Kentucky or UNC freshmen), and I think he will
get votes by helping get Duke into the top 5. Last year Nolan Smith was a candidate for POY and Irving was an
early candidate for it before he got hurt and I think that Rivers can have a similar type of year.If I had a second team it would be more up in the air but I would start with Anthony Davis, Joe Jackson, Will Barton, Brad Beal,
and Kendall Marshall with James McAdoo, Patrick Young, and the Reeves guy at UCLA having nice seasons.0 - Posted on: Tue, 07/05/2011 - 2:57pm #563883

cward23ParticipantPatrick Young has minimal offensive skills though thats why he won’t be POY
Dont sleep on Rivers teammates, Seth can score, Dawkins can score and one of the bigs are gonna be more of a focal point on offense.
I just dont see it with joes because he doesn’t have the motor. I think its Barnes and Sully and then everyone else is trailing
