I see Austin Rivers becoming a more consistent, better all around version of Monta Ellis. Rivers has moves just like him, crazy ball handler and loves the pull up jumper. Similar size and build also and both can play either guard spot.

    Any thoughts

Rivers is not an undersized SG, he has average size. He’s 18 yrs old and is 6’5 180lbs, he will only get taller/bigger.

He’s more like 6’3 guys get measurements like that to help them fit their positions like people saying Kemba is 6’1 he’s really 5’11, or Rose being 6’3 just like Westbrook who they say is 6’3 but their real heights are Rose-6’2 and Westbrook-6’4

So if Rivers is 6’3, that makes Monta 6’1. Rivers is clearly already looks bigger than Monta.

Rivers is 6’4" with a 6’8" wingspan. Good size for a shooting guard.

Can the kid play a college game first?

When Harrison Barnes was in high school, he was compared to a prime Grant Hill with a 3pt jumpshot and now he’s compared to Luol Deng.

Let them play a college game first.

Sadly, you are right.  They set expectations ridiculously high for some players and if they don’t produce the way they should, they catch so much heat and are called busts within a week of their college career.

I could see Austin having the same career as Eric Gordon has had so far. I know their games aren’t to similar but both have about the same height, shoot the three, and have a good handle.

Austin Rivers is almost like a bigger version of Stephen Curry. Both player have great basketball IQ’s and have nice jumpers. Austin can also play the 1 or 2, we’ll see what position Coach K will play him at Duke.

Probably 2 with Curry or Thornton at PG.

    Height (with shoes): 6-4

    Weight: 198.6
    Wingspan: 6-8

Undersized for the 2, but a good wingspan. Or maybe not underszied for the 2 since it seems like every so-called SG is 6-4 and shorter lately. Lame.

Ben Gordon with more game to the drive and a bit of an attitude.

Bigger Stephen Curry and also more athletic = Not so much like Curry.

Im sick of players comparing another player because they have similar skin tone.

I love his all around game so far from what I’ve seen. Can’t wait to see him in college though. However, do you think Duke will hurt his playing style?
