valentineIs this going to be like the last free agency where people lose their mind at every free agent contract. Like Aron Baynes 3yr/21m OMG!
Newsflash: There are no bargains. Your team isnt getting a servicable player for a fair price. Every desirable free agent is coveted by multiple teams and they all have cash to burn.
This includes All Stars right down to 10th men.
Your team isn’t going to get the player you targeted unless they blow the budget. Thats how free agency has always worked…but triple-time this year.
So…dust away the cobwebs on your virtual wallets and be prepared to keep bidding higher and higher for players that simply keep the needle where it is. If youre lucky you might land one.
Otherwise you end up with nothing and go backwards…
NOTHING!

r377ParticipantThis year is even crazier than before. I can’t believe some teams offering huge 5 year deals, do they not think past year 1 ??? 5 years on a big contract can cripple your franchise !!!
Teams are just digging themselves into bigger and bigger holes
Teams are going crazy and blowing their money, if I owned a team I would wait till next year to throw some cash at a good FA.
I read Noah might get $18 mill per season. If this is for 5 years NY will be crippled. The guy will be lucky to play in half the games !!!

Hype MachineThere is a 100% chance that some teams blow it. But some teams will also look brilliant too. Theres always an element of risk involved….like how Steph Currys ankles held up when he was eligible for an extension.
But if you dont sign anyone in free agency, you just end up being the Utah Jazz.

r377ParticipantId rather go the Blazers way of FA – sign 3 or 4 young unproven players, rather than sign 1 or 2 past their prime all-stars with a history of injury (eg NY knicks with Rose, Noah and now looking at Eric Gordon)

XYRYXParticipantWell the Blazers just offered Parsons a 4 year 95 million deal and I wouldn’t consider him elite at all and for sure not with his knee history.

ChoppyParticipantDidn’t we recently have a lockout to protect owners from themselves and their stupid contract offers? Here’s the tip: it didn’t work.

OhCanada-ParticipantHype Machine I’ll show you an example of overpaying.
Raptors signed DeMarre Carroll who I actually like and am happy is in the mix and suited up but realistically…Portland got a similar player who played much better on both ends of the floor with Al-Forouq Aminu and he has a way better injury history thus being healthier this year. If the Raptors signed Aminu last year instead of Carroll they would have money to resign Biyombo with wiggle room or possibly explore other scenarios. Cap space is still cap space and long-term contracts to mediocre players are still long-term commitments to mediocre players.
Another example is with Crowder. Those were good deals and I’m sure we will see some good deals this year.
