BigChamp12ParticipantI’m looking at the Hawks roster with Schroeder and Korver being their starting guards. Korver is a vet and a 3pt specialist. We know what to expect from him. We dont know how Schroeder is going to respond to being handed the reigns to the team. In my opinion, they desperatel need a quality backup PG.
Brandon Jennings was my first choice for them, but the Knicks got him for a bargain at 5 mil for 1 season. I think he’ll do great in New York.
My 2nd choice is maybe Lance Stephenson. Looking at their roster, it’s no way he could possibly hurt them. They need talent, proven talent. Lance could be a great backup player that can play multiple positions and create his own shot as well as shots for others.
My last and favorite chice would be for the Hawks to closely monitor Mario Chalmers as he rehabs from his achillies injury. So far, reports say that he is progressing ahead of schedule and should be ready for training camp. I’m sure they can afford him and won’t have to spend much. Chalmers is another proven veteran, having won rings and played on the biggest stage. He’ll be great for helping to mold Schroeder and he’ll be one of the leaders his first day with the team.

Jr. ROXASParticipantThey signed Malcolm Delaney. Yea, him from VT and the Euroleague. Looking at his game, he fits perfctly as a backup in the hawks system because he could shoot LIGHTS OUT. Perfect compliment to Dwight. I’d take him over a 35m Austin Rivers or any day.

surveParticipantwhat? someone signed Delaney? I am so happy to see this guy get a shot in the league. he is a really really good player. the problem with him is he is not really a PG but an undersized 2. he’s a scorer basically. havent kept up with him in Euroleague but you are right, he can shoot it. great value signing!

kobyzParticipantBaze will start at the two, Korver has no more buisness being a starter in this league…

tommsalmondParticipantI imagine Korver will start next to Baze, don’t see the rookies getting starting jobs that quickly.

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantAt 4-years and $70 million, they better start Kent Bazemore. Good for him, but whew.
I wouldn’t panic over backup point guards. I still see plenty of steady hands to manage a backup point spot (Lawson, Vasquez, Blake, Cole, etc… all of whom I would have thought would have signed contracts before Tyler Johnson and Matthew Dellavedova), but honestly I think Atlanta likes Malcolm Delaney. Just because he didn’t get a legit shot at making the league out of Virginia Tech does not mean he is a no-hoper. He is not someone to dismiss. He was an aggressive scoring guard out of VT, and all he has done since is show that he can do it at every level of Europe and show consistency from the arc.

ghettosermonParticipantDelaney can certainly provide serviceable minutes. He’s an excellent agressive scoring PG who you could even play off ball with Schroeder. You probably still want to bring in a pass first floor general to bring in steady minutes but that’s easy. A veteran 3rd stringer like Steve Blake, Prigioni, and Hinrich will be available.
