we all know by now their are only three teams in the east that are championship contenders. magic, celtics, cavs. but people always seem to forget the hawks are a young team that could make a major push in the east in 2 years. now looking at their roster, they have a point guard in bibby who has maybe 2 or 3 years left, he brings scoring and playoff experience(back in his kings days) to the table, and then you jamal crawford who can flat out score, then a rookie in teague who i feel will be a good starting pg in the nba for years, joe johnson is a good all around player whos only 28, josh smith is still young and raw if he can stop being a knuclehead and add more to his game. he could be very special player in this league, his blocking and rebounding helps the hawks defense out alot, plus he can play the 4. big Al is very underrated player whos gonna average double doubles for years, marvin williams also brings alot to the table too. the bench is solid with zaza a excellent rebounder, joe smith a veteran who can knock down that 15 ft jump shot, mo williams a uunderrated defender , plus they are adding another big man in jason collins. the only thing that might be knocking them from being a real in the east might be josh smith , mike woodson, and ownership. tell me what yall think.

im the kobe bryant of typing.

But to me i don’t think Johnson is a 1 option on a team. I personally think Josh Smith is the player with the most untapped potential in the league he could be a Lebron James besides the play making ability. Al Horford is still unproven to me and this year i think will sway my opinion to either him going to be an allstar type player of jsut being Drew Goodenish…. I also dont think they can hold onto all those player so i see them as challenging for a finals spot in the east but not a championship

Yea Joe Johnson is a good no.1 option, and the Hawks now have one of the deepest benches in the NBA. But I think they shouldve signed Bibby to a 1 or 2 year deal, so they can develop Teague more as a starter and it makes it harder for them to keep Johnson in free agency. But I think they are dark-horse contenders this year.

I like them if they are able to get minutes to all their talented players and also if Joe Smith can get enough minutes to give Hoford rest since he is a undersize 5. Crawford will be key if they use him correctly. Marvin Williams would have done better by going to Portland for like say Pryzabilla and Webster because he will never grow like he should in ATL unless Joe Johnson leaves next year. They have too many players that are too similiar. Hoford should be a 4 and Josh Smith a 3. That would still cause mismatches for most team because of their lenght and athleticism. It will be interesting to see what ATL does and also if the Knicks can scoop up Joe Johnson who could help turn the Knicks around Just like he did the Hawks.

Yea I think they’re contenders.. That guy Horford doesn’t put up stats, but knows how to win… something stats can’t record. I think the key is Josh Smith. Should he play well on the defensive end and know his role on offense… it will be all set. Their bench is great. Teague, Crawford, Smith, Mo evans… Just great team in the making.

After the big 3 in the east, I think Washington, Atlanta and Toronto are all in that next teir of teams that can win 50 games but not win the title. Atlanta must add another big man. Horford needs to step up big time if his only help down low is Zaza and Joe Smith. That’s not scaring any teams.

they are NOT a title contender by any means…there are really only 5 teams IMO that have a legitimate chance of winning the finals…in order of likeliness(LA,SA,BOS,CLE,ORL)

however, i like the hawks alot and they are building their way to a contender along with POR and OKC (4-5 years away)

Johnson is a great player and a couple of good moves and they could possibly be in this discussion

I think Al Horford has shown that 10 and 10 is his max potential if he plays the 5 spot. He could be a borderline all-star at the 4 spot with his size, so I agree. I think a Marvin Williams for Chris Kaman deal would be a great trade, even though I like Marvin and would hate for him to leave.

yeah, I agree Horford needs to play the 4. I think Marvin has a lot of potential, but if they could land a quality center who isn’t too old for Marvin, they should do it in a heartbeat. Kaman is a good choice, he can really produce if healthy.

Teague is also gonna be important off the bench. I see Bibby kinda taking that Fisher type role where he starts but only plays like half the game. If Teague can give them spark off the bench, that would be a huge lift.

The Hawks are gonna be good cuz J-Smith is such an athletic specimen, and Marvin is learning to shoot 3’s. Now they got Jamal (20 pts a game), offense is gonna improve a lot.

My man Teague is unstoppable, and growing up in Georgia, I am glad the Hawks are finally going to shine this year…
