Stinky34ParticipantEspn is reporting that Houston has agreed to trade Omer Asik to New Orleans for the Pelicans 2015 1st round pick…

The8thDeadlySinParticipantIf this is true, it is a perfect fit, and they get to keep Anderson.

doubledribblerParticipantI think this was probably one of the few things that it seemed everyone on this site agreed on. They should have figured this out last year.

B-ball fanParticipantAt least the Pelicans are committed to their plan of not drafting anybody.
Anyways, it isn’t really a bad deal. The Pelicans have already decided against pursuing a youth movement, so getting a nice veteran can help. They should contend for the 8th seed next season, at least if some members of the team don’t get injured.

Ebown5ParticipantGreat trade for both teams. Asik is perfect for the Pelicans and it clears space for the Rockets.
i wonder if Lin is going to get traded to the Sixers along with the a Rockets 1st rounder this year to clear even more space.

Hector_Reyes_8ParticipantIf this is legit, it’s perfect. Davis doesn’t have to play Center anymore and Asik is a very good big man who gets a lot of flack for no reason at all.

OhCanada-ParticipantGreat trade and its about time they found a true Center to put next to Davis. Alot of people on this site suggested they make a move for Asik for some time now. Davis needs to play at PF his natural position to sustain longevity in this league less wear and tear and bruises. Although how will this work, New Orleans already lost the rights to their 2014 pick I thought you are not aloud to trade consecutive 1sts. Is it an acquired pick from another trade?

Darius22ParticipantAs a pelican I am really happy about not only did we get Asik but didn’t trade Ryan Anderson in the process and once again the pick is protected.

WhodunitParticipantI have mixed feelings about this trade.
-I liked Asik, he was a beast for us 2 years ago when he by himself manned the paint admirably all season. Plus i thought he was worth a little more than a 1st round pick from the Pelicans who will probably land something like the #12-15 pick next year.
-Its gonna be harder to trade Lin now all by himself. I dont think alot of teams like the $8.4M cap hit and the actual $15M hit they gotta pay him this year. I doubt we’re able to trade him just by himself without attaching a pick to him. Plus i thought he would improve again this year and was anxious to see how much.
-Most of All, why i have mixed feelings about this is: This means we’re probably gonna get Melo. I like Melo, but not at all for this team. He doesnt fit. We have 2 guys already in Harden and Howard who ARE NOT LEADERS. Neither is Melo. Melo needs a PG facilitating for him to be at his best. Think how good he was when he had Chauncey billups and J-Kidd with him those years.
-McHale is not gonna be able to coach this bunch. I dont like him as a coach, especially for these 3 types of personalities. They’re gonna run HIM and not the other way around. And i dont like Mchale period as a head coach, he’s a terrible strategist. We lost the 1st round this year because of his incompetent moves and Harden being a no-show again.
-Now we have to go out and get another quality Big man. They are hard to find.
-Dork Elvis, your a Effin Genius and im glad your piloting the shuttle.

I rescind this comment now after learning its a top20 protected pick. Morey, you plumpish basterd, u waited the whole year thinking you were gonna be able to trade him "EASY no problem" thinking everyone wanted him. Thinking setting a date for everyone to put thier best offer forward by the end of december and No one bit. We got stuck with him. You out-smarted yourself and waited too long to trade him. Now your trading him at 20% of his value this time last year, after we had gotten Dwight. Now were gonna get Melo and still be short another big man. You idiot!

if by some small chance the commissioner can push through his 2 year college rule it could be even better because the pick given up would be in a depleted draft.

What The DevilParticipantWin-win for both sides. New Orleans gets a true center to help Anthony and the Rockets clear up a lot of cap space. What are the conditions on the pick?

IndianaBasketballParticipantDell Demps keeps giving up first round picks lol.
Center has been an area of need since trading Robin Lopez, so I think it’s a good move for the Pelicans. Now, they just need to figure out their starting small forward.
The Pelicans look very good on paper. They’ll need to stay healthy, but I think the pressure is on Monty Williams to deliver. Anthony Davis is about to tear up the league. Reports are that he’s put on 10-15 lbs of muscle. With Jrue Holiday, Eric Gordon, Tyreke Evans and Ryan Anderson… Williams has no excuses.

Pistol Pete. The PelicanParticipantAs the resident Pelicans fan, I like Asik but I hate this trade, just like I hated the Holiday trade last year. Depending on the results of tomorrow, meaning if we make any trades or not. This will give us 3 straight years without draft picks, and the 2014 and 2015 drafts both seem to be pretty strong. Asik doesn’t make us a contender, so we are stuck in basketball purgatory with no assets.
We’re at the place where either, we will go to the playoffs and lose in the first round, or be right outside of the playoffs, the place no one wants to be. BASKETBALL PURGATORY. FIRE DELL DEMPS.
Jrue Holiday is a good point guard but no elite, we traded 2 top 10 picks for him. Now lets not put any names to the picks, and just look at it from the outside. Is Jrue Holiday worth 2 top 10 picks? no he is not.
We’re giving 52 million to Asik, Gordon, Holiday, Anderson and Tyreke. Really? This really angers me….
Dont get me wrong I like Asik, but he doesn’t make us a contender. Just as Jrue Holiday didn’t last year.
In the West alone, you have Tony Parker, Stephen Curry, Dragic/Bledsoe, Chris Paul, Mike Conley, Ty Lawson, Russell Westbrook, most of those gms will pick all of those player over Holiday, in his conference alone. smh

Sorry, im just mad at you all and especially my GM Morey right now. We got a 1st round pick back that we’re never gonna see when we could have traded Asik for much more in February.

220ParticipantGreat deal for the Pelicans. The Pelicans get a top notch defensive and rebounding center to take the pressure of guarding centers off of Anthony Davis. Plus they don’t have to deal Ryan Anderson or anyone important to get it done. If the Pelicans can stay healthy they should make the playoffs next year.

chrispaulwallParticipantPelicans keep making moves that they’ll regret soon enough. Almost everyone on their roster besides Ryan Anderson and Ant are overpaid and have long term deals. Sure they’re a solid team right now but they might not even make the playoffs considering how strong the West is. And if they do it’ll be close to impossible to knock off the Spurs/Thunder/Clips/Warriors/Blazers/Rockets etc. God damn the WC is crazy
