Reason : once you a lights out shooter that creates so much spacing on a basketball court, A simple pump fake or quick jab step would get your defender off track due to you being such a good shooter. That last sentence I like the way you put that. Coming up playing basketball I could always shoot. My dad bought me a hoop when I was like 4 and by 5 or 6 I was shooting on it a regulation height making baskets consistently. But I was out in the country our ground was uneven and I never developed a handle for most of my younger years of hooping. Coming up playing ball I would always get picked close to last despite being one of the better shooters. Over the years I developed a moderate handle but It wasn’t until I was 14 that I said, Ok i’m gonna work on my handle to make it the best it can be just because I wanted that respect. By 16 my junior year of high school my handle i’d say above average and by my senior year i’d say it was on that ankle breaking ball on a string I can get my shot anywhere at anytime level. Overall I’d say you guys are right because I was still able to impact the game and come off screens to score despite not having a great handle. But to me breaking down the defense on your own and getting that respect is a whole lot of fun. Ahh if only I could go back I would’ve done so much more with basketball, had an older cousin that went D1 and pro and a younger cousin thats now division one….it could’ve been me as well but that’s another story…..

If it’s know that you have no handles they’re not likely to go for the jab steps…maybe the pump fakes…They’re going to run at you to chase you off the 3 point line or wherever you like to catch and shoot from. God Shammgod. Sham had the greatest handles I’ve ever had the privilege of seeing in person, but had no J. He played 1 yr in the NBA because of it. He had a very long career overseas, but never got another real shot (no pun intended) at the L. Rip Hamilton never had much handle, but made a living running off screens baseline to baseline for jumpers. I know who’s career I would rather have had…

I would want to be a tall player(7 footer) because when you can get a million dollars for just being tall and so called professional in your mid 30’s. I could find random guys in the hood between 5’10 and 6’5 that with the proper gym routine for 6 months to a year could be on par with pro players like the skill is there but the conditioning repetition probably isn’t. How many 7 footers do YOU know????? I bet if you were 7 feet and never played organized ball in your life if you hit the gym and got in game shape you could walk in and get an invite to training camp at least lol

The only two guys I can think of currently in the NBA that have carved out long careers for their handles (and playmaking ability) are Andre Miller and Rajon Rondo. I’d be here all day if I listed players that are in the league for their shooting.

A jumper over handles is the best choice for me. But in the end I trade both for beeing Dennis Rodman. No handles and no jumper but the geratest rebounder, one of the most versatile defenders ever and a winner! If you make it so far without any offensive arsenal you are special.

Because every team need shooters to space out the floor. Which means you will get paid for what you do best.. Shooters most of the time have a longer career than ball handlers…

Even if its ball handler with ways to take it to the rack i probably will prefer a shooter..
