llperezgonna use this thread to make some comments on the game. Its a chance to see lottery prospects Derrick Williams for Arizona and Tyler Honeycutt for UCLA.

llperezucla and arizona are currently tied for second in the pac 10 (5-2) so winner takes over sole possesion of second place. Im curious to see if ucla makes an adjustment defensively where josh smith at 300+ pounds and slow and foul prone will be matched with derrick williams who is quick and a foul drawing magnet.

llperezlike i figured josh smith got pulled from the starting lineup. Doubt we see much of him, just a terrible matchup.

Lotto StudParticipantHow has Malcolm Lee performed this year because he was on the radar for last years draft.

llperezlee had a rough first couple weeks and had an injury but has bounced back strong recently. He had 23 last game and he is the teams best defender. Did a decent job slowing down jimmer. I have no idea how he will do in the nba but he can defenitely defend if nothing else.

BKKnicksfanParticipantLL…need your opinion on Josh Smith please. High hopes for him?

llperezi dont think josh smith will be ready to come out for at least 2 more seasons. Way too slow for the nba right now. BUt he has the tools if he ever gets in shape. Great hands and bball iq for a big man.

BKKnicksfanParticipantI think UCLA needs a legit point guard. Is he alright with pick and roll stuff?

llperezucla playing sloppy with unforced turnovers. Arizona on a 9-0 run to go up 20-13

llperezjosh smith isnt very mobile in traffic so i dont think pick and roles are his strength. He doesnt finish well in traffic either.

llperezhell be 1st rounder eventually but hopefully he sticks around to get in shape. He also needs to work on getting a mean streak. But considering hes averaging 10 and 6 in 19 minutes hes doing all right.

iguapops420ParticipantSeems like he has some potential, I’m not a big fan personally. Kinda reminds me of Eddy Curry with better rebounding instincts. I’m really high on Tyler Honeycutt. Most people have found comparisons to Childress, but I personally see more Andre Iguodala, with the build of Childress. Numbers aside, How has Lee actually developed. Has he tightened his handle and worked on his advanced ballhandling.

llperezeddy curry is not a bad comparison but hopefully he has a work ethic eddy didnt. Im also very high on tyler honeycutt, his skills should translate very well to the nba. Lee is a guy who does nothing spectacular and nothing poor, just a very solid all around player. His shooting has improved but still nothing to write home about.

llperezhalftime, arizona up 38-33. Derrick williams with 12 points on 3-5 shooting and a dunk that will most defenitely be on the espn top 10 tonight. For ucla its the reeves nelson show. He has 17 on 7-7 shooting and like all season he is the teams MVP again.
Neither team looks very impressive though. Arizona is not a good defensive team and not one guy other then DWill is reliable. UCLA is shooting themsleves in the foot with turnovers and missed layups and tyler honeycutt is a no show so far with just 2 points on 0-3 shooting although he does have 7 boards.

iguapops420ParticipantThat’s exactly what I figured with Lee. The few times I’ve watched, he reminds me of a mix between Thabo and a young Marquis Daniels. Sounds bout right that Honeycutt has been a no show. I don’t think his skills are ready to be a consistent force offensively night in and night out. He would be well served to stay another year and develop his body/refine his game so he doesn’t come out too early like Nicolas Batum. Yeah, I’m sure Smith has a better work ethic. His willingness to rebound is a good sign towards his work ethic. That shows some drive IMO, he’s really got some work to do on his body though. Would be nice if he grows another inch or so.

iguapops420ParticipantI’m still not sure where I’m at with Derrick Williams as he reminds me of the Michael beasley who wasn’t skilled enough to be a 3 and wasn’t big enough or a good enough rebounder to be a 4. Definetly wouldn’t take him in the top 5 in any other draft IMO.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 01/27/2011 - 5:28pm #479703

llperezone difference between dwill and beasley that will help williams is that he is not a ball stopper. He does not need to pound the rock or go iso so he can get his numbers with in the flow of the offense.

llperez60-44, arizona is breaking the game open with 14 minutes to go.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 01/27/2011 - 5:44pm #479712

llperezwell its ugly now. UCla got beat down. Im checking out.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 01/27/2011 - 5:50pm #479715

BKKnicksfanParticipantDerrick Williams…I could see that potential #1 pick in him. Very fluid and he’s a athlete.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 01/27/2011 - 5:52pm #479717

iguapops420ParticipantThanks for the update, nice to hear that Williams is getting his numbes within the flow of the offense. Still not sure if the rebounding and defense are going to be good enough to garner top 5. But that’s just my personal preference I can see why someone would want him.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 01/27/2011 - 10:03pm #479779

RUDEBOY_ParticipantDerrick Williams reminds me of current Fox Announcer and former NBA All Star Marques Johnson…
I Like that Honeycutt comparision to Iggy…The Bruins have about 4 future nba players on this team..But they have no chemistry,no outside shooting, sloppy point guard play and poor transition defense….Smith might be 1 of the top big men in the country next year,if he continue working on his game and keeping his weight under control…
