Arizona will have a crazy amount of talent next year:

    PG: Kobi Simmons, Peter Jackson-Cartwright

SG: Allonzo Trier, Terrance Ferguson, Kadeem Allen

    SF Ray Smith, Rawle Atkins

    PF Lauri Markkanen

    C Dusan Ristic

Very interesting team, so many wings, not many big men. I think they go small with Ray Smith at PF (he reportedly has added weight during his redshirt season). Maybe a line up of:

Simmons, Ferguson, Trier, Smith and Ristic?

    Bench: Jackson-Cartwright, Atkins, Allen, Markkanen

Thoughts? How far do you see this team going?

I see Smith getting the start at pf starting out atleast.

    Same with Cartwright at pg

I think their offense has a chance to be explosive but at the same time how far they go come the tournament will defend on their defense and who of these mostly scoring minded young players will be willing to give up shots to make the team better.

It will be interesting to see how Miller does with this group.  If can’t get to final four, he should be fired.  One of the best recruiter but one of the worst coaches.

Ranking worst coaches of well know schools

Sean miller, Lorenzo romar, josh partner, Steve Alford, Matt painter, mark gotfried

Romar is absolutely terrible. Can recruit but can’t coach to save his soul. Matt Painter was supposed to be the ish when he came from southern Illinois but after the Hummel/Johnson/Moore era died, they haven’t been that impressive. He can’t really recruit

Sean Miller is one of the worst coaches? I swear, I hate college basketball fans sometime.

I think the starting lineup will shake out like this:

    PG Allen
    SG Trier
    SF Ferguson
    PF Smith
    C Ristic

Alkins could definitely start over Trier. Trier might be more effective as an off the bench scorer. Allen is so good defensively that I think he gets the start at PG. Markennen and Comanche will play 15-20 mins too.

Either Simmons or PJC will not get much time and the other will get the remaining PG mins

Kobi simmons is going to start from day 1. Other than Smith Jr and Fox Simmons is the most talented point guard coming in. Sean miller is a players coach Simmons doesn’t go here to sit the bench. Trier will be their leading scorer and best wing player. Ray Smith will be the 3rd best player on the team and start at either forward position. Zona will have plenty of talent but these are by far the 3 best players. Alkins and Ferguson first off the bench.

I am actually not high on Simmons.  I think he struggles to adjust to the college game.  I have seen him play 3 times and he is more of a 2 guard that got by with superior length and athleticism.  There was one game I saw him play where he honestly scored off of all ally-oops.  He is high upside for sure, and is a great athlete, but I think he may be in college for 2 or 3 seasons.  I know GBee has seen him play more than me, and he might be able to share some more insight, but I just was not impressed with him the 3 times I saw him.  More of a top 40 guy IMHO.

Alkins, Ferguson and Markkenon on the other hand are all high impact players out of the gate.  I think Markkenon has a chance to be super special, and with the right amount of touches could find himself in a lottery position next season.

Wait some people don’t think Sean Miller is really good?

That’s the most "if we’re not first we’re last" take ever. I might take 10 coaches ahead of him. Probably not though. He’s great.

Zona will be good next year. I assume they go with Smith as a PF more often than not. No clue who they start, don’t really think it matters. Simmons, Trier, Smith, Ferguson, Jackson-Cartright, Atkins will all get lots of minutes.

They could really use another year from a guy like Tarkzieuski (too lazy to look up). They need a big who will set picks and anchor the defense but they got guys who will score for sure.

Top-5-10 team next year. Should be fun watching them and Oregon go at it (assuming the guys for Oregon come back)

Lol…I see I am getting hammered for being critical of Sean Miller.  My basis for saying he is one of the worst coach is based on 1.  The results he gets from so much talent every year.  Compared his talent to those of uconn, Villanova, etc.  2.  When things does not go his way in game…seems like he does not adjust.  Good coach like Kevin Ollie change tactics when thing don’t work ( he changed defense to more full court, 3/4 court press against Washington to quicken pace, etc.  Another example was Chris beard during ncaa tourney against Purdue.

The results he gets from having so much talent? He got to the elite 8 the two years before this past year and lost to a team that almost won the ship in Wisconsin.

Kevin Ollie gets plenty of talent with a team in a worse league and barely made the tournament each of the last two years. Ollie is a fine coach, but lets not act like he’s out-scheming every coach in the country here.

Nova before this year couldn’t get out of the first weekend for how many years? Again, I like Jay Wright. He’s a fine coach. He gets good players too. Probably not as good as Arizona, but still good players.

What does Miller need to adjust? I guess I’m actually curious what his teams don’t do, or how he is holding them back.

I’m not trying to lead the "Sean Miller is a great coach" charge here because I’m not an Arizona fan or anything. I don’t care if people don’t like him I guess, it means nothing to me, but I find it silly when people subscribe to a notion that a guy isn’t a good coach because his team doesn’t win the national championship. Since he’s gotten there, Zona has been nothing but the model of consistency.

I’ll take Miller over Ollie and Jay Wright any day. And I like both those guys.
