MgwinterParticipantToday I googled Aquille Carr hoping to find a youtube videos of insane cross overs against college competition, but instead found he choose to play in the D League over going to college?! He had offers to play at Memphis and UConn.
Anybody know if there is more to this story? Why would a player go to the D League over a top college program? I guess it worked for Glen Rice Jr but a similar move failed terribly for Jermey Tyler. Do you think we will see more players make this decision? I noticed Carr is not on any mock draft boards so doesnt look like its working.
In case you forgot how explosive this kid is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpZRRaAbdzo

ball4life66ParticipantWell Glen Rice Jr got kicked off the Ga Tech team so he was forced to go to DLeague. Pretty sure Carr was going to Seton Hall…no idea why he didn’t go.

HobbyOGParticipanthttp://www.slamonline.com/online/media/slam-tv/2013/09/aquille-carr-starts-professional-career-in-china-video/ he tweeted one day he wanted to get paid now..so he signed with a team in China. Not sure how he ended in the NBDL. Also he has a kid by a chick that’s like 30.
Here’s a coo article on him, looks like he couldn’t come to an agreement with the chinese team.

Warned2820ParticipantGoing to Europe and getting paid a lot can certainly be rationalized. Going straight to the D-League makes no sense.

TRC1991ParticipantAquille Carr is a classic example of a guy who didn’t get the most positive advice…Also, he had an assault charge that turned Seton Hall away

ItsVictorOladipoParticipantI didn’t give you a thumbs down (I usually don’t unless somebody really annoys me) but it might have something to do with you saying a similar move didn’t work for Jeremy Tyler when Tyler played professionally in Israel and Japan, not the D-League, prior to being drafted into the NBA. A lot of people on here will hit you with negs if they see factual errors.

McDunkinBruh….the NBADL got Chu Chu Maduabum drafted.
He didn’t impress playing in a international setting while at the Eurocamp so im sure that combined with the Jeremy Tyler experiment teams weren’t biting like he thought they would and seeing as how China isn’t a place to really improve due to lack of competition why not go to the D League where you are under constant watch from NBA representatives.
NBADL the D is for dreams

SiggyParticipantHe didn’t have the grades to go to college. He could’ve signed a contract in China, but I doubt he would’ve lasted a full season for a number of reasons.
He’s not in any mocks because he’s not an NBA caliber draft prospect.
As for more players going to the D-League instead of school, I don’t see more kids doing that any time soon. It’s actually not a bad option and I’d like to see more kids go that route to stick it to the NCAA. The competition really is not that bad for prospects. They don’t have to worry about school work, they get paid and have more time to work on their games, but it’s just a really unattractive, last resort option because of the low pay, the stigma of the league and the lack of exposure to the public.
