I seriously, seriously doubt it.

The only thing that sticks out in my mind is the fact that they have Conley and Mayo set at the guard spots. But then again, they have Gasol in the middle.

I just can’t see them passing up Rubio at 2, no matter what they need.

Or else maybe they will trade out of the pick…

Rubio, Mayo, Gay and Gasol looks like a pretty good right now if they decide to keep both Mayo and Gay but if they can get a couple good vets they could probably be a playoff team in the next 2 years.
I dont see Conley as a franchise point guard and at 18 Rubio is a much better point guard than him

I don’t think they should use it on Thabeet. Maybe draft a big later on, but Rubio seems to be too good to pass up on and let it come back and bite you in the butt. Who knows? They might think Conley is the real deal and take size.

yeah the grizzlies really need to get rubio. no need for thabeet becasue of gasol, darko, and hadidididi. IM A HUGE GRIZZLIE FAN and im so pumped that grizzlies finnaly got a good pick in the lottery!! rubio is the way to go. now if rubio decides to walk away from draft and way one more year…. then you can maybe see memphis getting brandon jennings or jordan hill… ohhh damnn. espn says grizzlies have a good shot at going for thabeet…. but thats not a smart move. besides conley.. we have no one else at the point guard position. we need rubio

Thabeet to Memphis is not smart. OKC would monkey-flip if they got Rubio at 3.

I think they can find a serviceable power forward with the 27th pick, a trade or (more likely) through free agency. Don’t forget, the Grizzlies have plenty of salary cap room. I would never pass up Ricky Rubio in this draft unless I was the Clippers and had the first pick. I think Rubio has star written all over him. The only two knocks on him are athleticism and shooting. He’s a lot better in both departments than people give him credit for. His shooting needs some work, but he’s quicker and more athletic than people are making out. He also has that all important elusiveness that steve nash possess. This skill gives him the ability to still get past the defense time and time again, even with his perceived lack of athleticism.

At pick 27, players that may be available to go big with are- Hansbrough, Lawal and Mullens if they fall, Adrien, Pendergraph, Heytvelt, and anyone else they want to reach for. I say they should take Rubio at no. 2, then if Hansbrough, Mullens and Lawal are gone by no. 27, they should find a PF in free agency.

Its not as crazy a scenario as people think. Remember theres a month before the draft. I personally have thought Conley has been overated since he was drafted, so i would take Rubio

Im a huge Memphis fan and they HAVE to take Jordan Hill! He is the atheltic power forward they need to go beside Marc Gasol. Dont take Thabeet! He is so overrated! I can tell a lot of you dont keep up with the Grizz bc Conley became a star after Ivaroni was sent packing and Hollins gave him the keys to do as he pleased. He’s the only reason Hollins wasn’t sent packing. Check his stats before and after Hollins. Rubio cant play defense and isnt physical enough. He’s another J-Will!

Ok, if you say he can’t play defense is that you haven’t watched him play. He was the number one in Euroleague in stolen balls when he was 16!!! And he’s been one of the top defenders at the point guard position in the ACB league (which is widely considered the second best national league in the world) the last years.

This year he had more than 2 steals per game in 22 mpg. I know that defense isn’t just that, but he has goddamn quick hands and he always put rival guards in troubles.

He’s not another J-Will at all. First of all, he is more physical than him despite not being strong. The second thing is that he can give unbelieveble passes but his IQ is higher, so he is not as risky as J-Will. On the other hand, his shot is quite bad… slow and not very effective.

I really think that the player Memphis wants is Thabeet.

I mean, the Grizzlies haven’t been able to guard any player more talented than a chair for the last few years. (To be fair, they are always ranked within the bottom 10 in Defense) I’ve noticed that their front line sports many undersized players who are weak one on one post defenders who prefer to play defense coming from the weakside in order to rely on their athleticism. e.g. Arthur, Warrick. Darko is gone. They have no size up front. Conley played at an all-star level in March and April; I expect him to play at a similar level for the rest of his career (fingers crossed for injuries). Thabeet will become the good interior defender that is needed to play alongside Gasol or just come off the bench. I’ve noticed that especially this season, as soon as Gasol comes out of the game, teams do not ever hesitate to drive the ball inside. Thabeet will add a whole new dimension to the D. I’d say look for OKC to offer number 3 and number 25 and also 2010’s second round pick for the second overall pick this year. OKC picks Rubio and slides Westbrook to the two. OKC becomes a contender in 2 years, assuming they pick up a serviceable centre like Ilgauskas. Memphis drafts Thabeet and a great backup PG in either Mills, Teague, Collison, Toney Douglas, etc.

I’m just saying that…

I think Rubio isn’t as heads and shoulders above the other PGs as most people think. There are so many great PG prospects from 15 to 35 that I wouldn’t really use a top pick to Draft a potential future star who has to compete for PT with another young PG who is all-star-esque already. If Memphis does not trade Conley and Draft Rubio, neither player will be happy and it’ll lead to another season of losing and even worse team chemistry.

You don’t pass up on rubio if you’re memphis. Mayo isn’t a pure PG so he can move over to SG and conley can get minutes off the bench. I wouldn’t take my chances on a raw big man when rubio’s already proven himself in the olympics against the US.

if they can trade conley + 27th pick (+ laker’s pick next year, if necessarry) for the rights of jordan hill and francisco garcia, i think they’re set. i think hill is a lock at the 4th pick, Sac needs a point guard, and i think conley’s their man. he’s still young and he showed flashes of potential in the 2nd half of the season.
