fito91ParticipantHow is this kid not at the top of draft boards???
It’s crazy to me that he’s #3 on this site.

B EazyParticipantOh he has I’m sure….all of them. Unfortunately for Wiggins, that’s the problem. His consistency is questionable. That’s not to say that he can’t and won’t be the best player out of this draft but certainly something to think about. Jabari has been much more consistent and has been the unquestioned leader of that Duke team. Any one of those top three guys should be stellar in the NBA. Take your pick on who you’d take first overall.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantIf Wiggins had played the entire season the way he’s played the past month he would’ve remained on top of draft boards..Despite the amazing breakout performance of Embiid and the play of Parker….
But his up & down play, his lack of aggressiveness and being to passive, led to him no longer being the consensus overall pick in the eyes of alot of people…….Wiggins,Parker,Embiid and Exum are the top 4,who goes where will depend on the team drafting…

max23ParticipantI dont know if id say hes been inconsistent. Its more that hes improved as an offensive player during the year, his jump shot looks Way better than it did in the beginning of the season. The guy wasnt that good a shooter,it was normal he didnt look to dominate…Just an 18 yo growing as a player.

omgitscoreyParticipantHis biggest knocks coming into the season were jumpshot and motor.
He’s erased most doubters on his jumpshot. It’s not elite but it’s consistent enough to not be a detriment. His motor? I never questioned it. He plays calm. He keeps a straight face. He isn’t outgoing with his emotion. Does this mean he doesn’t play with a high motor? No, he’s just reserved.
He’s shown an aresanal of moves in the halfcourt. He’s excelled in areas that people thought he was weak in. He has a number of step backs, crossovers, spins, and ballfakes, and he’s a lot more talented in a slow-paced offense than anyone would have thought.
On top of all of that, he’s got elite athletecisim, an incredible first step, very quick hands on defense, smart body positioning, and he can finish in transition and convert at the line.
He’s the number one pick. His upside on top of his to-the-minute production is way too much to pass up.

max23ParticipantNow his biggest knocks are finishing ability and creating for his teammates. The second one not huge, but good improvement there would make him a franchise player.
I dont really care if he goes number 1,im not his agent or accountant.I do hope he goes to the right fit for him, with veteran leadership, great environnement to grow and realistic expectations.

jester0773ParticipantFinishing ability, yes. But he set up Selden with a wide open 3 in today’s game. He also plays lock down defense, which is a huge knock on Parker (especially at the next level).

max23ParticipantI didnt see that one.I did see him miss 2 open teammates on the fastbreak who would have dunked it.And on average, when he drives, he does so head down, like a train to the basket often hoping to get fouled, oblivious to his teammates.

drpg913ParticipantHe has to goto the Celtics. I feel they’re the only one’s who will be able to nurture his talent. He has to stay away from Sacremento that’s where Jayhawks go to die. Orlando would be a good place too. but every other lottery team would just be a toss up
But after today I’m extremely excited about what the future holds for him. He can get 30 and 41 in consecutive games and still leave you believing that the best is yet to come.

Big CParticipantI think it would be foolish to take Embiid over either Wiggins or Parker. To pass on possible franchise athletes like these for a big man with a injury history. I see the potential in Embiid just like everyone else, and I know he’s not Greg Oden, but I don’t think any team picking 1 or 2 can afford to blow the pick on a big man with back problems. I have a feeling Wiggins and Parker are the first 2 names called on draft night.

R.JLewisParticipantif i was a gm with pick i would be choosing parker or wiggins and even some others over embiid now. hes had niggles and now a pretty serious back at the age of 19. if this is the draft order at the end of the year
MIL: parker
PHI:wiggins
orlando: exum/randle
even though there are better players availabe at the 3rd pick i believe orlando might choose another guard and if not draft randle or vonleh

omphalosParticipantI’d still take Embiid first overall because his upside at his position is so high; there just aren’t that many Cs who will bother him after a few years in the NBA and being the best at your position is a very valuable trait.
As good as Paul George is, he’s not going to outperform Lebron or KD in a series, so a team built around him will be at a disadvantage in those match-ups.
As much as I love Wiggins as a prospect, the SF position is just too talented right now and will be for years to come, so unless they play him as a SG (which is possible) then he’s probably out of luck.
That said, I think Embiid’s injuries might scare people off and there’s a good chance Wiggins leapfrogs Parker based on upside with a strong showing in the tournament.

Land of GrantParticipantAndrew Wiggins is a different player from Paul George. He’s leaner, and more of a driver, and could well end up much better than George. They’re similar, but it’s naive to say that Paul George is his ceiling, or that they’re the same player.
Also, Jabari Parker is a small forward too.
I agree though that Joel Embiid could be the best center in the game, but with the NBA shifting away from defined positions and just with common sense, being the best at your position just doesn’t really matter – what matters is how much you can help your team. BTW, just to clarify, I think Wiggins and Embiid are 1a and 1b in this draft.

Ghost01ParticipantWhat exactly is Embiid’s potential?
He isn’t going to be Hakeem Olajuwan. People need to get that out their head. This guy struggled to score double digits in games. I’m not doubting his defensive potential, but offensively you can’t just cherry pick plays or games where he made a few nice moves without looking at the overall body of work.
Greg Oden was a much better prospect than him, and I’m not saying that’s a knock, just that his offensive game is so far from resembling what it takes to be a dominant "Win because of" championship level player.

Ebown5ParticipantI don’t think that it is really fair to say that Embiid has an "Injury history" here. He has been really healthy in general and currently has a back problem. Now obviously backs are big deals, but so are knees. There is no reason to believe at this point that he has any REAL long term problems. He is injured right now, but injuries happen.
If he declares(and I expect that he ultimately will) he will have a couple of months of rest and will be evaluated by team doctors. There is no reason to suspect that he will not have a clean bill of health at that time.
If he has a clean bill of health at that time then I think that he is still the best prospect. That doesn’t mean that every team would take him first, but many of them would. For example, I think that the Bucks, and the Celtics certainly would. The Sixers and the Magic might take Wiggins.
There are basically 4 or 5 players in this draft that are worthy of the number 1 pick in a regular year. How they ultimately settle out is yet to be determined, but on paper, and starting from scratch, I would say that Embiid is the guy you want to build your franchise around.

HaleParticipantHe’s been playing basketball for like three years now and has had back issues in at least two of them. He had stiffness at the end of last season. At the Hoops Summit he had back spasms. He missed time earlier this year with a back injury and now has a stress fracture. He clearly has an injury history and the wear and tear of NBA season isn’t going to make it any history.
