 I know hes only 18 but i dont see him being cordinated much at all. I heard the Amare and Dwight comparisons and athletically i see it but i just dont see the cordination at all. Hes obviously is gonna gain some but i dont see him ever being as cordinated as the two mentioned

His lateral movement on defense is VERY slow and if this doesn’t improve a lot he will be a bad defensive player

Being as big as Drummond is and able to do an alley-oop between the legs dunks takes some pretty incredible coordination. I’ve never seen Dwight or Amare do anything like that.

I really don’t see why he can never be on Amare’s level. I swear Amare is one of the most overrated players in the last ten years. Drummond shows far more rebounding and defensive ability. When Amare was Drummond’s age he was still playing HS ball…

It’s funny before this year started I predicted on this board that Drummond would average around 14 PPG, 9 RPG and 2.5 BPG. I was immediately told by many of the guys on this board that those kind of numbers would be expecting too much from Drummond in the rough and tumble Big East. Most of the veteran members on the board said to expect numbers more along the lines of 10-12 PPG, 7-8 RPG and 2 BPG. Turns out that those guys were right. However with Drummond averaging those kinds of numbers it seems his stock has dropped (at least with people on this forum).

When Amare was about Drummond’s age, he was the rookie of the year in the NBA. Amare’s NBA rookie season was arguably better than Drummonds college rookie season. Yeah Andre Drummond shows a lot of potential and athleticism…. so did Tyrus Thomas and Stromile Swift. I see Drummomd becoming more like Serge Ibaka than Amare. Finally, let’s never mention Dwight Howard and Drummond in the same sentence ever again, until we’ll have to say "Dwight Howard just posterized Drummond".

No. Amare was 20 when he was a rookie in the NBA. Drummond doesn’t even turn 19 for another 6 months.

Considering that bigs take the longerst to develop, I think it is too early to say what Drummond will or won’t be.  It could be over rated of could be a Howard/Amare type.  He actually has a better chance of being a Howard type than Amare type. 

Whatever your opinions about Amare, his game is more versatile than Howard.  He has actually has an outside jumper and is a pretty good passer and can dribble alright for a big guy.  Drummond will have to work considerbly more to get all of that.  I think dunking and blocking shots like Howard is more up Drummond’s alley.

The rest of the game should come to him with experience and good big man coaches.

Drummond looks like a kid who had size 12 shoes last year and has size 19 shoes this year. I dont see the elite athleticism that people are talking about either, but he also is bigger and stronger than Howard and Amare were at his age.

I think he should be more compared to Andrew Bynum/Brendan Heywood in terms of a ceiling to floor comp.

He’s been sidetracked by injuries a couple times, but when he’s been healthy, he’s nearly unstoppable on offense. It would be interesting to see what could have been before the microfracture surgery.

I’d bet you anything Davis is better with the ball right now than KG was at this age.

 Amare before the first knee injury was incredible and was in no way overrated. He absolutely dominated people. After that he hasn’t been the same, but still good.

He is an offensive force. Of course injuries slowed him down and limited his jumping ability. But he has developed a reliable jump shot.

Can Drummond do that sure, maybe in time, but right now the comparisions to Amare are way off.

Drummond is more of a defensive player.

 I was just addressing the comment by DwightHoward. He’s been overrated for awhile now, but in 04-05 he was amazing. He made Tim Duncan (the NBA Finals MVP, and NBA All 1st team D) his bitch that whole season. He averaged 37 and 10 against the Spurs in the playoffs and in 3 regular season appearances 38.7 ppg on the Spurs. He’s never been a great rebounder or defender, but he was unstoppable down low that year.

 Does anybody remenber Amare’s rookie year when he was the age of college sophomores but just coming out of high school?  Amare didn’t do anything but dunk off of lobs from Nash because he ran the floor hard and was occasionally capably of taking 2 dribbles from the foul line and dunking.  The skill set was there for Amare but he didn’t know how to use it in game and didn’t have the confidence to do it.  Once that came he took off.

The same thing goes for Drummond.  He has the skill set he just don’t know how to use it in games.  If you watched Enes Kanter play for the Jazz this season you’d think he was just another big who could rebound but had no moves in the post, but Kanter got a ton of post moves he don’t know how to use yet in the game.  Drummond is going to make an easier transition to the league then most people realize because in the pro’s he’s gonna learn how to run the floor hard, and considering he’s faster then most big men on this planet he’s going to become a force doing that.  Look at what Marcin Gortat is doing based on pure athleticism, size, and running.  Deandre Jordan too.  Jordan get’s a lot of points because of the pace the Clippers play at, he wouldn’t get anywhere near them highlight dunks if he played on a team like the Bucks that likes to sit on the ball til the shot clock expires.

Drummond has a ton of agility but he moves similar to LeBron in that he moves with power and not grace.  He does look kinda clumsy sometimes but that’s just a maturation process.

For like 3 possessions in a row in the 2nd half he looked dominant. Dont think they use him right. Agree that based on what I heard about his shooting touch, his shot looks shockingly poor/awkward. He is definitely a beast tho.
