OhCanada-ParticipantI think I just saw the worst OT performance in my life.
Ive been saying Drummond is overrated for most of his career. Im done sugar coating it after watching tonights game vs. Milwaukee. In the ‘what is next for Detroit’ thread I was nice about it but I think its time to talk about how bad of a player this guy is.
Drummond does nothing well but rebound the ball. He isnt even a capable rim runner because he has no understanding on when to break for the rim. He doesnt use his athletisism to run the floor. He doesnt use his strength and size to be a presence in the paint.
Thon Maker just lit him up for 23 points. 9-12 from the field 4-7 from three. It was hard to watch. Not only that be the Bucks dominated the paint.
The overtime sequence for Drummond was terrible. He missed a layup 2 feet from the rim got fouled and missed both free throws. Late running back on defence which allowed Maker to get a layup in transition but even worse is he couldve attempted a block but instead just swiped at the ball like a gaurd would on the break. Next possession gets an offensive rebound which is good but he dribbles the ball to the corner and gets trapped resulting in a jump ball which he won. Lets Maker take an uncontested 3 which was missed. Lets Giannis take an uncontested layup right next to him which was missed. Lets Maker take another uncontested 3 which he hits. Then tries a behind the back pass which goes out of bounds and gets pulled half way through the 4th for Aaron Baynes.
Detroit played well in this game and even I was frustrated with watching the game slip away feom them. Yall gotta get rid of this guy.

OhCanada-ParticipantAlmost forgot my main point here. Drummond had Thon Maker on him all night and finished with 7 points and 2 assists. He has about 100 pounds on Maker.

Robb_CParticipantI think your watching an unmotivated Andre Drummond, He clearly doesnt not buy into what SVG is selling.. His game is predicated on how focused he is on the defensive end.. I believe Drummond is going through the motions and isn’t playing up to his potential.
Im not defending Drummond, I believe the guy has a duty to perform for the fans who pay to watch him play. I just think Drummond is tired of Van Gundys neurotic personality and its coming out in the wash so to speak.

esperanzafleet69Participantdrummond needs to realize what it takes to be a champion.. EXTREME hard work, dedication, and a work ethic to be the best, which judging be his FT shooting he doesnt have..
stan’s in the unfortounate situation where he had to coach and build around dwight howard, then move on to a worse situation with andre. i think with this season, reggie being out for the first half, they didnt have much hope to begin with.. which could fall on stan for sure to not get them motivated.. on the other hand i HIGHLY doubt any of their highly played players that took max contracts kept on working at their game in the offseason. if you pay a player an immense amount of money like that you expect a return on your investment. speaking frankly, idk if i’d personally renew my tickets if they fired stan and kept these overpayed unmotivated players. them not buying into his philosophy is their own problem. at this point i’m trusting in van gundy way more, he’s a coach that has lead teams to finals. outside of a handful of these backup players, none of them have made it out of the first round…

esperanzafleet69Participantgod.. as much as i love the stones (season ticket holder…), i have to 100% agree with you.. drummond is starting to look like an enourmous waste of money. literally the only things he does well are run the floor and rebound. he’s improved his post game a little, but holy hell, i cant understand how ANYONE can shoot that poorly from the FT line.. every time he’s there i have to turn away or turn the channel..
i’m almost starting to feel bad for stan because all of this is going to be put on him when it absolutely shouldnt be… the only thing stopping these kids from being great is themselves.

OhCanada-ParticipantBefore I said that SVG should get fired but I think he deserves a chance to coach this team without Drummond being there. Kinda makes sense. The Marjanovic signing, drafting Ellenson and Drummond being mysteriously on the trade block all year. They obviously cant move him and will likely have to end up settling for similar value as what Philly got for Noel, maybe less because of his terrible contract. But he probally wont get moved and SVG will end up taking the fall.

esperanzafleet69Participantidk man, it will be interesting what Tom Gores thinks about this.. you dont give a person both coach/gm roles unless you have faith.. honestly i think the problem is that all the players are playing the blame game instead of trying to lift themselves out of mediocracy. sure we’ve had injuries and whatnot, but holy smokes keep it together. straight losses against knicks, nets, bulls, magic are ridiculous (are they TRYING to tank??). other than KCP, there hasnt been another player that has made really any strides in skill at all. marcus morris have provided stretches of consistency, but he doesnt have the skill to carry a team.
previously our teams were built out of great TEAMwork and playing the game in an unselfish RIGHT way. it seems in today’s NBA that doesnt exist anymore(maybe outside of the warriors?)..
this really makes me want to re-sign baynes, hopefully trade andre/reggie, blow it up again, and restart.

Drummond or Olynyk?
We all know the right answer

BasterdInABasketParticipantThis is usually a game where Maker doesn’t get many minutes since a center of Drummonds size would usually have his way with him and Bucks would have to bring in moose. Drummond was such a non factor I forgot he was even playing for stretches. Detroit didn’t have many chances to get out and run and anytime he gets the ball he can’t do anything with it and looked to pass
