Andre Drummond commits to UConn and he’s Class of 2011. we are handing to you guys a year early adjust ur rankings

    http://twitter.com/#!/DaveTelep/status/107242406121975808

    Wow UCONN might repeat…

    PG-Napier

    SG-Lamb

    SF-Daniels/Smith

    PF-Oriakhi

    C-Drummond

IMO they match up very well with OSU, UNC, and Kentucky.

Wow! I did not see this coming. I had Uconn number one in the Big East before this and now they are definitely above Cuse and Lville in my eyes.

So he’s going this year or after 2012? If he’s going this year, it’s pretty official he’s declaring for the 2012 Draft right?

Yeah he is suiting up this year for the Huskies…and even if he has a disappointing season there’s no doubt he’ll declare for the 2012 draft.

This will only help Lamb’s stock rise even more, since he will not be keyed on as much as he would with Kemba gone. I expect big numbers from Lamb now, watch out he could be that Corey Brewer (NOT my player comparison) type of player to sneak up how he did at UF.

I believe UConn will get the scholarship either from a walk-on or maybe he’ll even take away a scholarship from one of his current players.

I just know that when the most talented player in highschool comes knocking, you can’t say no.

Wow, I’m very surprised he decided to play for them this year. UConn now has a legit shot at repeating.

I’m not sure how smart this was for Drummond though, his stock can’t really get much higher.  Still I can’t wait to see how he plays this year.

I’ll wait to hear his statement first. If this is true, I may not be as depressed by the lack of NBA this year as the NCAA is going to have some real talent this upcoming season.

Where you puttin UCONN now JNixon if they are in fact getting Drummond for the upcoming year? Ahead of Duke or just behind? I personally still don’t see them ahead of either UNC or Duke, but they’ll be close.

When I heard about him going back to high school, I didn’t think it was a smart decision, because:

1: NBA scouts can’t go to the games, practices, etc

2: He wouldn’t have the right coaching to make him get better(if that’s possible).

I feel that he fits in very well with Jeremy Lamb, Alex Oriakhi, and Shabazz Napier. The only thing they lack is a dominant small forward, and an extremely talented core of guards, which, is the main reason they will have a tough time keeping up with North Carolina and Kentucky. UNC and UK have stacked backcourts, and star small forwards. To keep up with the likes of Kentucky and UNC, it will take bonding, and good chemistry to make it all work.

He might not be "dominant" but freshman DeAndre Daniels is certainly very skilled. The #10 player in the 2011 class according to Rivals and the #3 SF, has all the talent in the world and could certainly make a solid impact for UCONN as a 19 year old freshman. If Drummond, Daniels, Lamb and Napier all play up to expectations (although it is a big IF that all the stars will line up correctly) the Huskies should be the favorites to repeat.

I love this move. I agree that it’s the best thing for him; you could put his low motor down to playing against clearly inferior competition in HS, but being faced by bigger bodies every game in college should motivate him and give him an opportunity to shed that low motor label.

Nice to see a player willing to step up, because another year of prep school would have been useless for his development.

Not only does UConn have the best backcourt in BIG EAST, but now they will have the best frontcourt. UConn should be ranked preseason #1 IMO. They have a great mix of championship experience and elite level talent. As talented as UNC, Kentucky and Duke are, UConn’s experience and with the addition of Drummond puts them over the top.

Not sure Duke and UNC had that much of a chance, because as was written in a discussion not long ago (remember Bmore_DC?), one guy came to the conclusion that Duke and UNC took the best players that would fit in their program, and these players generally stay 3-4 years in college, which is not what Drummond, considering his sky-high stock, would have done. This is not the case at all for Kentucky (2-3 one-and-dones per year I guess) and, to a lesser extent, UConn, so Drummond had to chose between both of these colleges. He must’ve choosed UConn cuz he comes from there.

I remember last year at this time we were already talking how 2012draft was going to be very good and deep because of freshmen Miller Davis Gilchrist McAdoo Rivers alone..then Harrison stays same with Sully Perry and Terrence Jones, Lamb too and that made draft GREAT..so how would you call it now with Drummond almost guaranteed to declare?

I agree with Dwight Howard, this team does not need a dominant SF. Connecticut has more depth at the three than any other position with Daniels, Roscoe Smith, and Niels Giffey. Smith had a pretty good freshman season playing both the 3 and 4 averaging over 6ppg as a 4th or 5th option. Giffey started a lot at the three, but was in the game for his defense which is okay when you had Kemba Walker and Jeremy Lamb in your backcourt. And last but not least is Daniels who is a highly touted wing scorer.

As for where the scholarship comes from, I think they will first look for someone to give up their scholarship for a year like Kyle Kuric did for Lville or if they need to force someone to transfer I think that will be Enosch Wolf who is expendable with Oriakhi, Drummond, Smith and Olander at the 4 and 5.

Whoever can obtain multiple first round draft picks and maybe even 2 top 15 picks will be having a bright future.  The draft going to be insane !

Solid move by Andre, he’s going to a successful team and has a top running mate in Lamb and will be playing for a HOF Coach in Jim Calhoun. The 2012 draft officially just got even stonger assuming that Andre will be one and done.

Wow, maybe a team like the Clips or Cavs should hope that there is no season, cause Drummond could change the entire course of a franchise.

Oriahki snd Drummond are going to absolutely kill opposing front court. BTW, whoever said Daniels was going to make an impact as a freshamn, I agree. Not much will be expected of him other than being able to hustle, play athletic, and give a few points here aqnd there. IMO, this team is VERY balanced.

Any predictions on a stat line for Drummond in his freshman year? I’m gonna say 16.2 PPG, 10.5 RPG, 3 BPG, 2 APG.

Wow, if he puts up those #s he’s for sure the #1 pick. I’ll be a lil more conservative and just throw out 13ppg 8rpg 2bpg. Still real good for frosh.

Blake Griffin alongside Andre Drummond for the Clippers would be a dream for all their fans. I think that Andre going to UCONN is great for Jeremy Lamb as well as it takes a lot of the hype off him but he’ll still be on every GM’s radar as they will have to watch Andre in action.

13 and 8 sound more realistic for the Big East.
