CanadianGMParticipantWith Cleveland having a team option of 9.8 million, I know he is Lebrons buddy but why would they pick that up. He has only played 150 games in the 4 years that Lebron was in Miami and is taking up a good portion of their available cap space. Comparatively they could net Mike Miller 3.5 million, maybe Ray Allen 2 million, Andray Blatche- 2 million, Ed Davis- 3 million. Even Emeka Okafor or Greg Oden could probably be had for the veteran minimum.
I know Lebron must have really valued his presence as they traded away 2012 1 st round pick Zeller, 2013 1 st round pick S Karasev and a future 1 st rounder to clear less in cap space than just declining his TEAM option. Lebron mentioned him specifically in his SI article. My point is that players on team options taking up 9.8 million on championship contenders should be more than role players with huge question marks. Typically role players with injury question marks could be had for the veteran minimum. I would hope they could trade him to a team looking to clear salary space and perhaps resign him to more team friendly deal. Perhaps they keep him for the year and overpay him with the idea of bringing him back next year for veteran minimum when they could use his 9.8 million cap hold more effectively on somebody else. I just thought there would be better options with their remaining cap space now that Lebron is back.
Thoughts?

Mr. HookShotParticipantMaybe decline and sign him for a similar amount but then for 3 years (with the final year a team option)? This would enable them to keep James happy, have a solid big man, and potentially let him go when James potentially leaves as well after two years.

barbabodomParticipantYou can argue about his durability, not about his importance. He´s not just a role player, he´s the ultimate team player. Lebron likes Andy not because they play cards together, but because his on and off the court contribuitions

WITNESS2014ParticipantI would like to see them just restructure his deal for 3 years with a lot less each year. Andy seems like the player who would do this as he is a team first kind of guy and just wants to win again. The Cavs really just need a shot blocking center to be in the rotation with Thompson, Varejao, and Bennett. The backcourt and wings are set. I love what Varejao brings to the table but he isnt worth the near 10 million he is making this year.
