ChicagoCaseyParticipantIt looks like the AmeriLeague is a done deal due to the fact that the founder of the league have fount out to be an ex-fraud named Glendon Alexander. Here’s the link to the artical is right here – espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/13944043/amerileague-founder-tells-operations-manager-persona-fake-lines.
I have to admit I was wrong when I said the league will be great, but I believe the plan for this league was great. I believe a semi-pro basketaball league that can get fringe NBA players, top US overseas players, and top high school players would have be an outstanding league.I and most of NBA fans would watch this league over the NCAA due to the fact that I believe NBA fans watch college basketball mostly because of the top high school players.

oogellsParticipantDude is such a con man. I had the pleasure of coaching against him and beating him soundly when he was at ABCD. He looked and acted like a cartoon character pimp on the sidelines. Can’t see how the league exists now sadly. But with the press it got and interest from fans someone is bound to try again.

whiteflashParticipantDidn’t read the link, but is that the same Glendon Alexander that was a McD’s All-American? Went to OU (I think), never amounted to much then kept gettin’ in trouble. Now that I think about it, it HAS to be the same dude.

whiteflashParticipantActually still have that game on VHS. It was the same class as Bryant, Corey Benjamin, Tim Thomas, Lester Earl…. They kept talking about what a great scorer Alexander is but he looked lost out there. If I’m not mistaken, he was Texas’ all time leading scorer. He might be one of those dude’s who was told (and believes) he’d be the hottest thing since pants with pockets then just plain wasn’t good enough and snapped.

Memphis MadnessParticipantEither the NBA needs to do better with the D League, or they need to bring back the ABA.
There actually is an ABA but it is a minor, minor thing.
Use the D League as a third string league and the ABA as a AAA minor league system with 30 teams in bigger markets. Take the current D League teams and then get some of the old ABA towns back into the fold.
The NEW D League can be an 8-12 team league run by the NBA with actual DEVELOPMENT. Use it to develop collegiate upper classmen who can someday break into the ABA (and beyond). Maybe do territorial picks for the D League.
For this particular edition of the D League you can start the season RIGHT AFTER NBA Summer League. Then end the season during the NBA All Star Weekend. Why not have a single elimination playoff for the D League title? Take only the top 4 teams in the D League playoffs (4 playoff teams out of 12 teams). Then have the D League Final Four at NBA All Star Weekend. … I would also do ABA All Star Events during the NBA All Star Weekend (ABA All Star game, dunk contest, 3 point shootout, and 4 point shootout — gonna bring the 4 point line to the new ABA).

Robb_CParticipantIts funny you mention the ABA, the current owner of the ABA is waiting for something like this to happen.. Also some of the teams in the ABA are pretty solid and have talent.. Look at the Jacksonville Giants, Chicago Steam and Arizona Scorpions.. Lots of these teams have former nba players on rosters.. The ABA just has to be more strict in its screening.. It seems like anyone could start a team and I also know for a fact lots of these teams in the ABA are used to launder money..

Rip256Come play in the Australian League. NBA teams have used it as a development league in recent seasons and loaned out players.
Examples include recent draftees DeAndre Daniels, James Ennis.
The players love it. Josh Childress is the face of the league. Hes still got mad game and gets booed like crazy.

Rip256Get paid 150k for 6 mths work. Plenty of opportunities for commercial deals too. And just chill at the beach between training sessions.
The white guys can work on their tan
The black guys that dont swim can just mack on white women in bikinis.
I’m currently acting as an agent for any Pros that think they can mix it with the likes of Josh Childress.

Memphis MadnessParticipantHow much are these teams?
We could all pitch in and buy a club. Then we could all make the team. I think I would be a pretty good 3rd string point guard. I can’t run, dribble, or barely pass well but I am fairly decent in half court basketball running the point. I pretty much just pass it to the guy who is open then get out of the way. Who knew?
If I bought a team I would go after Jason Williams and DJ Stephens. J Will can still pass and dribble. He would sell tickets. DJ Stephens is a great freak athlete. If he doesn’t make the Cavs (or another NBA squad) he could sell tickets, too. Oh, and give me Jimmer Fredette and DaJuan Wagner (if the AmeriLeague goes AmeriBust). Those guys can light it up (on 40% shooting but so what?). At center, get me Hasheem Thabeet. So bad it’s funny, but he is still tall, long, … and tall.
Not sure if the pieces would fit but a lineup of J Will, Jimmer, D Wags (3 guard lineup baby!), DJ Stephens, and Hasheem "The Big Mall" Thabeet would be/should be fun to watch. Off the bench gimme the guys from the 2000 NBA Draft (SO BAD!!!), Brian Scalabrine AND Michael Rappaport. You always need a couple of white guys at the end of the bench that make the OTHER GUYS on the team look like ACTUAL BASKETBALL PLAYERS.
My head coach would be Nick Nolte aka the actor who played the coach in Blue Chips. He actually had a sound basketball strategy aka do the pick and roll two man game with Penny Hardaway and Shaq and let the big white dude hit jumpers and rebound. Like, duh! But, STILL better than Scott Brooks!
I think I would rather watch those guys than the Grizzlies, Mavs, and Nets if they merged to form a Super Team.
P.S. Oh wait! Let’s go get Brian Cardinal to form the 3 Headed White Guy 12th Man.
P.P.S. T-Mac. Gotta go out and get T-Mac. My new 6th man. You can’t out T-Mac T-Mac (even 50 year old T-Mac). And, he still does T-Mac things.
P.P.P.S. Ok, this might be the greatest team of all-time.
