Well, this is bound to work. Organizers are hoping to form a new basketball league made up entirely of white Americans. The All-American Basketball Alliance announced in a press release that they hope to launch a 12-team league featuring nothing but guys who look like Greg Kite. They hope to start play by June, 2010.

So why create an all-white basketball league? To protect our delicate sensibilities from such horrific scenes as the slam dunk and alley-oop.

“It has come to the attention of the principals of the (All-American Basketball Alliance) that [W]hite basketball players are essentially ’shut out’ of conventional professional basketball due to the proliferation of non-organized play on the court. With players on other professional teams carrying guns, attacking fans in the stands, and going through the motions of playing the game, fundamentally sound [W]hite players are a vanishing species.

Of course, the league won’t just exclude African-Americans. It will exclude foreign-born players, including players from Europe (what does Europe know about white people, anyway?) The exclusion of dirty foreigners will no doubt protect Americans from the hot-dogging, shucking-and-jiving style of Yao Ming and Georghe Muresan, not to mention that commie Steve Nash, who masquerades as a fundamentally-sound white American when he is really, gasp, Canadian.

The AABA and its idea of creating an all white basketball league is no doubt playing on age-old perceptions of how basketball is played. White players play fundamental basketball focused on passing and shooting while African-Americans play a more athletic undisciplined game. Europeans and foreigners, at least in the eyes of AABA, don’t seem to matter.

Of course, such an idea is not just offensive and most likely illegal, it’s just plain stupid. This idea that white players play fundamental basketball should have died back when Pistol Pete Maravich was wearing floppy socks for LSU. And God forbid anyone mention that may have never been a more fundamentally sound basketball player than Oscar Robertson (The Big O even wrote a book about it).

The real question is who exactly is going to play in this league? Even if they select white Americans (a nebulous idea at best considering just how murky the idea of race is), it’s not likely they’re all going to play the game these the AABA wants. Today’s generation of basketball players at every level grew up watching great African-American players like Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and LeBron James. The only way they could eliminate the so-called insidious influence of streetball would be to fill their rosters with 60-year-olds. Hey, Dolph Schayes is still alive, maybe they should sign him.

Instead of starting an all-white basketball league, maybe AABA organizers should just watch Hoosiers on DVD all day and pine for a bygone era that never really existed.

This is just ridiculous. This is just an excuse for white people to claim inferiority and superiority to the world. They are superior because they play basketball the “correct” way but they are inferior because they arent athletic?? This is just stupid. I think there should be more sub levels of professional basketball other than the ABA but excluding a person because of the color of their skin or because of where they were born is just crazy. There is BET but its okay if black people are call out race. Do you all remember “Chocolate News” that was all about what black people wanted to hear about? This kind of thing would never float if there were a station called WET (White Entertainment Television) or a news program all about white people and they make racist comments all the time. Seriously, this guy had to be the flashiest guy to come into the NBA in a long time, while Tim Duncan had to be the most fundamentally sound guy to come around in a long time. There really aren’t many guys close to either one that are playing. It’s hard to be that flashy and get into the NBA because it generally results in a ton of turnovers and mistakes, by the same token players of all races and elasticities are so much more athletic that it seems most of them don’t work on their full game as much. Also most guys don’t stay in college as long to develop and it’s hard to blame them because it seems like their draft stock tends to go down the longer they play in college.

yeah, i remember when JWill came into the league, everyone was in awe of some of his moves on sportscenter. I went to a couple of his rookie games and he would make the simplest pass look exciting. Unfortuatley he never played d or had good decision making early in his career.

An ALL WHITE LEAGUE? Come on now!! Nobody care whut color a person’s skin is an long as he can play..Most of the people that buy tickets to nba games are white..And 75% of the nba is black..Fans go to see entertaining basketball..This is a diss to all white players..They’re saying you’re not good enuff to play in the best league in the world… The best thrive on playing against the best..I can recall Larry Bird saying in an interview a few years ago..That he felt he was being dissed if an opposing coach had only white players guard him..I do believe that unless you’re a top white college prospect and a 1st round pick..You have to get with the right team and fill a certain role they’re looking to fill…Look the nba has gone from a league that main emphasis was on fundamentals..To now placing its focus on athleticism…Thats 1 of the reason black players like Boozer,Zack Randolph & Hibbert went so late in the draft..Scouts said they werent very athletic..You cant judge whuts in a person’s heart…
