What’s the best starting 5 you can think of from your favorite college? I’m a huge Badgers fan, so here’s WI’s starting 5:

    G: Devin Harris

    G: Jordan Taylor

    F: Michael Finley

    F: John Kotz (apparently a 2 time All-America in the 40’s)

C: Brian Butch (he was on the HS A-A team w/ Lebron and co, haha)

Clearly, Wisconsin isn’t much of a basketball school, in terms of NBA talent. I’m sure y’all can do better!

BRIAN BUTCH??!!?? cmon man! Maybe the most hyped Badger but he was a college bust… How about Claude Gregory their All time leading rebounder and 20-10, Mike Wilkinson, Jon Leuer, Alando Tucker- all time leading scorer…

These were my MU and UW teams I made that I seen, tough for me to judge old players like Bo Ellis, Danny Jones.

UNC is my favorite team of all time, but in a reality after going through the lists, it would just be unfair. I’d have to make a 1st,2nd,and 3rd team and STILL leave some greats out.

I know, I already chose the Ducks. Nonetheless, I kind of love the Bruins basketball tradition (though I am not the fan that llperez is, despite his not picking them to win the Pac-12 :). Still here is what their team would probably look like, if you based it on combined college and NBA success:

    PG Gail Goodrich

    SG Reggie Miller

    SF Marques Johnson

PF Bill Walton (I know he was a C, but to me he is arguably the 2nd best college player of All-Time behind Lew Alcindor/Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Yes, ahead of Maravich, Robertson and whoever else you want to pull out)

    C Lew Alcindor/Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

    Bench:

    G Baron Davis

    G Russell Westbrook

    G Walt Hazzard/Mahdi Abdul-Rahman

    F Jamaal Wilkes

    F Kiki Vandeweghe

    F Kevin Love

    C Sidney Wicks

    Honorable Mention:

F Don McLean (All-Time Leading scorer in school history, if it were based on college success alone, he is on the team)

F Ed O’Bannon (Again, based on college alone, tough to leave him off the team)

C Mark Eaton (If you want shot blocking, he is your guy. I assume they have enough height with Alcindor and Walton though)

F Willie Naulls (4 Time All-Star, 3rd Team All-America in 1955-56, before UCLA dynasty days)

G/F Tracy Murray (Had a decent NBA run, but his last year of college, over 21 ppg on 53% from the field and 50% from 3, 78/156, which means he made over 2 per game at that awesome percentage)

G Darren Collison (Looked like a potential All-Time Great after his sophomore year, but getting held to a donut against D-Rose in the Final Four definitely had his prestige taking a hit. Still had a very solid career, playing in 3 Final Fours and one NCAA Final. Plus, off to a nice start to his NBA career as well)

G Lucius Allen (Awesome guard for UCLA who played with Alcindor)

C Swen Nater (Big man from the Netherlands, did very little in college serving as Bill Walton’s back-up, but went on to a decent ABA/NBA career)

G Arron Afflalo (Great contributor for three years, even winning Pac-10 POY his junior season and gaining 1st Team All-America honors)

F David Greenwood (10.2 and 7.9 for his NBA career and a two time 1st Team All-America at UCLA)

F Curtis Rowe (1 time All-Star, 2nd Team All-America his last season at UCLA)

G Pooh Richardson (4 year starter averaged a very solid 6.8 assists per game for his career at UCLA. Went on to be 10th pick in the NBA Draft and finished with averages of 11.1 ppg and 6.5 apg)

Other notable current NBA guys are Jordan Farmar, Jrue Holiday, Trevor Ariza, Luc Richard Mbah a Moute, Earl Watson, Jason Kapono and Matt Barnes.

    Rico,

Wasn’t Sherman Douglas better at Syracuse than Johnny Flynn was? I’m pretty sure Sherman Douglas averaged about 18 points and nine assists per contest.

He had epic battles with Chris Smith from gtown. He was way better than Flynn.  I would also put Lawrence Moten in the SG spot over Jason Hart imo.

As Andrew and Paul said, Sherman Douglas deserves a starting nod of Flynn. Also, Pearl Washington, Lawrence Moten and Hakim Warrick deserve at least mentions.

    Florida

PG – Jason Williams: he only played 20 games at Florida after transferring from Marshall and before getting kicked off the team for drug use. But those 20 games were pretty amazing; 17.1 PPG, 6.7 APG and 2.7 APG. Certainly the most talented PG ever at Florida.

SG – Vernon Maxwell: Mad Max averaged over 19 PPG for each of his final three seasons in Gaineville.

SF – Mike Miller: A born leader, he played significant minutes as soon as he stepped on the court as a freshman. Left after his sophomore year when he averaged 14.1 PPG, 6.6 RPG and 2.5 APG but his numbers would’ve probably hit All-American levels had he stayed a year longer.

PF – Joakim Noah: Really difficult choice here over Al Horford (who was more of a center anyway), Ronnie Williams and Udonis Haslem. Williams put up the best numbers but Joakim was the heart and soul of back to back championship teams.

C – Neil Walk: Probably best remembered (if at all remembered) as the guy drafted just after Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Walk was a two time All-American that averaged 26.5 PPG and 19.8 RPG as a junior and 24 PPG and 17.2 RPG as a senior.

It was based strictly on potential I really believe he’s gonna be an amazing player for wasington and beyond . Wasginton is a good school but compared to UNC Duke etc you can’t really compare
