valentineGreat entertainment today for draft junkies. Lots of trades, surprises and more to come.
I welcome your comment on the following:
1). Philly unable to get a deal done – Scarecrow, Negguary, Nbajunkie, Circumlocution and others have been hypping Okafors trade value on here to a largely lukewarm response from fans of other teams. It seems GMs agreed with the rest of the forum…and Philly couldnt get another high pick they really wanted.
2. Boston: I feel like they took a step back today. Their division rivals are getting stronger and they seem to be flat footed. I think the ‘Boston being contenders’ talk was just unwarranted hype..at least until they get an All-NBA free agent. This was a 48 win team who beat up on weak division foes…
3. Skal Labissiere: I’ll leave it up to those who had Skal in the lottery to tell me what they saw that made them think NBA teams would draft him. Putting him in the Green Room was cruel and unusual punishment. Going to Sacramento is brutal…but at least he gets a 1st round salary…because his basketball career was 2 picks away from being non existant.
4. An unamed Rival draft site was dreadful today and over the last few nonths. I really feel like the entire industry lost respect for them due to making their agenda so transparent. The Maker and Simmons hate campaigns really blew up in their face…and a lot of people on this forum and in the media fell for it too. Hopefully people see the site for what it is and know better than to trust them. Meanwhile, Kudos to draftnet for maintaining their integrity throughout, even if they had a couple of shockers today….but who didnt?
5. Trades….I feel like Orlando and Brooklyn got poor return on their investment. I realise both had to do something since they were already in a bad spot…but the other teams in the trade just got so much better from the deal.
6. Are GMs falling out of love with American players? Seems like the development system at a youth level is losing ground to internationals.
Thoughts?

Taylor Gang MikeParticipantI knew Maker would go top 10.. Too much talent. Sixers only got Simmons, gotta build around him. Jaylen Brown at 3??Really Boston?? And this is the end of Rubio?? Lavine, Wiggins, Towns and Dunn is great.

EndlessknightParticipantCount me as a Sixers fan who’s glad no deal got done. I much rather no deal than a bad one. Coangelo telegraphed his hand about Dunn and I’m sure teams tried to low ball him because everyone knows he need/wanted a trade. I’m glad he stuck to his guns and didn’t just give Okafor away. Honestly does anyone really think Brown will turn out to be a better player that Okafor?
I’m very happy the way the draft turned out the Sixers, can’t believe both Luwawu and Korkmaz were there in the 20’s.

Hype MachineAgree that no deal is better than a bad deal. So whats next?
Teams might be more desperate to deal if they strike out in free agency and give Philly more leverage.
Not loving the Boston pick at all.

llperez1- philly needs to figure out somehting with their lineup. Simons might play point forward but he cant shoot, needs floor spacers around him so he can drive, and the sixers dont have that right now. The best returning guys are okafor, noeal, ish smith and embid if he’s healthy and none of them can shoot. So they need to figure somehting out if they want to build around simmons,
2-boston was never a contender. They are good and will again compete for playoffs and give anyone a hard game. but they were never ever contenders. As for tonights draft, only time will tell. They drafted 3 guys in jaylen brown, yabusele and zizc that are all question marks so of course people will be skeptical. But we would be crazy to judge young guys with upside so early.
3-the skal thing is funny. He litteraly did nothing in 1 year of college to warrant a lotto pick. I mean even guys that are raw grab boards or breakout from time to time. So funny to see draft sites and "experts" stick with him all based on hype while ignoring reality.
4- no idea how dx did overall compared to this site, but i do know dx made themselves look stupid with that whole month+ of simmons not going #1 while they wrote an article about how his character was suspect only to tuck tail weeks before the draft when they realized what every single other person already knew, simmons was going #1.
However DX also got some things right that this site missed. They have had hernangomez in the first round for awhile while Aran was asleep on him having him in the second. Im real high on hernangomez and felt he had lotto potential so i was surprised this site slept for so long. Also Aran had baldwin second round while dx had him middle of the first right up until the nba announced baldwin was invited to the green room and aran within hours shot baldwin up 20 spots so he didnt look too good there either.
5-yup, brooklyn and orlando both look bad for their trades in my eyes.
6-i think nba gm’s just feel like these american guys with average talent are a dime a dozen where they can sign them as undrafted free agents, or pick other young free agents who have washed out after a year or two with other teams, or scout the dleague or whatever. Where with euro’s there is a sense of the unknown, they can hope to find a dimaond in the rough that might not be readily available for the next 5 years like many young americans.

NBAjunkie81Participantwhen you consider the Slop roster he played with last year………… but Perception normally wins out – especially w/ Draft picks……. & Boston was really the Only team in the Top 15 that Wanted an Established NBA player…….. the rest of the GM’s on Bad teams are Selling "HOPE"
Every fan gets googly eyed w/ All the Draft hype………. just a year ago the analysts on espn slobbering all over D’Angelo Russell AND Jahlil Okafor
& tonight they just shit all over Both of them—— but that’s how it goes……. I think Phila fans should be Very happy that Colangelo held firm……..
Aigne was probably working on a 3 team trade w/ Chicago to get Butler & the Bull sget Okafor or Noel but I’m sure they wanted one of Phila’s Treasure trove of High 1st round picks next year or the year after…….. & Colangelo just shut it down……… Aigne’s head must’ve exploded b/c the Jaylen Brown picked almost felt like Spite…………. I don’t believe Brown will do Anything for the Celtics this year — I’ll be Very surprised if he Even gets on the Floor next season…….
I’ve watched Jaylan Brown a 1/2 Dozen times this year & I was Shocked he was even in the Lottery – he just does Not even stand out on his own team at Cal —— I think Aigne was Crazy to pick him at #3……
Playing w/ Ben Simmons & Saric & Embiid & whoever Colangelo brings it to play guard will Swell Okafor & Noel’s value & by the trade deadline Aigne will be Begging for Noel or Okafor – —– either of whom would be a Great Fit on a Very good Boston team……..
Noel in the middle of those rugged Celtics guards – Smart & Bass – would be a Nightmare in the playoffs…… I really think Aigne out gamed himself tonight……… When Phila offered Noel — Aigne should’ve Snapped it up……………..
I’d have Loved to seen Noel in Boston or Okafor……. but I Luv what Colangelo got for Phila at #24 & #26 – Kormatz & Luwalu…… That’s Crazy….. Both are Great fits for Philly & they can Stash them another year……. plus they have Two top 10 picks in the 2017 Lottery……
Boston’s picks made No sense at all to me…. hoepfully the C’s get the #1 pick in 2017….. the Brooklyn Thad Young trade helped Boston alot

BleedGreen808ParticipantDuring the draft process I’ve been hoping Danny wouldn’t trade the 3rd pick to Philly for Okafor or Noel. Over the past couple weeks I narrowed it down to Bender, Brown, Dunn as players I liked at 3. Yabusele was a surprise at 16 but there were quite a few international players going higher than expected. Boston needed a physical center so Zizic was a great pick up at 23.

CU.LIONSParticipantFirst off, concerning Okafor, it has been reported that Boston preferred Noel first (but wanted Okafor thrown in a deal as well.)
as for people surprised at J Brown, I am not sure why. He is very athletic with a great NBA body and a potentially great defender. Needs better outside shooting. Though I preferred Bender, I think Ainge was thinking that it will take Bender too long to make a big impact since he is so young (18)
Boston really wanted J Winslow last year, and JB may be the more talented version this year.
Philly still doesn’t have a good back court. Trades may still happen. time will tell.

MatosParticipant– I think Philly doesn’t truly care about addressing the PG situation this year since next year is loaded with PG talent. Love the two pics in the 20’s. Good pieces, although they may be stashed. Combine the two lottery picks next year and this team will be a force over the next few years after that.
– Seriously, someone tell me WTF Sacramento is doing. Why not try to trade up to get a player like Murray. In the past two drafts they selected Cauley-Stein (same position as Cousins) + Georgios Papagiannis + Skal (Both post players). If they’re going straight rebuild mode and have plans to get Cousins out of there, then these are ok moves (although still better options out there), but otherwise bad.
Celtics seriously could not have panned out worse than they did. At the beginning of the night they had all the leverage in the world only to give that up by drafting Brown. Even IF they truly liked Brown, Im sure they could have traded down a few spots and stillgrabbed him, while picking up much more.
Don’t know why Deyonta Davis went so late. Pretty sad, but he’ll prove everyone wrong.
Didn’t like Dejounte Murray to the Spurs. Didnt think that fit was good but who knows, maybe they’ll groom him.
Surprised GPIII didnt get picked. I thought that he would. Hearing he’s going to the Rockets though.
Denver got lucky twice now in the past two drafts. Didnt think their picks would slip to them.
