I don’t see it as a good sign that Lebron James is not doing any recruiting for the Heat. Free agents hoping to win a title would be willing to sign in Miami if they had some reassurance that Lebron was coming back.  Luol Deng probably accepts 6 million if Lebron was doing the recruiting. Pau Gasol probably takes 6 million with Lebron doing the recruiting. No free agent takes less than market value to come to Miami without knowing if Lebron is coming back.

If Lebron is going elsewhere, they may still come but it would have to be the best offer out there. Durant and Westbrook are out there recruiting Pau and he seems to be considering there 5 million mid level exception. Same with New York and there 3.3 million mini offer. If Miami doesn’t sign somebody noteworthy this weekend, I would take that as a sign that Lebron is going to decide between the Mavs, Cavs or Suns next week and bring as many veteran minimum guys with him. (Allen, Anderson, Chalmers, possibly Boozer if he gets amnestied,R Lewis, Beasley,Vince Carter?)

If James leaves, perhaps Bosh gets max offer from Lakers and Heat are left with nothing and all the big names already signed elsewhere. That would be the most interesting roster turnover as they have Norris Cole and nobody else from last year signed.

I do think LeBron is hurting the HEAT because he hasn’t signed yet because a lot of free agents have already signed deals. I don’t think Deng or Gasol takes a 6 million dollar deal just because LeBron asks them too though. Gasol or Deng would be great fits but both of them can command more money than that. I saw someone tweet yesterday that Riley would ask Deng to take half as much  money as wade, but handle twice the work load and that seems pretty true. The HEAT can add one major piece, but all the good ones are going to be gone if they don’t hurry up.

One can also argue the converse. LeBron, Wade, and Bosh are all free agents, yet they aren’t criss-crossing the country taking meetings with other teams like Melo or Pau. It doesn’t mean they are staying, but I just don’t think there are tea leaves to be read.

Its par for the course with Lebron. He did the same shit with the Cavs and his short contracts.

LeBron is probably happy to relax and have a break right now. He has been going non-stop with basketball for awhile and is probably worn down. It is time for Riley to do the heavy lifting and bring people in. Most of the guys that are already being signed Miami could not afford or were not likely even targets. Miami isn’t likely to have much money if everyone resigns, even if they take smaller contracts. I wouldn’t rush to sign with Miami either if I wanted to win long term. The only guys that are likely going to take smaller deals are fringe NBA players, rookies and older guys and I’m not sure any of those are going to make improve Miami greatly.
