Alex Poythress won’t leave.  Aaron Harrison, who knows.  If he goes it’s really a testament to the ‘Kentucky Effect’ because he’s only played well a handful of games, but it was on the biggest stage possible.

poythress is probably going to stay, even though a big game tonight might change all that.

aaron harrison is probably gone.  i have him going to the heat in my mock, replacing ray allen.  i could see the spurs taking him too.  they’ll be losing most their team after next season and could develop harrison from the bench for a year.

Poythress second round to undrafted, Aaron Harrison 25-50 range. They played a few good games, Harrison has been huge late in games, but they still have lots of flaws. Honestly Aaron wasn’t that good against Wisconsin, except for that game winning shot. He and his brother had too many hero ball moments and they usually hijack Kentucky’s offense when they’re on the floor (when they’re off they play more for Randle in the low post and it’s usually more effective).

I don’t even see how Aaron can be really attractive for Nba teams, his skill set is not that developed right now, he’s a streaky shooter, without great ball handling skills nor the ability to create offense. But at the same time his physical tools are just average: he has average height for an Nba shooting guard (he does have a decent wingspan though) and he’s not going to blow anyone away with his athleticism, he’s not particularly quick nor he does have great leaping ability, so it’s not like he has huge upside. I’m not saying he’s a bad athlete, but he’s not that kind of freak athlete that intrigues teams even without great polish. At least his brother is more interesting because of his size for a point guard, even if he’s still far from being really able to run a team.

Yes, I totally agree with you. I don’t think either of them would be selected in the top 20 much less the first round in the draft. In the games in the tournament, they often get caught up dribbling the ball without purpose. Andrew’s handles are really average right now and he and Aaron’s shooting is really inconsistent.

In the game vs. Louisville, they jacked up a bunch of bad shots; even when Dakari Johnson or Randle have sealed and established excellent position at the post. And both those players, (Dakari and Randle) were the ones actually keeping them in the game. As compared to James Young, he readily gives up the ball to either Dakari or Randle when they have good position at the post. They are both selfish players and I think it is more of a knock against Andrew because he is one labeled as the point guard.

Wisconsin wasn’t even pretending to guard perimeter shots, they were going under every ball screen when Andrew was handling the ball and they were just worrying about packing the paint.

I don’t even think they’re selfish, it’s just the kind of basketball they’re used to play. Andrew was able to bull his way to the rim sometimes because he’s just too stronger than pretty much every Badger, but that resulted also in some bad, heavily contested attempts. Aaron wasn’t just able to beat his defender. Of course it’s not easy, against that kind of defense and with Kentucky’s spacing issues, but his off the bounce game looks pretty weak.

Imho everyone predicting Aaron as a lock for the first round or as a top 15/20 pick are overreacting.

Just remember an NCAA run isn’t always some sort of magic guarantee your stock is going up. Yes, sometimes it does, but what are your sources? Poythress has shown nothing but athletic ability, yet he’s getting praised as a prospect, while McAdoo is getting hammered for being nothing but an athlete.

NBA projection has a lot to do with what you’ll do at the next level. Sure, MKG got a huge boost in his stock, but it was more due to his NBA translatable skills. Just remember Teague went 29 and Lamb went in the 40’s last time UK won the title. A run helps some guys, and others, not so much.

I honestly think it has helped Aaron Harrison, but in my opinion, he’s in the 20-30 range, and as for Poythress…Scoring 8 points, solid D, a monster dunk on Frank Kaminsky and getting his head above the rim during a goal tending call doesn’t exactly scream NBA translatable skills…other than athletic ability, which everyone knows he had. I think Poythress still gets taken in the 40’s.

So, you think Alex Poythress’ 6.2 ppg and 3.6 rpg in the tournament has changed NBA GM’s opinions on him?

Im talking NBA translatable skills. Whether you want to admit it or not, Thomas had a much more translatable skillset to go along with his 40" vert and 7’3" wingspan. Guys with those traits, it helps, guys that aren’t great prospects still aren’t.

All I’m saying is that it’s not a blanket stock bump for any team that does well in the tourney.

If he( Aaron) goes in the first round after workouts, not top 15.  6’6" 220 combo guard that averaged 13.9 in his freshman year. He is averaging 16 on 50% shooting in the tourny.

Yes he is not super athletic which will keep him from being a high first round pick, but he has shown that he is not afraid of the big moment. Confidences goes a long way in basketball. I have watched him in highschool a lot growing up in Houston, TX. He is a different dude, never gets raddled. His twin Andrew is quite and sometimes lets pressure gets to him, Aaron dosn’t. He would be good on a team like the Spurs or Heat as a shooter and combo guard.

aaron definitely not a combo guard, strictly a SG.

andrew could work as a big combo guard in the NBA, which is why I think he’s the slightly better prospect.

So many bitter and basketball ignorant people. U guys do realize NBA teams don’t hate Cal and UK like y’all. They draft on potential, size, athleticism, winning, clutch gene…etc… Sorry. Hatas. No not really. Ha

Poythress needs to stay and develop his perimeter game, but if he went he’d be 2nd round at best. He’d likely get drafted solely because he plays for UK(but he is a freak athlete). Harrison, I could see going in the 25-30 range to a team where he isn’t relied on for production/contribution for a couple of years.

I think that both of them are second round prospects at this point. That being said, I would be happy to see my team(Sixers) take a flier on either one of them in the top half of fthe second round.

Poythress seems like a hustling athletic defender who could be a nice role player in the nba. Aaron Harrison might have a bit more upside than that. I think that they both are likely to have roles in the league.

Poythress would get 2nd round looks due to his freakish athletcism. he has no skills right now.

Aaron is a fringe 1st rounder. average athlete and shooting wasnt consistent enough.
