qDizzle32ParticipantI saw this coming, surprised it didn’t happen sooner. That’s part of what happens when you choose schools like Kentucky or Duke. With Winslow coming in and Suliamon, Jones and Ojeleye returning, it’s better to choose a program where you could get fair playing time and still play in a good level of competition.
The first time I watched Murphy play two summers ago at the China tour, I was really impressed with his game. He may lack of athleticism but Murphy is still a good scorer for the college level and could definitely contribute for another ranked program. May never be an NBA bound player but he’s still a great player who hasn’t had much time to prove himself. It’s rumored that he has interest in transferring to Florida where his brother Erik had a successful four years. Florida also has had success with landing other transfers. Murphy also considered Providence and Boston College in high school so don’t rule out those two schools.

Skeating12345ParticipantCan’t blame him. I still think he can be a very good college player. I wish him the best

Mr. ChicagoParticipantI am a huge Duke fan, but i couldn’t agree more. I was curious when he didn’t transfer over the summer. He was packed in on that bench. I liked his game, however.
But after looking into it, I am suprised he is transferring. He is a redshirt sophmore. Therefore, he will lose, any time he sits out. He can appeal, but who knows how that turns out. i wish him the best, and wish he could have gotten on a floor a bit more.
Here is an article about the transfer: https://www.dukechronicle.com/articles/2013/12/05/source-alex-murphy-transfer-duke

HandDownManDown13ParticipantAs a huge duke fan, I’m sad to see this happen. Murphy was a good player who could have been very productive if given minutes. He was compared to Kyle Singler in the type of impact he would have on the program.
Looks like just another player in a long line of transfer. All victims of Coach K’s maddeningly short rotations.

qDizzle32ParticipantHe was in a very similar situation to what Kyle Wiltjer was in at Kentucky. Great player, more of a four year guy than a one or two and done and chose to play at school’s that constantly get top prospects of all positions every year. There’s handfulls of SEC, ACC, Big Ten, Pac-12 or Big 12 schools that are ranked at times that they could have been Top 3 players for those teams. John Calipari even said, his program is not the place to go if you want to become the school’s all time leader and a four year starter. Duke always has upperclassmen who contribute, but at the same time they always get a number of McDonald’s All-American players annualy.

qDizzle32ParticipantTransfer waivers can always go both ways. It depends on who is playing the lawyer for the player’s eligibility. Isaac Hamilton lost both times he tried appealing to play this year of having to sit out after he chose UCLA after already signing his Nation Letter of Intent with UTEP. Dez Wells got to play immediately at Maryland after getting expelled from Xavier. Even though Josh Smith from Georgetown did play the very beginning of last season for UCLA, he got both a redshirt (for the year he left UCLA) and got to play immediately without sitting out the first semester of this season.

Professor RozayParticipantFlorida is where most people think he might go. But he should really make a sound choice. Go to a school that is going to use his talents and a place where he is going to get enough minutes to show what he can do on the floor.

SiggyParticipantBoston College is another option. His father went there and they were one of his finalists I think. He’d be guaranteed minutes there too.
Florida will have a few upperclassmen to replace but they have a really nice class coming in including Devin Robinson who’s a SF.

JoeWolf1Fred Hoiberg at ISU has built a top 25 program by nabbing a lot of high profile transfers. Might be a nice landing spot for a 6’9” stretch big man. He’d certainly have the green light from downtown as a Cyclone.

Moon RiverParticipantI was surprised when Michael Gbinije transferred to the Cuse from Duke. Maybe another one? Would love to see him and Cooney on the floor at the same time.

IknoBall12ParticipantI thought coach k would use him as a stretch 4 more. I mean he’s taller than Hairston(who absolutely sucks) and has scoring ability. Although in games he really struggled to find his shot
